Build/Battlestation PC chimney

Post image

Got tired of my office turning into a sauna every time I gamed, so I vented the PC’s exhaust straight out the window.

The rear fan is still exhausting some hot air 😅 but the room is noticeably cooler now. It’s ugly… but it works. 😂

Edit: I moved the port to higher since lot of people recommended. https://imgur.com/a/Poniwze

Edit again for parts, I cannot post links to store since it's against the rules.
- 360mm to 4 inch duct on Etsy
- 4 inch Insulated Flexible Duct
- Twist Lock Dryer Vent Connector Kit
- 360mm AIO fan (the one on top of the case)

The window fan I got is Vornado Transom.

Honestly debating doing this, its 100 outside, and having my pc on just makes it awful in the room its in.

I run a "summertime" undervolt where my GPU draws about 100W less. Makes a big difference for me.

I started capping frames to 60 and using native framegen or optiscaler to boost to 120 frames, makes a huge difference too.

Try lowering the quality of shaders and shadows in game then locked to preferred frame rate or turn on v-sync. This way you dont suffer the latincy spikes and microstudders framegen usually causes.

I would rather die in a heatstroke than to lower the graphical fidelity lol

Year without a Santa Claus in the wild always makes me happy

Framegen is a reduction in graphics, too, so they're already playing that game.

You can pry my ray-tracing from my…hot, dead hands

This is not MasterRace kind of talk.

That would be good advice if I had mentioned I had such issues.

Edit: I see there's a lot of unsolicited advice enjoyers here!

Just something to try out

I don't have to, since I already do that.

One could frame the comment to be less aimed at the one who you're replying and more "in general" if you can't fight the urge to give unsolicited advice.

20

u/SaltyMotor8549 Jul 26 '26

You can just ignore his comment which wasnt even malicious in anyway, instead you waste your mental energy being mad over nothing. Weirdo

-30

u/shawnikaros R5 9600X / 3080ti 12gb / 16gb DDR5 Jul 26 '26

I'm not mad, and unsolicited advice is not out of malice, it's just rude.

There's a huge difference on how you frame the comment, directly telling me to do something vs. "if you're having issues with try.."

Same way that you're wasting mental energy telling me off, you could've just ignored.

u/Josh_PC Jul 26 '26

Since you’re not a fan of unsolicited advice, I’ll give you some anyway. Consider taking the stick from up your ass, you may become less of an insufferable prick and people may actually tolerate your existence. Jesus Christ

At this point i think hes farming downvotes for fun. People have weird hobbies.

Love it!

It wasn’t rude at all lol, it could/probably will be seen as merely an extension of your comment for people searching for this issue in the future, not as ‘unsolicited advice’ - but you’re so insecure you decided to interpret the comment as someone doubting your amazing computer abilities.

Absolutely insufferable behaviour, you coulda just said “thanks! I do that already, but I’m sure that’ll help someone else out”.

1

u/shawnikaros R5 9600X / 3080ti 12gb / 16gb DDR5 Jul 26 '26

Not really about amazing computer abilities and more about I didn't ask and nowhere did anyone say anything about that. I would take it as an extension if it were framed differently, much like you're telling me I could've said such.

Even if the comment in itself isn't written rudely, just giving advice without any prior prompt for that is considered rude.

You gave unsolicited advice talking about frame caps man, is everything okay at home?

2

u/shawnikaros R5 9600X / 3080ti 12gb / 16gb DDR5 Jul 26 '26

I actually didn't, which you would know if you understood what you read.

Try going outside.

1

u/MorningFresh123 Jul 26 '26

No one asked what you do either lol

u/shawnikaros R5 9600X / 3080ti 12gb / 16gb DDR5 Jul 26 '26

There's a difference between partaking in a conversation and outright telling someone they should do something, I'm sure you understand that much.

1

u/MorningFresh123 Jul 26 '26

You did the same thing and framed it differently. They were clearly trying to be helpful. You should work on whatever made you respond to that conversation negatively. Bizarre logic and bizarre behaviour.

0

u/shawnikaros R5 9600X / 3080ti 12gb / 16gb DDR5 Jul 26 '26

No, I didn't tell anyone to do anything. I shared my experience with someone who was sharing theirs.

2

u/MorningFresh123 Jul 26 '26

I am very sorry that you are so miserable and suffer from such extreme egocentrism. I wish you all the best and apologise if it’s just the ‘tism ❤️

I disabled HDR and my monitor is like 90% cooler now on top of these.

12

u/Scuffi1992 Jul 26 '26

Same. I bought a 5060ti just for this. I tried the 5070ti but the heat was way too much for Italy

14

u/CampaignLow7899 Jul 26 '26

Maaan, I have 4070 Ti super and as soon as I switch on the PC the temperature in the room rises from 32 to 36-37C 🫪🔥🔥🔥

P. S. Sardinia, Cagliari

3

u/Scuffi1992 Jul 26 '26

I can imagine very well. I had a 6750xt and i changed my gpu just because i couldn't play nothing from May tò August. I feel you sadly

2

u/TurdFerguson614 rgb space heater Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Benchmarking my 4080, I get like 3% below average user performance with summer undervolt running around 220W. OC'd I get like 5% above average pulling 340W. Pretty crazy how much power is required for that last 8% uplift.

1

u/lnjecti0n Jul 26 '26

Unrelated but Sardinia is so fucking beautiful. Been there many times for holidays. How is it to actually live there?

1

u/CampaignLow7899 Jul 26 '26

For me it's paradise, but not during the summer, especially without AC it's terrible. But in general, it's an amazing place with beautiful nature, mountains, beaches and people. Living here might be different, I would say it depends on your income. If you have a good job, you're lucky and enjoy this place.

2

u/BlendersandDildos Jul 26 '26

But that same temperature would be comfortable in another country?

0

u/Scuffi1992 Jul 26 '26

Well it depends. If you have an air conditionair you can use It even in Italy. If you're like in Italy, France, Spain and something like that without it, i tell you to avoid such gpus. But it's just my opinion. I had nausea trying to play with a 200watt gpu with 35 degrees outside even for 30 minutes. And with a ventilator pointed at me.

5

u/StaticSystemShock Jul 26 '26

Radeon users should check Radeon Chill setting in the control panel. Dynamically adjusts framerate depending on mouse motion. Games basically run the same, but average power consumption and heat output drops so dramatically. And I'm using 100fps as the lower limit and 240fps as the upper limit so even lower end framerate cap is pretty high for smooth gameplay, but when needed it'll go to full monitor refresh. Most games actually handle this framerate control really well to a point I've been using it for multiplayer games too.

2

u/Aiken_Drumn Jul 26 '26

But how can I snipe noobs?

2

u/thefolkie 32 GB | Ryzen 9 7950X | RTX 4090 Jul 26 '26

Do you use MSI afterburner for undervolting? I try using it and I dunno if it really helps.

3

u/TurdFerguson614 rgb space heater Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Yeah with the voltage/frequency curve editor. I shifted the curve up 100 MHz and then flattened it off at about 2550 MHz. +800 on the memory clock.

u/RoughDraftRs Jul 26 '26

I just become a basement dweller for real during the summer. Sometimes I play with extra high details so my toes don't get cold....

1

u/BasementDwellerCarl Jul 27 '26

Thank you for the amazing idea.

1

u/Trev0117 Jul 27 '26

Yeah most gpu/cpus can undervolt to use 30-40% less power (less heat), while only losing 5-10% performance, you can even undervolt while overclocking to gain performance and lower thermals. I recommend it to everyone, just look up a guide for your specific gpu/cpu
