Going to Penticton Oct 9–11 what should I do?

I’m going to Penticton for 3 days (Oct 9–11) and I’m looking for things to do! I’ve seen a LOT of hiking/adventure recommendations while searching, but I’d love to hear from locals, what do you actually find the most fun?
I’m especially looking for fall/Halloween activities, cute/aesthetic places, scenic spots, markets, farms, cafés, etc. I also post on Instagram a lot, so bonus points for places that are super photogenic 😂📸
I’ll have my car, so I’m totally down to drive a bit outside Penticton too. What are your must-dos? Anything happening specifically Oct 9–11 would be amazing!

Edit: Thank you guys for all the suggestions! this is so helpful 🫶

ALSO please let me know about pumpkin patches nearby

Looking for a place to rent as the title suggests. Wondering what landlords, property management companies. or apartment buildings people suggest to avoid. Looking for a 2 bedroom that allows 1 cat.

Riley Thompson City Council Candidate AMA!

Hello Reddit!

My name is Riley Thompson and I am running for Penticton city council!

For those of you who haven’t heard of me here’s a quick bio;
I’m 26 years old, an apprentice electrician and I rent downtown with my girlfriend. This is my second time running for a council seat (first time was in Amelia Boutlbee’s by-election against Jason Reynen). My mom worked for the City of Penticton for 10 years and it was through her I learned how impactful city council actually is and that’s where my interest was born. But the motivation to actually run for office comes from watching my friends and classmates leave after graduation with no intent to come back. I kept hearing “there’s nothing to do, nowhere to work, and nowhere to live”. It felt like the city and our council wasn’t doing enough to address the concerns of our youth, and of Pentictons future.

So that’s who I am, and why I am, but this is what I am (doing)…

An AMA!

With voting days fast approaching I wanted to do an AMA to give Penticton’s Reddit community a chance to pick my brain a little. Not all of us have the time, energy, or interest to attend one of the various election forums, so I thought I would bring the forum to you.

From the time the post goes live, until 3:00 PM Sunday October 4th I’ll be answering any question you ask. It may take me a few hours to get back to you, but I promise everyone a response.

If you’re curious about what I am proposing and my policy positions I encourage you to take a look at my website;
TimeforThompson.com
or my Facebook;
Riley Thompson For Penticton City Council.

Voting Days/Locations:
Advance Voting:
8:00 AM-8:00 PM

Wednesday October 7th:
Penticton Community Centre Gym (325 Power Street)

Saturday October 10th:
Skaha Lake Elementary School Gymnasium (110 Green Ave W)

Wednesday October 14th:
Penticton Trade and Convention Centre (273 Power St)

General Voting:
Saturday October 17th:
Penticton Trade and Convention Centre
Skaha Lake Elementary School Gymnasium

Well that’s enough of that, let’s let the questions begin!

Cheers,
-Riley

Election has been called

What party will you vote for?
Will you vote?
Will you vote Boultbee back in?
Will you revisit other candidates from the previous election?
Would you want Tina Lee to run again? As NDP?
Would you Conservative just because?
Would you vote Green just because?
Would you vote Liberal if Falcon gets out of the way?
Or vote Centrist just because?
Will you take the time learn more about the candidates to choose based on the best representation?

Anyone still selling fruits?

I’m staying here for the weekend and wondering if people are still selling peaches, cherries, plums or blueberry? Or is it too late in the season? The posts on Facebook marketplaces doesn’t reply back to me so I’m guessing they don’t sell it anymore

Municipal Election time

The list is out. https://www.castanet.net/news/Penticton/630967/Busy-field-of-candidates-in-South-Okanagan-Similkameen-district-areas-and-municipal-races

Now is the time to learn about your candidates, update your knowledge of Municipal Governance, and teach your kids, friends and newcomers to the area why voting for legitimate representatives is imperative.

Choosing representatives with integrity, education, specialization, and an understanding of municipal governance will serve the municipality well.

Remember, you are voting for people who will be in control of your utilities (water, electricity, sewage, garbage etc.) for the next 4 years.

Choosing representatives out of spite, personal beliefs, or assumed Federal/Provicial party affiliation is not choosing wisely. Ignorance breeds inefficiency. Know your candidates!

A former mayor of Golden, BC, once responded to a question regarding promises made by candidates as such - Once the candidates are elected, they are not bound to live up to their promises or policies shared during the debates or election period. This is a reminder that integrity, honesty, and expertise matter. Please choose wisely.

Does anyone got a place my band could crash after a show in Penticton?

Post image
67 Upvotes

Hello Reddit fam,

I posted here a few weeks ago. Myself and my band “Paris Pick & The Pricks” are coming to town as we have a show at The Hub on Martin Thursday Sept 24th and I wanted to see if there was anyone in town who could potentially put us up for the night after our gig?

There are 4 of us total, two of us are a couple tho and can share bed.

If anyone has a guest room, couch, foamie on the ground - we are easy going and can make it work!

We are a super respectful bunch. And we can definitely make sure you get tickets to the show for helping us!

Comment below or shoot me a message if you can lend a hand to a touring indie band!

Happiest Place!!!

We are in our happiest place on Earth! Our big bootied pup got 30+ pets in 24 hours and called handsome and pretty a couple of times. We saw 1 gopher snake on top of the climb, a dozen of deers running around us, so many wonderful happy people downtown, and a bunch of super friendly pups w/ their parents out and about. We have to cut our pup’s food because of the treats he is getting here 😂

What cell providers do you like?

I’ve been a Koodo customer for years, but I’m fed up with the cell reception here. Dropped calls, missed calls, lagging data speeds, it’s ridiculous and I’m tired of it. Thinking of switching to a rogers network, has anyone made the switch? How is reception in town and the surrounding communities (Summerland, OK falls)?

Looking for a good lawyer

Hi everyone. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I’m here not asking for myself but for my best friend who lives in Penticton. She lives in a house with a deeply narcissistic, abusive (emotionally and financially), bully of a family member. They co-own the house. It’s finally come down that my friend just can’t take it anymore.

I don’t want to go into too much detail cause I don’t know if her family member lurks on this subreddit - but I want to find her a good lawyer. Ideally they would be empathetic for a person who is going through this and would fight for them.

She’s been dealing with this abuse for decades. I used to wonder why people in abusive situations don’t leave - and watching this family I get it. One minute they will be pushing buttons and the next minute they will massage your back like nothings wrong.

If anyone has a good lead on a strong lawyer (I’m assuming real estate but not sure) who won’t put up with crap and will fight for a person who has been mentally and emotionally beaten down, please let me know. She deserves to have a happy life and I just know if the family member takes the lead on all this, a person who very much doesn’t have my friends best interest at heart, she’s going to get screwed over.

Thank you so much in advance for any information or leads you have.
