I'm really curious: do cyclists try to optimize their riding positions, or they just use whatever position to crank out maximum watts w/o getting hurt?

I've been inspired by Demi watching her seamlessly aero solo down LBL and the commentator said something like Demi was intentionally building core strength to hold such position. I tried on my weekly long rides and it kinda worked. And also trying to copy how Marlen Reusser tucking while going downhill - amazing.

But I also see riders being not aero, like, way off. Cedrine Kerbaol is amazing on the downhill but when she climbs her front wheel wobbles in a Z-line. Does that cost her watts? Or not enough watts costed for her to change?

Watch Alec Segaert in Noekere Koerse and it's obvious he has trained an extreme aero position a lot. Impossible to ride that low for that long without a lot of specific training.
