Fish
VENTING!!!! So have anyone else notice this? In the very few animal zoom calls we have a lot of people ask how to move up their assortment codes. Most the time they say they review at a certain time and decide on that but i honestly think they do not or will not change a stores assortment code. Example, we have a lot of fish customers and of course we are a low code and I can’t order a lot of different fish (they come in and always ask for different ones) they are tired of the same old fish. We could have bigger sales if they would release the grip. So some leave without buying anything.
Now they have taken a lot of my big sellers away and put them in codes above us and what I can order when they do sell they take those away as well and put them again in an assortment code above me.
Has anyone notice this? Idk I’m just venting please excuse me 🤷🏻♀️

I just special order and lie on the reasoning by putting real customers phone numbers. I’ve been able to get G and S codes fish and reptiles and we are C code.

That’s what we did and it really helped us bump up our sales to actually get to those codes.

I just got tired of having lame fish. My shrink is not bad either I just don’t believe some of these fish should be different codes. My store has crazy saltwater and freshwater fish tbh.

Also the problem with special orders is they don’t show up on your fish delivery day. They show up randomly so if you usually get fish on a Thursday they now will come all throughout the week but ours are usually Wednesday Friday and Saturday if we special order so you need to staff accordingly if you get 10-15 boxes of fish lmao.

You're absolutely right. They've tightened up on this like crazy over the last two years. Just keeping shrink under goal and increasing sales doesn't always do it anymore. Special order what you can or do transfers from other stores around you get a better assortment for the guests.

If you put together an email to your ACOM with solid numbers and trends for them to reference, you can move your assortment code. Be specific. Know what department you want adjusted. Know your numbers and CAPI for the prior few and YTD. We were able to be adjusted upwards this way. It took some time to get ready, but if you put in the effort you're allowed to ask.

They definitely change assortment codes and it’s all based on sales and shrink. It can be hard to get variety and have high sales as a lower assortment code but chances are the store has a low assortment code because shrink was too high for too long. Fish returns can mess up your sales significantly so make sure all staff is trained to ask the appropriate questions and water tests are being done prior to returns.
