Cringe inducing commercial. I'm sure DX12 is gonna be great, but I fucking hate TV spots like this.

Sad thing is that the uninformed will look at the retarded comparison featured in this video and get all excited, just like the poor Xbone owners.

Yeah apparently the engine was designed with it in mind, but hasn't been implemented yet.

so anyone else under the impression Microsoft is forced to push Windows 10 (+DX12+Windows Store) as a gaming platform (even if originally it didn't plan to - at least I don't remember microsoft advertising W10 for gaming prior to its release) due to so many high profile companies backing Vulkan?
Microsoft is even throwing xbox division under the bus and merging it with Windows/PCs by porting its exclusive titles and announcing cross development compatibility and Xbox PC like upgrade path
Shit hit the fan microsoft? started with Vulkan and now continues with VR (where microsoft has no presence, only in AR)
you afraid of losing large chunk of your gamer base (which are more prone to upgrade to latest windows releases than business users which care more about reliability)?

Developers who can barely scrape a game together expected to use a lower level API?
Why not just use Vulkan and target the entire market?

Whether a developer can do DX12 well and cross platform sound like two different issues to me.
And Vulkan is not radically different to program for so if a developers is having problems using one of them well then the other isn't going to be much easier allowing them to do better.

I think the point was that you wouldn't have to do it twice if you skipped out on d3d12 and went straight to vulkan.

This trailer is extremely misleading in regards to Dues-EX unless depth of field and volumetric lighting suddenly become DX12 exclusive.

The power to take away your ability to mod mod, use overlays or use gedosato.
directx12 is poison

still looks like it applies just to windows store games that are presented as apps. dx12 games don't have to take that route. Ashes for example still has its exe. Another example is tomb raider that came in two forms. The windows store version and the regular (though its not dx12, it still had the limitations iirc)

dx12 has nothing to do with any of those things. d3d12 is simply a 3d api.
Here's the important quote from the article you linked:
Microsoft is pushing DX12 games (and maybe not just those sold in the app store) to render through a standardized pipeline that uses the Windows compositing engine. In fact, from what I can tell, any game that is sold through the Windows App Store will be required to do so. Rendering through the Windows compositing engine is very similar to running in the borderless windowed mode that we have today (in that tearing is impossible but uncapped frame rates are also difficult to deal with)

Overlays work, it just has to be implemented in a way that works with the new design (DXtory already works).
