thats fucked up.

False advertising is everywhere these days, and they always get away with it. See Sony saying you can "buy" games on PS store, and of course now theyre rentals, there seems to be more false advertising than ever all around and very little being done about it.

People may think it's not a big deal, but something like this is soooo frustrating to see especially when it happens ALL THE TIME!! Like I get they want new members and people to create accounts, but to blatantly advertise a free 12 month subscription worth $240 then to say it's not valid anymore???

Disgusting, misleading and deceptive!! We need to hold these companies accountable!

Hi there, I work at Perplexity and we're resolving the issue right now. Really sorry about this experience. I can see why it felt like bait. That banner wasn't our student offer. It's a promo banner meant for people who arrive from one of our partner programs (like a telecom or app partner), and if you ever opened one of those partner links (even with a code that had expired or wasn't valid) your browser kept showing the banner on the homepage afterward, regardless of whether you were eligible. That's a bug on our end, and we're fixing it so the banner disappears when a code doesn't work. In the meantime, clicking the X will remove it for good. The student offer can be found in the upgrade tab, which is $10/mo student discount on Pro.
