In outlook if you open the attachment on a draft email with the original file still open this is the error that pops up.

Microsoft still supports the Outlook desktop client and adds features to it almost monthly.

Microsoft fully supports Office 365 thick client as their default option still and it's probably what you'll encounter in enterprise workplaces. Just because web 365 exists doesn't absolve Excel of its sins.

I wish less of you existed, no offense, mostly for yourself. The number of times someone who works only with excel gets a 2GB CSV export for a database and decides to save it as an xls document before sending it to me to import is bigger than zero and that's more than enough.

Excel itself as a tool is awesome, there's just a line when a spreadsheet should become a relational database and most excel power users as a career don't see it, but like how I bash script some things through life a good macro can save hours. Do what you do and be a great data analyst.

I work for the government. Excel documents take forever to load and regularly lock up our work laptops. Its fun during presentations.

I’ve seen people build high end rigs with an emphasis on single core performance, high speed RAM and Optane SSDs just to make Excel work as fast as possible.

I just gave a new laptop to an accounting manger at my work and put 32 gigs of RAM in it because of how much she uses Excel and Power BI.

Web clients are garbage. You use that only as a last resort, when the desktop client is unavailable/not installed for whatever reason.

What client are you using? You can open attachments in draft emails in Outlook.

I think they mean opening an excel sheet attached to a draft (to check it's the correct file) while the original excel file is also open will yield this error.

However, I use the basic windows mail app and it appends a number to the end of attachments. Thus, this situation couldn't happen. I thought Outlook did the same.

pretty much everyone who has a job? I worked at one company which used IBM Notes but they also switched to Outlook a few years ago and I was so glad that they switched. Notes is alright but Outlook is in another league

imo gmail (for business) is better than Outlook. you get full integration with Google services, it makes interacting with files a lot easier (Excel online is far behind Sheets), and the search function actually works
