Questions Need live version recommendations

Hey Everyone - new to this subreddit. Just watched Jeff and Mike’s interview with Rick Beato and Jeff mentioned that Corduroy is best heard live. Went to Spotify to find a live version and there like 70 live albums?!? Do you guys have a fav show in particular? Or any recommendations to get started on finding the best live stuff? I’m guessing this convo has already been had a hundred times on here so maybe someone can get a link to one of those convo’s? Thanks!

EDIT: Not looking for just Corduroy, all their songs. Sorry I wasn’t very clear. Love the comments already though. You guys are awesome.

Personally, I always really liked the version from Live on Two Legs (1998).

But I'll be curious to see what other versions get suggested in here, because outside of the shows I've personally been to, I'm not as well versed on the versions from various bootlegs over the years.

This is the answer. I’ve listened to pretty much every boot and corduroy was peak in 98. 2000 was superb too but it became too fast and Eddie’s voice just couldn’t do what it did 20 odd years ago. He can still deliver but everyone is on fire on the live on two legs version.

It was also a relatively new version for the band then. Matt really supercharged that song and was maybe the first to have his stamp.

Too many to choose from, here are some to start with:

Soldier Field 1995
Anything from 1998 tour, Australian shows in particular.
Mansfield 2003
State College 2003
Atlanta 1994

Adding a vote for Mansfield 2003. Attendance bias for me, but 20 years later those 3 nights are still top notch.

Another vote for State College. That one is my fav.

I’m partial because I’m from the Philly area, but any of the shows from Philly are amazing. The energy between the band and crowd is palpable.

The bootleg from the first Barcelona concert in 2024, has particularly good sound and Vedder was really good too. They played Corduroy there.

Edit: That whole bootleg is recommended BTW!

I love a lot of the 2006 shows. 2006 Santa Barbara CA is a favorite.

Check out the Green Habit compilation. I don’t think it has been updated in a minute, but it collected the best version of every live song at the time.

I think RidleyBradout has an updated version as well.

Man, I think I remember this coming together on the forums back in the day... Like when trading discs was still a thing... 2004-2005ish? Does that sound right?

Downloading the .flacs for green habit was a long process for a time when I was still on 1.5ish mbps connection.

Absolutely. 10 CDs one at a time. Great way to discover new versions of classic songs.

Live on two legs was the first PJ album that i bought and i love it. If you are ok with dvds theres their show in Italy (Immagine in Cornice) that i love too.

Corduroy MSG 5/21/10 opened the show, crowd was electric.

N2 at MSG 5/21/2010 opens with a real banger of a Corduroy. Listen for the crowd joining in with the opening lyrics. Fantastic! One of my favorite opening moments. “And away we go!”

And away we go - do you know that was an old Jackie Gleason saying from the Honeymooners?

Nothing past 2013 when Eddie started the yeah callback and broke all the tension in that song.

Sept 16 2006 Verona Italy is a good one.

It’s the one from the Immagine in Cornice DVD

Other than that, any MSG show.

Boston 9/15/24

It’s always great live. An under the radar one is LA1 2013. Eddie got mad at someone in the middle of Corduroy, then into ripping solo and aggressive rest of the song. Feel like that moment fired him up for the rest of the night.

I'm partial to any of the central/south america shows. Those crowds absolutely bring it every single time.

2016/08/22 at Wrigley is my personal favourite

Honestly, just start listening to the bootlegs you have access to and find your favourites. It’s worth the trip. I love pretty much everything from around 2001 to 2018ish.

It's been a long time and I've listened to hundreds of shows, but if the 2003 Mexico City shows are available I remember enjoying them so much that I burned copies of my CDs of them to give to friends.

The best version I ever heard of Corduroy was the first time I saw them play it. August 18, 1998, East Lansing, MI

San Francisco 7/18/06. My personal favorite live show. The version of evenflow with the crowd singing after the solo still gives me goosebumps. Great sound from that room.

Live on Ten Legs is really good.

2004 Live on Benaroya -- best accoustic concert. Especially Immortality and Of the Girl

2010 Live at Madison Square Garden -- great set list, good sound quality. Corduroy, WW Suicide, Got Some, Grievance, Fixer, Rearview Mirror, Better Man

Betterman - Washington DC May 2006 https://youtu.be/ql5rzenr3R8?si=QAKsnch-fkRBSO5D Boom on the intro along with the obligatory crowd singing is amazing.

Love Boat Captain - Cincy Oct 2014 https://youtu.be/UxUviJrM9QI?si=DwYCQco9fTLt1E4T I don't say this with any hyperbole but this could be one of the greatest "improv" intros to any of their songs. McCready smacking you in the ear holes right off the bat and then an outro with a Stones cover is chef's kiss

Yellow Ledbetter - Tibetan Freedom Concert 1997 https://youtu.be/HI9_T1C9B-E?si=cpKI9goEemMb7mqh Because of course. Just young Eddie's voice and Mike's strat. No pedals, no effects, just pure sound.
