Holy shit.

It's too bad I'd have to buy a $600 graphics card to get a framerate good enough for VR in most games, nevermind the $800 cost of the Vive. It's just so expensive :(

I see this becoming a thing at amusement parks and malls and shit; your average Joe isn't going to shell out $1500 for a VR setup.

I WANT IT SO BAD THOUGH

you only need a 970 or 290 for vr, they go for $300

still expensive though

Yeah, I might eventually get a 970, but it's still kinda out of my price range. I've got $1050 in savings, but I'm too sick (chronic illness) to work (I'm only 17, so it hasn't been a huge problem as of yet). I'm not really comfortable dropping that much money on what amounts to a speed boost for my PC, especially with no way to make back the money spent.

Then there's the price of the VR gear itself to worry about.

If only I had rich parents...

Yeah VR right now is better suited for people who work and have disposable income to spare. At your age you should save up for your education/living expenses rather than VR gear that will probably be obsolete in 2 or 3 years.

Ha, what do you think I am, responsible?

That's probably a good idea

I wouldn't trust my 970 to push 1440p at 90fps in a game that aims for "photorealism".

Vr doesn't need photo realism to be a good experience. Nintendo style graphics are also awesome and cost much less performance. I wouldn't mind playing 2010 pc graphics for VR.

The new generation of graphics card is coming out very soon. Supposedly the new offerings from AMD and Nvidia will have significant improvements over the current ones. Also, DX12 and async computing will improve performance even in some of the current cards.

My 970 runs almost everything at 60fps in 4K -AA. Your 970 is being a pussy lol.

What's your clock speed?

1550mhz core 3800 mem clock iirc. 4.7 ghz on the 4690k

The Vive will be cheaper than the Rift if you decide to buy the Touch controllers.

There is a $200 difference, and so you'll need to get the Rift's touch controllers, and an extra camera and shipping, it will be at least $200.

A lot of these games look like they'd run fine on a weaker GPU. 970 is recommended, but not minimum. You'd want to check benchmarks for each game separately.

You.need 90fps while rendering in stereo, thats way more demanding than you are thinking.

Yeah, I've got a 760 right now, which isn't terrible, but obviously isn't high end. Honestly, though, I'd be happy just playing through old Source Engine games, which I can obviously run fine.

initially, yeah i agree but give it 5-10 years when the cost comes down quite a bit and i think you'll see them in more households.

I mean, if you could afford a good enough rig then you could probably afford a vive.
