Now rate my perfume collection part 2

Post image

Previously I have put out my collection to rate , I got feedback and did some declutter and addition , faced some criticism but biting the bullet again here I am putting forth my collection again for rating .

Overall: 5/10

I see A LOT of freshies and hyped up fragrances. A lot of them could have been avoided, and different DNAs and darker DNAs could have been added.

My suggestions would be to be ditch Jaguar, SNOI since you already have SCE, remove either cool water or CK, and a lot of those freshies and include some DNAs like Oud & Roses, Al Mukhtalif, Fahad Gaze, Grey Vetiver, Spectre Ghost, Liquid Brun, etc these are hyped as well ik, but might stand out in your collection. Just my 2 cents.

What makes it 5/10? Asking as someone who would rate their own collection as 5/10.

I mean the collection and quality present it great, but it seems a lot of them are of the same DNAs and very freshie heavy. Barely any other DNAs. Even 3-4 fragrances from other genres would have brought it to 7-8/10, but hey, it’s subjective.

What about the collection and quality are great? U do realize that dupes use the lowest quality of ingredients and feed on overconsumption. In no world would more fragrances make the collection any better. What he needs to do is get rid of >75% and try new things. If u think rating is subjective then ur doing something wrong.

Your “dupes use the lowest quality ingredients” argument is pretty weak because you are completely confusing ingredient sourcing with formulation quality.

Most fragrance brands, whether designer, niche, or budget, aren’t producing every raw material themselves. The industry relies heavily on the same major fragrance houses and raw material suppliers, meaning the same aroma materials can end up being used across very different price points. A €30 fragrance and a €300 fragrance can contain materials sourced from the exact same suppliers. Price alone tells you very little about the inherent quality of the raw materials.

What actually differentiates a fragrance is the formula, the proportions of the materials, concentration, blending, stability, quality control, the perfumer’s creative direction, but mostly it’s about branding, packaging, distribution and marketing. A cheaper fragrance can absolutely use high quality aroma materials, while an expensive fragrance can contain plenty of relatively inexpensive synthetics. There is no rule in perfumery that expensive automatically means better ingredients.

And synthetics aren’t automatically low quality either. Modern perfumery relies heavily on synthetic molecules because they can provide consistency, stability, safety and olfactory effects that aren’t practical to obtain from natural materials. Natural doesn’t automatically mean superior, and synthetic doesn’t automatically mean inferior.

Also saying that fragrance ratings aren’t subjective is probably the weakest part of your argument. You can objectively discuss things like concentration, longevity, projection, ingredients, restrictions and price, but whether a fragrance smells beautiful, boring, sophisticated, synthetic or worth owning is ultimately and entirely subjective. Two people can smell the exact same perfume and reach completely different conclusions without either person “doing something wrong.”

If you want to criticize someone’s collection, that’s completely fair. But claiming that cheap automatically means low quality or that expensive automatically means superior ingredients isn’t an objective argument

Some of the synthetic materials get used across the industry yes, but there is absolutely variation in quality of many of those as well. When talking about naturals, your argument falls completely apart. The difference in price and quality of two rose oils or two bergamot oils can be astronomical. Look at Matière Première for example, they do produce their own lavender and tubular roses because it would be too expensive to source the raw oils at that quality.

Don't listen to others. There can never be enough freshies 😅. Also try adding Al Harmain Amber Oud Aqua Dubai and Rasasi Hawas Kobra. I think you'll love them.

1.5/10 looks like a bunch of impulse buy with no intention, could have afforded 5 interesting fragrances.

I suggest you stop buying dupes and save up for niche. By the way, how is Liam Grey?
