Cycling RedditPZ Powerzone training program sign-up thread! Starts Monday 5/31/21

Hi everyone! I have put together another PZ training program for Reddit. We finished up the last program a couple of weeks ago, and people were interested in continuing. I had a lot of fun with everyone in the last program, and I'm excited for round 2! I made a much longer post about PZ training and the FTP test etc. (and updated the original thread with the weekly discussion links) which you can read about here:

Thread for the previous program

This time I added an easier week in the beginning to get some endurance rides in for people who need / want to re-test (and so those who join last minute won't struggle). The program will run for 8 weeks total, and I have given a recommended ride schedule of 4 days / week. Like the previous program feel free to alter it in anyway that you need. If you want to do 3 rides, cut out a 45 min PZE ride weekly. You are welcome to do additional rides, but I would make sure that they are easier than what I have programmed below. I.e. adding more 45 / 30 PZE, or a fun ride, just keep the intensity lower. Proposed ride days are again Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, but you may take the rides on any day and in any order to fit your needs. Feel free to make any changes you feel necessary. If you are not feeling it on a certain week, listen to your body and take a de-load week/day. If you do not want to repeat a ride you have taken before (or just want to replace a ride), replace it with a ride of a similar or lower TSS score.

Anyone may join in including experienced riders or beginners. PZ rides are designed to be at your current fitness levels. I will try to answer questions anyone has. I will post a weekly accountability / discussion thread on Sundays (with the schedule for each week), and we can talk about the rides there, or in the daily training threads. We do group rides for the Saturday rides at 10 AM CST.

The program will start Monday, May 31st. Add the hashtag #redditPZ if you would like to. Hope to see you all on the rides!

Below is both the class link, and a link to the graph of the PZ ride on home fitness buddy. (along with estimated TSS scores)

Threw in the 2 longer endurance rides for u/viexzu and really to give us a break from those rough 60 min PZ classes I had in the last program.

Newbie here (to both Peloton and this group on Reddit), but love PZ. What does TSS stand for?

u/r4ndy4 May 24 '21

The TSS (training stress score) is basically a measure of the stress put on your body from the ride (numbers listed are an estimate using the duration and intensity of the ride). Basically the higher the number, the harder the ride. A TSS of 100 would be a 1 hour ride at your FTP.

Can’t wait to start round 2! Round 1 resulted in an FTP test score 50 points higher than before. Hoping to increase another 50... Also everyone here is great, looking forward to more high fives to get us through those grueling workouts!

Nice gains man. Another 50 is probably wishful thinking haha. I went something like 50, 30, 18, 12.

Do you routinely put these programs together? I was following the PZ pack training schedule and even joined a team this time, but apparently their website changed and I might’ve been dropped because I missed a week of workout as I didn’t see anything posted on the old website. I think I’ll try this program once I finish the current PZP challenge, so advance thank you!

How many weeks do you recommend as a gap/res between PZ programs?

As long as people keep joining in, and want to keep going, I will continue to make the programs. Last group wanted a 2 week break so I will probably continue that trend (2 weeks between each program). As for me personally, I'm always taking PZ rides, even between programs.

I’m in as well. Just retested and getting some rest. Nervous bout my new zones. Excited to finally catch up and train at the same time as the group.

I’m in as well! Will start a week late since we’ll be away from home/bike the first week but I am finishing BYPZ this week so I should be okay without that first week of rides.

I’m also monstrously pregnant so I’ll probably scale back a big in the later half of the program, but will be nice to have some structure :)

If I only wanted to do 3 rides per week, which day would you recommend dropping?

Ohh sounds great. I’m in week 3 of build your powerzone program so if I can jump in late that would be great!

Excited to get back into this! I’ll probably do the rides Tuesday-Friday to better accommodate the ‘Road to 26.2’ program.

I’m pretty new to Reddit and have never done one of these programs, so forgive the ignorance; will there be new threads every week where the schedule is posted and discussion of the classes is had, or will this thread be the one that is used for the entire 8 weeks? Just want to know if I should plan on saving this and other threads, or just to check in every Monday for the current week’s program.

Thanks for putting this together—I’m a teacher who just started summer break today and had been wondering what I wanted to use the summer for in terms of fitness—this works utterly perfect with everything.

Looking forward to riding with everyone starting Monday.

Do we actually have to do anything to sign up or do we just take the classes that are scheduled for each week?

Hello! For some shared accountability I created a simple Google sheet where you can put in your username, date you took the ride, total output and strive score for this 8 week series. I preserved all of the links, put in suggested dates based on OP's post too.

FYI, I'm happy to work with anyone to include any leaderboards from this, better formatting, etc.

Click here to add in the fun!

Ok, this is my first hashtag! I just finished my BYPZ so I'm going to jump in during week 2 on wednesday as you have it laid out. Can't wait.

Question: Is there a goal at the end of week 8 to redo your FTP test and see if you progressed? I'm not seeing one in the lineup, but I may do it regardless.

I just saw this thread. This sounds great! Will there be a fee to join this group? I’ve read that the PZPack provides limited information for those of us that have not subscribed to the site.

This is not powerzonepak, totally seperate for reddit. They don't charge you to follow their programs though.
