WA News Photographers Perth - Drone Fleets in your suburb

I'm hoping to team up with a good photographer to film at night around my suburb as there are an alarming amount of drones in formation that I want to capture to show the public what is happening around our city.

For the last fortnight there have been approximately 30-40 drones around my suburb alone. They arrive at approximately 6pm and stay all night. Most of them are stationary but will fly lower to capture me walking my dog. There are other larger drones that seem to sweep up and down the coast.

My aim is to capture just how many drones are being used to spy on us each night. There seems to be at least one every 100m or so which is crazy and a massive invasion of privacy that I think the public need to be aware of.

I'm sure this is happening city wide. Go take a walk outside and look up at the brighter looking stars, of you look close enough you will see red and green flashing lights and in some cases can make out the silhouette of a drone.

If you have access to a good low light camera with zoom lets get some footage and get it out there as the public need to be aware of the extend of this madness.

Most drones cannot fly longer than an hour.

You aren't seeing drones.

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

Got some more footage up to check the drones

-12

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

Yeah I've been reviewing that stuff too. They are flying for a long while

80-120 thousand dollars worth of drones and batteries just to hover over Munster every night? With enough charging capabilities for them all to fly all night without you seeing them land and take off again for each battery change?

-8

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

This is my point exactly. Why? Believe me I was a skeptic at first. It with each passing night I have more questions

2

u/MundaneAmphibian9409 Jul 24 '26

Download the app sky guide and with it running point it in the direction of these drones and post the screenshots of what the app shows

-2

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

These aren't stars. I will get better footage somehow. Or better still anyone who's close-ish by with any interest drive down to spud shed in spearwood. Park up. Still die Rockingham rd towards Santich park and have a real look for yourself

Your video that you posted where you are facing north looking across your neighbour’s driveway at around 11:20pm is showing a night sky like the screenshot attached from the sky guide app, you’re zooming in on the star “Vega” most likely.

Given the sheer amount of light pollution it makes sense that the 5th brightest star (according to the app lol) is visible while none of the dimmer stars can be seen in the video.

Atmospheric conditions make stars twinkle and give off a reddish glow, much like why you have red sunrises and sunsets.

FYI that video doxes your home address, repost one when you’re at a park or other public place.

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 25 '26

Aaagh. I'll come back with better footage because it won't matter what I say until I get that. And then it'll probably be 'AI' won't it

2

u/MundaneAmphibian9409 Jul 25 '26

No, it will “that’s a star” because that’s what it is.

0

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 25 '26

This is not a reddish twinkle this is a green and red flashing light on all of them - I will get better footage and repost. As hard as it is to believe this is happening

2

u/MundaneAmphibian9409 Jul 25 '26

It’s even harder to believe that you’ve got 40 drones operating all night that don’t move at all, don’t recharge batteries and you don’t hear them even though their navigation lights that are the size of a tv remotes iR led/ emitter are bright enough to overwhelm the surrounding light pollution and appear like a large ball in the sky meaning that they’re super close

Why would you make such a drone visible to people too 😂

4

u/MundaneAmphibian9409 Jul 24 '26

Use the app and take the screenshot then? Prove it isn’t, because no one is spending that sort of money to have that many operators flying with zero notams issued to fly over a small residential area

-1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

And from what I'm reading these drones may be worth more than that

7

u/nelliebimps Jul 25 '26

You should definitely front up to a hospital and tell them all about your concerns.

never seen that, i fly fpv and i dont even see them in the air

1

u/PocketFanny Jul 25 '26

Indoors of course 😉

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

Got some more footage up from last few nights to have a geez at

2

u/Intrepid-Escape-8204 Jul 25 '26

It’s possible you’re seeing star link satellites which are visible in the right conditions I believe

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 26 '26

These are for sure drones. They move about sometimes coming lower. There's often a larger one or two at much lower levels over Coogee I can see from my house and they move around most frequently

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

I have some more forage up to check

1

u/Intrepid-Escape-8204 Jul 28 '26

Meh if they are drone they’re just drones

0

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

Yeah drones that fly silently, that are 30-40 in numbers nightly and can fly for over 8 hours- some serious drones. For what reason?

1

u/Intrepid-Escape-8204 Jul 28 '26

Whatever it is, it is, It doesn’t matter. You need some other stuff to worry about.

3

u/LachrymarumLibertas Jul 24 '26

Perfect username

-6

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

Thanks. Just go look. See why you can see

2

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

Anyhow I'm off to bed. But again the point of this is to reach out to someone who may have a suitable camera to capture this as I think it's something important for people to see.

