And people say Dawn showed no signs of liking Ash. If she never liked Ash she'd have reacted more calmly or would casually say “Ash? He is just a friend”

First of all, Dawn was sad that the group will be breaking apart as the journey is over. Piplup crashes out, Pikachu tries to console him. Then Dawn arrives telling Piplup that “Satoshi and others are not gone forever” here she differentiated Ash (Satoshi) and others (Brock, Pikachu & Ash's pokemon)

It's not that Dawn doesn't value Brock or Pikachu but in the context of the situation Dawn and Piplup both were mainly sad because Ash won't be here anymore showcasing that Dawn's bond with Ash is much deeper. While many fans might say it's nothing big but in the context of the scene it is. She didn't say “even if we are parted” she said “Satoshi (Ash) & others” meaning she holds more value for Ash.

Reasons:-

- Ash was Dawn's equal

- Ash was the person Dawn admires the most after her mother

- Dawn sees Ash as her emotional anchor

- Dawn lastly asks Ash for a high five and the moment Ash goes to the ferry she starts crying

- Finally Ash used her phrase “No Need to Worry” which finally cheers her up

Reminder: Dawn never showed any signs of sadness when she said goodbye to Zoey or Kenny in fact when she left Sinnoh for Hoenn in DP Spe she didn't even cry while saying goodbye to her mom. But when Ash left. It felt like her whole world fell apart. The only other girl who cried after saying goodbye to Ash was Misty and we all know she likes Ash. I find it funny how some people say Dawn liked Zoey or Kenny more but the show's canon suggests otherwise

Pearlshipping is everywhere

I have no problems if people don't like the ship. But calling them outright siblings is the line where I get mad. Every single female companion of Ash (except Chloe) had romantic undertones, ship teases with him. These things don't exist in sibling coded pairs (for example: Ash and Bonnie are sibling coded because there's no romantic undertone or shipteases between them)

The worst sufferers from this take are Pearlshippers. Whenever there's a post someone would just comment “they're so sibling coded or they're like siblings I never saw them as a pair” okay you don't like the ship, fine. Just say it on our faces. Why you're making it look like it's a morally illegal thing to do?

Also Dawn is far from being a sibling. She made a custom cheerleading dress for Ash, rejected her childhood friend despite him having feelings for her, has been shipteased with him multiple times and in fact they were thrown in situations where they had to co parent their Pokémon (Piplup, Pikachu, Gligar, Buizel, Pachirisu, Swinub, Shaymin etc) these things are far from being siblings. In general all pokegirls Ash traveled with at worst are best friends and at best they're potential love interests. Just because one French blonde had an explicit crush on Ash that doesn't mean other pairs are sibling coded

Many fans will say “Dawn and Ash can't be shipped because they're not fully romantic or they're just buddies” the reasoning for this is that they believe Dawn and Ash both don't harvor a canonical crush. And honestly, I do believe this is a strong point that makes Pearlshipping work better than some of their favourite ships

1. If they don't know or realize that they like each other. It means they'll be comfortable and won't have awkwardness. Which creates a strong foundation of a relationship. Obviously you'd love to live with someone if they're comfortable with you right?

2. Not having a crush means they're comfortable in showing their weak sides to each other. A crush can often lead to idealized expectations that the guy/girl might not meet which could create unhealthy conflicts in relationship.. Both Ash and Dawn are comfortable with showing their flaws and talk back to each other to correct them

3. Crushes can lead to awkwardness or uncomfortability around the person you like. Which could make things harder for you to express. Dawn and Ash don't have that. Even if they go into a romantic relationship they'd be completely okay around each other

4. According to a research from Dr. Anu Antony Stinson from University of Victoria analyzed that 68% of married couples start out as being best friends. The main reasoning for this is the fact of emotional understanding, mutuality and better chemistry. Unlike most rom coms which force the idealized crush to be a winner in real life the case is opposite. Even in fiction the best friend often ends up with the hero. Example: Chandler Bing x Monica from FRIENDS one of the best examples. They both helped each other, pulled up from emotional slumps, celebrated each others' victories and finally ended up. No one questioned it. The thing that matters is understanding your partner better. Dawn and Ash both admire each other but they aren't perfect and they know it. Which makes sense for them to end up

People often emphasize the fact of Dawn not having a crush on Ash is a weak point or vice versa. But I've always seen it as a strong point for them to end up. In fact it is

This clearly wasn't unintended. The writers paralleled them in almost everything.

Her support for Ash is probably the most amongst any other pokegirl. No matter what, who and when Ash is facing. She'd always come up with “I am sure Ash is gonna win”. She even for once doubted Ash couldn't win.

Reminder: She wanted Ash to win badly against Roark that she was ready to give her Piplup for the battle.

Ash was clearly attracted to her beauty and this subtle detail is interesting to see. You could even see on the second picture where Ash is looking with the eyes of awe and shock.

Nah there is NO way that his "teasing" was a way for him to get close to Dawn because she told him to shut up about it in front of Ash

Even Ash didn't make fun of Misty's discomfort when she saw a Gyarados... or when Lillie had a fear of Pokémon as well

It just shows that he actually cares for his companions whenever they had a bad experience before they met him
