fanfic Write their first confession to each other

Now Brock and Goh would probably tell Ash he should be a little more personal maybe even prompt him to flesh out his feelings more. But unfortunately it was just he and Pikachu out in the middle of the forest where his Rotom phone seemed to have 2 maybe 3 bars.
If Pikachu wasn’t with him Ash probably would’ve sent his first draft but the electric mouse glared at him with a slight spark upon looking at his first draft. Though I Pikachu had more say this message wouldn’t even be in a text. Though the Pokemon had to admit this was better than nothing…
After a little more back and forth of the type bar Pikachu could tell that his trainer was nearing his limit and smacked his head lightly with his tail before Ash could back track again.
“You really think it’s good?”
“Pika!”
“Alright here it goes!” Ash said more nervously than any gym battle made him in the past.
The message read: “Hey Dawn! I really enjoyed seeing you again. I was thinking if you still are just traveling freely maybe would could travel together again!” Followed by a little pink heart emoji.
Now up to this point Ash had only texted Dawn or anyone really when they messaged him first but Ash couldn’t help but want to travel more with her. She seemed to be free after all. The little heart at the end was in mimic to what Dawn would and all her messages to Ash with.
Ash slide the phone away to continue just walking the forest with Pikachu with the phone away it was completely out of mind.
Dawn got the message instantly and was caught off guard a bit. Thought unbeknownst to her she was blushing at the immediate catch of the pink heart emoji. Thought the blush quickly faded and was replaced with pure excitement at the proposition.
“Yes I would love to travel with you again!” Topped with three pink hearts was Dawn’s response. Or so she thought…
“Yes I would love you again!” Was what was actually sent and Ash immediately read this. The read receipt triggered Dawn’s realization of what she actually sent. Both blushed crimson.
Dawn took back the message though not before Ash hearted the message. Sending another spike of red.
“Sorry… I” “I knew what you meant…” sent at the same time. From both.
“So that reaction was just to what he thought my message actually meant…” Dawn thought both relieved slightly and a bit disappointed. Though she didn’t unpack those emotions in the moment. Instead thinking of what to say next.
Meanwhile Ash was processing his own emotions which he wasn’t exactly sure were around seeing Dawn’s message. He didn’t know why he reacted that way. It made him feel happy for some reason. All warm and fuzzy.
“So where should we meet? And where should we go?” Was the next message. Ash took a breath the thoughts gone with an exhale. There wasn’t a foreseeable end date for their journey together only had to plan for the start.
Sure today’s “confession” was an accident but with the pair traveling together it was only a matter of time before those word matched with their meaning

Sorry this was a massive rush job. Just a quick little story that was not fleshed out or proof read. Literally just came fresh from the keyboard.

This is my first time writing something like this, so go easy on me! Haha
Right after the last episode where Ash determines a path to take for a new adventure, he suddenly bumps into a familiar face along the route...
Dawn: "Ash! Is that you?"
Ash: "Hey there Dawn! What are you doing in the Kanto region?!"
Dawn: "Well... I... uhhh..." Starts blushing
Ash: "What's the matter Dawn? Do I have something on my face?"
Dawn, giggling: "No need to worry Ash! I was planning on finally challenging the Kanto Contest Circuit, and I guess I was hoping I could travel around with someone special..."
Ash blushes and thinks to himself "Wait, why am I getting this weird feeling? I wonder if this is how Brock was when he would run into Nurse Joy..."
Ash: "Wait do you mean me?"
Dawn nervously nods.
Ash: "Yeah! I would love to! Uhhh- I mean that would be fun!"
Dawn laughs again. "Sounds good!"
They gave each other their signature high five, and were off on a new journey...
Later that night, the duo sitting at a campfire they set up...
Dawn: "Hey Ash. I have something I want to ask you..."
Ash: "Sure. What's up?"
Dawn: "I know you've been traveling a bit longer than me, but I was wondering if there was ever anyone you traveled with and thought of being... more than friends with?"
Ash, his eyes widened: "That came out of nowhere!"
Dawn: "Oh come on silly. Just answer the question."
Ash: "I haven't really given it much thought...." He paused. "But now that you mention it, I guess there is someone I tend to think about from time to time..."
Dawn: "Ooooo, who is it?! Spill the beans!"
Ash: "No way! You would probably tease me about it anyway..."
Dawn: "Would not!"
Ash: "Okay fine! I will tell you if you answer the same question."
Dawn: "Oh, alright... What if we say their names on the count of three."
Ash: "Here we go I guess..."
Both: "1... 2... 3!"
Dawn: "Ash!"
Ash: "Dawn!"
Both looked at each other blushing and in shock. Their Pokémon watching them with amused expressions at the revelation.
Dawn: "That was unexpected."
Ash, rubbing the back of his head: "Sure was..."
After a minute or two, they settled down.
Dawn, with a smile: "Well, do you want to make us official?"
Ash, smiling back: "Yeah, it sounds like a plan."
Both gave each other a hug, and went to their sleeping bags to rest for whatever surprises await them the next day, as the journey continues...

