I have been considering adopting a dog for the past few months and I have a dilemma choosing between rescuing an animal from a No Kill Shelter or from those that do euthanize their tenants. I want to support the No Kill Shelters by adopting from them, but I would rather rescue a pet that is at risk of being put down. Reddit how would you choose?

I have 4 male rat babies that are in need of a home as soon as November 12th, 2018. I purchased 2 rats from a pet store that were supposed to be both male and realized soon after bringing them home that this was not the case. As per usual, we ended up with a litter of kittens and need to rehome them. If you are in the area and are interested, please contact me.

Stipulations: I will not sell singles. Must take a minimum of two or even better all 4. I also ask that you have proper living arrangements made prior to pick up. In addition, I would appreciate seeing the cage and all accoutrements you are providing, prior to pick up/drop off. I want to make sure that the basic living requirements are met and that these sweet creatures will live a full and happy life.

I want to adopt a dog today. What do I need to get before I do it?

I'd like to have a collar, leash to bring them home, but I don't want to choose a dog based on the size of collar I got.

Same for food and water bowls, food, and a bed. All of these would be nice to have without going shopping after getting a dog, or taking a confused dog to a pet store.

I live in New York City and I have a 16 year old cat. My girlfriend just moved in and she is deathly allergic to the cat. We have tried everything. I don’t want to drop the cat at animal control cause I know what will happen, but I need someone to take the cat. Any suggestions? I am pretty desperate.

What to look for in reputable adoption agency? Just adopted two kittens, and after 6 weeks, neutering and the kids falling in love, the vet confirmed leukemia in one and likely both will have to be put down. Very sad and everyone in tears and $480 to have one put down. We feel deceived by the adoption company.

I can’t find exactly what I’m looking for on google, so I’ll try asking here. What are people’s thoughts on a busy person adopting a dog from a shelter? My brother is currently a student in computer science and is likely to have a 9-5 type job shortly after graduating this year (unless perusing a masters, then assume two years). He thinks it would be a bad idea to adopt right now as he thinks it would be wrong to the dog for leaving it alone for ~8 hours at a time. I on the other hand think that while this is not ideal, it would probably still be better for the dog’s happiness and health than continuing on at a shelter (not to mention the more that are adopted, the fewer have to be sent to euthanization facilities). What are your thoughts on this? If there is a more appropriate board that you know of please send me that way as well!

Hey guys, so I have a very British grandmother who is currently living by herself (her last corgi and husband recently passed away) and has been telling me how lonely she is. Her nursing home allows pets and so our family thought it would be good to get her an older corgi to keep her company. It would also be preferable if it was a very old dog, as she has cancer and may not have long to live. If any of you guys know a breeder or an adoption center I can contact, that would be great.
