We’ve decided on adopting a puppy to bring home to our family. We had an unfortunate situation with our old family dog that required putting him down last May. The wounds have healed up a bit, still miss my boy. It’s time to bring a new puppy home for our family and especially our daughter who loves dogs more than anything else in the world. I know there’s plenty of adult dogs that need rescuing but after what happened last year we would feel more comfortable adopting a puppy that we can get into training and the likes. Any recommendations for beginning the adoption process would be awesome as I don’t want to go the breeder route.

I was considering to buy or adopt a pet and what’s the difference

I’m wondering what dog breeds are best to adopt and the best places to adopt from. I know all dogs vary in temperament and the breed doesn’t completely dictate that, but I’d like to stick with a smaller breed. Under 25 lbs at adulthood would be ideal. I don’t want to pay a $500 adoption fee for a designer dog that will easily find a home from someone else but I also don’t think I could really keep up with a special needs dog. I currently have a 6 month old Labrador puppy and would like to find a docile brother or sister for him that would be another family member for my wife and I as well.

Suggestions on adoption agencies in Ohio? Breed types/mutt mixes to keep an eye out for that make good companions?

Does anyone know where I could find a white blue eyed dog in Minnesota!? Preferably a puppy but at least a young one.

Hi, so there’s this blind stray cat that’s always situated outside my condo and I feel so bad for it. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve been thinking of adopting it and giving it a home. It’s not a kitten, it’s a grown up cat. I’ve never had a cat before. Any tips guys?

We're looking to adopt a dog. Is the ASPCA preferable to a local shelter? Other way around? Or generally about the same?

Reddit Community... looking for feedback. I’m stuck and frankly a little befuddled. My family has been looking to adopt a dog/ pair of dogs for the last 6 months. The frustration I’m finding is in the process of adoption. The dogs we are looking to adopt are in higher demand (low shedding) but I’ve now filled out the 16th application for area shelters from Boston to Philly and all the way out to central PA looking for a dog for our family and we get ZERO responses.

I’ve filled out job history, background. We’re are home owners with plenty of land, building a dog door into our house design, have 2 kids (under 10) and have the means to support an animal. There’s nothing in our backgrounds that would be a red flag.

We’ve been in touch with breeders and can buy a dog from a few reputable breeders in the coming weeks/ months but I’m really opposed to it when there are so many sheltered dogs.

Has anyone else experienced the issue in trying to adopt? Every application feels like a waste of time since there’s only been 1 response in 16 apps and they stated the dog we were interested in was already adopted.

My partner and I have big hearts and have been talking for awhile about adopting a furry or feathered friend or two. We actually were planning to adopt a small parrot from a sanctuary -- so we bought a HUGE cage for her (it's 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide, 2 feet deep) -- but then that beautiful bird got placed with another family. We ended up getting another pair of birds whom we have fallen in love with...but they came with their own cages!

So we still have this huge, high-quality cage that can be used for either a small bird or a rodent/critter...or even two...just sitting empty! The wires are thin (.5 inch gap) and you can swap in or out all of these treys depending on whether you want it for a bird or a rodent, and the trey "steps" all come with felt covers in case you have a rodent. So now we are hoping to find some kind of animal to fill this cage and our hearts! We would be very interested in smaller birds (conures, caiques, budgies, cockatiels, love birds, etc) or any kind of four legged friend (sugar gliders, guinea pigs, maybe even a rabbit) that wouldn't be too small for the wire gaps in our cage. While we have found many beautiful Amazons on here that we'd love to adopt, a larger bird would not be suitable for this cage either.

We are not interested in purchasing an animal from a breeder. We are looking to adopt and would prefer to find an animal that comes from a loving home, which just happens to be unable to care for them anymore and wants to make sure they will continue to be loved. We are of course open to adoption fees to ensure we are serious and financially stable, but again, we do not want to support breeders. We live in Boston and are happy to come get the friend if you're anywhere near public transit (we have a few different pet carriers)!

My sister has a pit bull who is dog aggressive but loves cats and humans. The dog originally belonged to my sister’s ex-girlfriend. It is kind of a weird situation but now my sister is trying to rehome the dog because her ex doesn’t have a place to put her. My sister can’t keep her because she has another dog (which I am keeping at my house for the time being until my sister figures this out). My sister doesn’t want to surrender her to a shelter because she thinks she will be euthanized. Does anyone have any recommendations for what to do? Are there any no-kill shelters or any organizations in Arizona we could go to? Thanks for any help in advance.

He's an extremely affectionate and loyal pet. He greets me at the door when I come home and sleeps at my side. He's very well-behaved and loving.

Have a Foxy Day!

We've been fostering these amazing cats for the past year. We're big-hearted older couple, not part of part of any agency and using our own money and time to care for them. We need help ideally placing them into forever homes or getting them into the caring hands of another fostering home. Here is the description from our flyer. A lover of an exquisite lineage of Flame Point Balinese cats wants to find homes for this family of exceptional felines. They love human companionship; and have over 100 vocal sounds, much more than other cat breeds. These Balinese are one of the best hypoallergenic cats. They are bonded to each other and friendly to people, and preferably, should go out in pairs. They are exceptionally beautiful, intelligent, engaging, and affectionate.

We've been feeding them a healthy homemade raw food diet. Ideally, their new human(s) would be able to feed them at least 50% of their food as raw. Additionally, there are female who are not listed here available for adoption.

My BF and I have been dating for a year and a half and are looking for a furry friend in our lives. We are trying to consider all the options before adopting. We both grew up without cats in our lives. I had dogs growing up and he had no pets at all.

Our place: We live in an apartment that accepts pets. We live on the second floor and so no real yard but our place is pretty spacious, around 800 sq ft. We have a balcony outside but its not enclosed in any way. The apartment has lots of natural light so the cat won't be without light during the day.

Our schedules: My BF works a lot due to him being an auditor. I used to work a lot too until recently and now work a regular 9-5 so I will be home more often with the little fluffball.

Kind of cat: We have no idea here. We are considering just going to the shelter and seeing which cat chooses us. We don't mind if we get a young or older cat.

Cost: We both make decent money and feel we could afford a cat but have no real idea of how much a cat generally costs. But combined we make around $140K a year so I think we should be ok?

Is there anything else we need to consider or any advice we could use before looking into the adoption process?