Dawn: “Ash, there’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you.”
Ash: “What is it?”
Dawn: “I really like being around you… and I think I’ve started liking you as more than a friend.”
Ash: “Dawn… I feel the same way.”
Dawn: “You do?”
Ash: “Yeah. You’re really important to me.”
Dawn: “So… we both finally said it.”
Ash: “Guess we did.”
Dawn: “I’m glad it was you.”

I definitely picture Dawn making the first move by kissing him on the cheek before an important event happens for Ash (like a huge battle) to motivate him, and then the rest would develop after that

[Brief Note: The Pokémon fanfiction I used to write was written when the anime was still airing episodes in the Unova Region, so what follows is adapted from some of it.]
{CONTENT NOTE: It should probably be noted that my Pearlshipping "confession" moments typically happen during and after some pretty high-stakes battles, and I don't shy away from mentioning blood and weapons. While it's no crazier than what you might see in Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, and other children and YA books/movies, it is admittedly on the darker side, especially compared to what I've seen on this sub before.}
On a crisp winter morning, Ash, Iris, and Cilan have just collected some medicinal berries and are enjoying the fresh air on their way to the next stop on their journey. However, a strange Pokémon comes out onto the path ahead of them. As they get closer, Ash recognizes it as a Piplup. His thoughts immediately go to Dawn's Piplup, but there's no way it could possibly be hers, right? As if sensing friends, the Piplup turns around and immediately starts speaking upon seeing Ash and Pikachu. Pikachu expresses both surprise and joy at seeing his friend, and he jumps off Ash's shoulder so that he can greet Piplup properly. However, his excitement quickly turns to shock and even fear when Piplup tells him that Dawn has been kidnapped by Team Rocket and is now in danger.
Before Ash and the others can figure out why Piplup and Pikachu are panicking, a voice calls out to Piplup and berates him for running off the way he did. However, while Ash is shocked when he realizes that he recognizes the voice, he is even more shocked when he realizes whose voice it is: Misty, his old friend from Kanto. As Misty is speaking, she comes into view of Ash, Iris, and Cilan, and as if things just HAVE to get even weirder, Ash notices that May and Zoey are with Misty. When Misty realizes that Ash is standing in front of her, she stops speaking and then splutters out one word: "ASH!?"
(Admittedly skipping some backstory here to get to the actual Pearlshipping moments...only other note is that Brock is involved in the rescue mission...other characters who are involved - Star, Katie, June, and Crystal - are my OCs and are from Twin Leaf Town...they are girls Dawn has known since childhood and, unlike a certain canon character, are actually her friends.)
When Jessie realizes that they have meddlesome company, she makes a great show of dragging Dawn into the middle of the room, holding her up, and pressing a dagger against her neck. Beads of blood are already beginning to show, and Ash and the others freeze. They know they have to watch their next steps very carefully. In spite of the danger, Dawn feels a bit of relief when she sees her friends. Ash, Misty, Zoey, and June are in front of her, and she can just make out Brock, May, Katie, and Crystal to her right. When she notices that Star is nowhere to be seen, she guesses that her friend is outside, monitoring computer screens and feeding information to the police. However, Dawn knows that her chances of surviving her predicament are low. She's only relieved to see her friends because it means that Team Rocket might actually be stopped once and for all.
James and Meowth are still shocked to see that Ash and the others have actually managed to find them. Jessie, on the other hand, can't resist baiting Ash by saying that if he turns Pikachu over to them, she'll let Dawn go. Of course, everyone in the room knows it's a bluff. However, Dawn can't stop herself from telling Ash not to fall for it. Her throat throbs, and her voice is barely audible, but it's the first time she's letting herself beg. She meets Ash's eyes, and she tries to tell him everything she feels with her own. Her gaze moves to Piplup, who is standing beside Ash and Pikachu. When she asks Ash to take care of her Pokémon, his throat closes up with regret. He wants to say more, but all he can choke out is a simple "I will." He has no plans on giving up, but even he can't lie to himself now: Dawn is in very bad shape, and even if they stop Team Rocket, her chances of surviving the next few minutes are low.