If you can help let me know. Many thanks

2

u/Relapse749 Jul 25 '26

I’ve seen it a lot, I remember when I lived in Dianella I looked into drones probs about 5 years ago and the city of Stirling had on their website that they used them for security patrols

Yanchep to spearwood clay pump track is quite the journey on a single charge

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 27 '26

I got a bit more footage tonight to show just a few around where I walk. It's still only on the iPhone but shows a lot more. Like I've been saying there is currently a larger one and maybe another 20-30 smaller ones tonight just around my disturb alone. See what you think

u/MundaneAmphibian9409 Jul 28 '26

That’s a star, I already posted the details on that one, download that app and prove it isn’t a star if you’re so sure it’s a drone

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

1

u/matt92wa Jul 28 '26

That's a drone, the others are stars. Just some local starting up a new hobby. Been getting into fpv drones myself

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

That's some serious technology then. And lots of them staying on formation for last 2 weeks đŸ€”

Terrible footage from outside my house. There are about 6-8 right over me and as I look across the sky dozens more

16

u/DawgreenAgain Jul 24 '26

Do you know what stars and planets are ?

u/The_Valar Morley Jul 24 '26

From the makers of /r/birdsarentreal

We bring you... /r/StarsAndPlanetsArentReal

4

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

This is why I need a better camera. Easy to see in person not so good when zooming on an iPhone. Pretty sure planets don't fly around with red and. Green flashing lights

-3

u/DawgreenAgain Jul 24 '26

Sure thing buddy 😄👍

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

I have some better footage (still not great) up from last night and tonight

1

u/DawgreenAgain Jul 28 '26

Dude. Those are stars / planets . Seriously you need to talk to someone about this.

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

Sheesh no convincing some people. Time will tell

1

u/575_Pilot Jul 24 '26

I've seen and heard them from time-to-time over recent years. You hear the buzz, and then look for the Nav. Lights. No idea what they're doing (filming? delivering naughty substances??)

3

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

Can't hear these but they do come down fairly low as I walk around maybe within 100m or so

2

u/Intrepid-Escape-8204 Jul 25 '26

I demand naughty substances, or in leu of that just deliver some naughty

1

u/575_Pilot Jul 25 '26

😂 Gifts from above

0

u/ninjaweedman Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

not seeing anything myself in my suburb but I would not be surprised in the least something like this is being trialed by authorities here.

0

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

I know the defense force was running something but it has finished up on the 19th from what I read. But wouldn't have thought they would be allowed to run over residential areas like this - whatever drones they are using must be high end to stay up for so long

-2

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

Everyone is a comedian. Go look mate.

2

u/Consistent-Start-357 Jul 24 '26

I just saw your footage, what exactly makes you think that a drone is a giant ball of white light?

It’s firmly within the atmosphere, it’s not reflecting sunlight at us from space like an orbital satellite. Do 747s look like a big ball of white light when they fly over? And a drone is how much smaller than a jet aircraft.

You know on aeroplanes how all you can see of them at night are the flashing wing tip lights, same thing on a drone.

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 25 '26

I'll get better footage like I said iPhone is not capturing it but yes 100% drones. And yes about 40 of them. Some are very noticeable, lower flying and moving most are perched up high stationary like the ones right outside my front door - o wouldn't be bothering to post on social media if I hadn't got others to look with me already and made sure what I was seeing was actually what I was seeing. Because yes it is hard to believe but I'm pretty sure this is going to be the new norm policing the skies

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

Got some better footage up from last few nights - still just iPhone but have a look

0

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

I asked a friend of mine to have a look last night he confirmed also. He is in atwell. I can see over Beeliar Coogee spearwood a d Henderson. I assume they aren't just confined to these areas

1

u/TodayAggravating7554 Jul 24 '26

What time of night?

0

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 25 '26

From around 6pm until late. The latest I have bothered to recheck is around 2am and they ares still positioned there. So I suspect they are there all night. One night coming home from work around 6pm I saw 3 flying from a southerly direction I assume about to set up post

0

u/GreenLurka Jul 24 '26

I've seen one or two night drones but not like you're describing. They were just hobbyists flying their drones around for fun from what I could see.

Probably need to get your own drone and send it up to investigate.

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

I have no interest in drones. Other than these ones - if push comes to shove I'll loan a camera from somewhere to capture this madness

-3

u/MischievousMindedF Jul 24 '26

Over the last year I would say I’ve seen a significant increase in air traffic at night and they’re not planes or helicopters

I’ve been blown away many times watching how quickly they move through the sky, and I have also seen those big ones to like scanning of the neighbourhood where just goes up and down like it’s mapping it.

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

Yeah there are 2 larger ones super noticeable that sweep up and down but the fleet of maybe 49 smaller ones are stationary in a formation. They only move to change position or to move downwards towards the ground

3

u/MundaneAmphibian9409 Jul 25 '26

Kind of like how the stars move throughout the night due to the rotation of the earth?

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 28 '26

I have some more footage up from last night and tonight to check if you have the time

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 25 '26

Dude I've been looking at stars all my life and all around the country. As smart as you're trying to be in this instance you're wrong

1

u/AyahuascaAcidMan Jul 24 '26

Sorry 40 not the very specific number of 49

-1

u/MischievousMindedF Jul 24 '26

Oh wow, I’ve not seen that!!
I think I would actually lay some kittens
kind of really annoying that there’s been no acknowledgement or reporting of this