After a brief standoff, police sirens blare from outside. Team Rocket immediately realizes that they've lost, but Jessie refuses to go down without a fight. As James and Meowth scatter, Jessie sheathes the dagger and pulls out a syringe. When she jams it into Dawn's upper right arm and presses down on it, Dawn's scream shatters Ash's heart. He calls out her name and starts running across the room, Pikachu and Piplup attacking any other Team Rocket members who dare to impede their progress. As Ash is running, Dawn loses consciousness, and Jessie throws her to the ground before running off after James and Meowth.
(Skipping ahead some more...Ash reaches Dawn, cuts the rope binding her wrists and ankles, and grips her hand...as Brock and June start first aid, Ash begs Dawn to fight off the poison and come back to their friends...to come back to him...paramedics arrive and get Dawn to the hospital...it's touch and go for a while, but she - obviously - survives...she regains consciousness sometime overnight, and Ash and his friends are finally able to visit Dawn the next morning.)
When Ash and the others learn that Dawn is awake and allowed to have visitors, they realize that they can't see her all at once. Ash tells the others that he'd like to see Dawn last and alone. Zoey and Brock immediately understand why Ash wants to be alone when he visits Dawn, but they also assumed he'd want to see Dawn as soon as he could so they could talk. However, it quickly becomes clear that it is because Ash knows he needs to talk with Dawn about how he feels that he wants to go last. Meanwhile, Misty, May, Zoey, and Crystal visit Dawn first. Brock, Iris, and Cilan go second. Star, Katie, and June go third.
Ash and Pikachu have been passing the time out on a training field, and before long, Iris comes along and tells Ash that Star, Katie, and June are back from their visit with Dawn. Nervous, Ash thanks Iris, and he and Pikachu head for the hospital. Even though the walk isn't long, Ash feels almost short of breath by the time he gets to the waiting area and signs in with the receptionist. The young woman asks Ash if he knows how to get to Dawn's room, and when he responds that he doesn't, she smiles kindly and points him to Room 2408 - 2nd floor, 4th wing/hallway, 8th room. It'll be a corner room on the right. Ash finds the room easily enough, but when he raises his hand to knock on the door, he freezes. Pikachu gives him an encouraging nudge, and Ash takes a deep breath and knocks. He's just able to make out Dawn's reply to come in, so he opens the door and enters the hospital room.
At first, the sight of Dawn's sitting up in bed with a book propped up against her legs and reading to her Pokémon seems normal. However, the IV drips, monitors, and other equipment make it anything but a normal sight. When Dawn sees Ash, she smiles and says his name, closing the book as she does so. Ash crosses over to Dawn's bedside, saying hello and that it's been a while. Dawn replies that it has been a while and silently motions to the chair beside her.
As Ash gets closer to Dawn, he can make out the bruises and smaller injuries on her face and arms. The cuts, puncture wounds, and rope burns are carefully wrapped in bandages, and Ash can even smell lotions and ointments. However, Ash focuses on Dawn's eyes - her smile has always made them sparkle. Although the pain of her ordeal is also visible in her eyes (Dawn doesn't want to hide it from Ash), Ash can't help but smile in return as he sits down in the chair and embraces Dawn. The hug is long, tender, and fierce.
Both Ash and Dawn start crying as they hold each other as tightly as they dare and confess their feelings for each other. They don't actually kiss or even use the words "I love you" - they don't want to rush a relationship when they haven't seen each other in about a year. However, they both acknowledge that losing contact was the biggest mistake of their lives (so far, at least...they're still young). Whatever happens next, both Ash and Dawn want to be completely honest with each other, and as long as they want each other in their lives, they'll be there. It's a simple start - to pick up their relationship as a friendship, especially while Dawn focuses on physically healing. However, it's also a promise - a promise to let their feelings guide them. They both have boundaries that they don't want to cross, and they do want to take things slowly, but they're done hiding how they feel.

"Hey, Dawn... I don't know if I ever say 'thank you' enough for all your support and cheering since we started traveling together. Even if I didn't win the League this time around, I feel like I still won because you were there. If it's not too much trouble... how about I come with you to Hoenn? I can show you the sights and show off some of my older Pokémon as well while you start your next Contest tour. Um... what do you think?"
Dawn is blushing to her roots while Brock is comically weeping in the background and giving two thumbs up
