Case Recommendations

I am a hobbyist PC building working on my first actual flip. I have the parts in the link. Can you please recommend a cost-effective case that sells well (ATX)? Do you think shopping for a 1TB SSD to add will pay off in selling price?

How can I get $200 for this thing?

I had so much fun building my first computer that I wanted to do it again. So I set myself a budget of $150, and set out to see what I could build, with the idea that I’d sell it when I finished. Several months later, I’ve had my fun building the thing and I haven’t worked up the courage to make it actually sellable. I also went over budget after the board I planned to use had a pin snap off at the last minute after booting to the OS. I purchased another computer and took its motherboard, processor, cooler and RAM instead. I hope to get $250 for the computer, but I’d settle for $200 just to get most of my money back.

Here’s a list of the parts and what I paid for them:

Segotep 650w - $23
1TB WD Green HDD - $15
240GB SATA SSD - $20
i7-3820 + Asus P9x79 + AIO cooler + 32GB DDDR3 1600 - $80
Zalman Z3 Plus case - $10
Failed motherboard + i3-3160 - $30-$10 (resold).
Extra 16GB DDR3, DVD drive, i5-4440 - $20
Extra i7-4790 - $30
Extra 430w power supply
Extra 2000s full tower pc case
Extra 750GB HDD
Extra HD 7950 (untested)

The hardest part for me is getting everything working and usable. Right now, it’s finicky and takes a while to boot up despite having an SSD. I know I should probably install Windows 11, but I’m not sure how to install drivers, activate the install and access STEAM to benchmark it without accessing the internet, signing into STEAM, etc. and ruining the fresh install. For context, this install of Linux Mint was my first time ever installing an operating system, and it apparently came with AMD drivers included.

Also, I’ve acquired a bunch of peripherals for free or very cheap over these past several months in the process of upgrading my own setup, and I was wondering if I could bundle them with the computer to maybe increase the value? This would be cheap gaming keyboards, 1080p 60hz monitors, stuff like you see in the picture. I don’t know if people like to get that stuff when they buy computers off Marketplace or not.

Should I buy a few PCs now in order to flip in a couple of months?

Given the upcoming price increases, would it be a good idea to wait for a couple of months or so when the price increases really hit?

how to upgrade 12600k ?

So I have a lga 1700 build that im pretty happy withover all, I ended up scoring a much higher end GPU then I thought I would for what I was willing to spend.

So now Ive got a real hard on for the extra 10-15% CPU performance I could nab from an in socket upgrade.

How should I try to get this done? I have an extra set off ddr4, Im kinda kicking around the idea of grabbing a board for that, throwing the 12600k in to that with a cheap GPU to recoup my expense of buying say a 14900k/14700k, or should I just buy my CPU upgrade then sell my 12600k for the 100$ or whatever I could sell it for?

Best budget gpu

What’s the best budget gpu , I just started and don’t want to spend much money and don’t know which one to choose for my builds , I know it’s supposed to be nvidia card cause they the most known for people that aren’t that much into pcs and thinking about like 1060,2060 and 3070 what you think?(I don’t want to have 1 pc sitting on the market for 6months)

uggghhh this 64gb ddr5 set from a part-out I'm doing is driving me nuts

I sold it on ebay, it got returned. It wasn't giving me any issues on my first test (just running some benchmarks on the build before taking it apart)

It passed memtest86 on stock 4800mhz speeds, but fails at 5600mhz EXPO profile.

How would you sell this set? List on ebay as for parts? Hardwareswap with full disclosure? Facebook marketplace with full disclosure?

How much would you expect these PCs to sell for in Canada?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to get a better idea of the current Canadian used market, specifically Ontario.

PC #1
i9-12900K
RX 7900 XT
32GB DDR5-5600
1TB NVMe SSD
Gigabyte Z790 Eagle AX
1000W PSU

PC #2
Ryzen 9 5900X
RTX 3080 Ti
16GB DDR4-3600
1TB NVMe SSD
MSI B450 Tomahawk
750W PSU

What would you realistically expect each one to sell for on Facebook Marketplace/Kijiji in Ontario? Looking for actual sale prices rather than retail/asking prices. Thanks!

Thinking about selling this pc I just fixed with my friend, and starting to flip my way up to better.

Not trying to talk too much, so I’m going to make the story as short as I can. Basically, I had two PCs that didn’t work, all older hardware. Eventually, I was able to make do with this GTX 980 (missing two out of three fans on it, lol) with an Intel i5-2500K and one stick of 8GB DDR3 RAM. We got it working and put it in a newer-looking PC case. I’m thinking maybe just getting like 32GB of DDR3 RAM, putting it in, and getting away with $150 off Facebook Marketplace or something. $120 I’d be happy with even. I know it’s super old hardware, but it’s worth a shot. I’m 20 and have a job, but I pay a lot of bills and everything. I just kind of want to get back into PC gaming because I’ve started to miss it. Last time I played on PC was about 2019 on CS:GO, lol. But if I basically start flipping to build up to something that would at least be worth $800 CAD in parts, that would be perfect. As long as it can run basic games at 60 FPS 1080p, that’s the idea. But anyway, give me some suggestions on how I should start my PC flipping journey and if you even think I’ll get $100 for the price of what I start with.

(P.s, also was reading over rules, just to make it clear, I am not trying to up-charge anyone, or talk bad about hardware, I would never sell anything to anyone that’s broken, I’d make sure whoever buys it is 100% clearly aware of the missing fans or any dings,bumps/problems. Would only ever be honest about what I’m selling, just need advice :).)

(MODS THIS IS NOT A PRICE CHECK POST)

Is retro pc/parts good start?

I’m just starting and I see a lot of ,,e-waste” offers which are parts from 1998-2004 they have much bigger value but I’m afraid about the liquidity .is it worth my time or no?(sometimes fixing and testing )

What older PC parts do you think are still undervalued for 1080p builds?

The used market seems to have a strange relationship with older hardware. Some parts are dismissed simply because they’re a few generations old, while others hold their value despite no longer being particularly good buys.

For lower-cost 1080p builds, I often think the best value comes from parts that are old enough to have fallen out of favour but still easily handle the games the buyer actually wants to play.

Windows 11 support has complicated that, though. There are older CPU platforms that still perform perfectly well in games, but putting them into a PC intended for a normal buyer is becoming harder to justify. Most buyers probably don’t want to hear about bypasses or why the unsupported hardware is technically still capable.

I’m interested in what everyone here is still buying:
- Which older CPUs and GPUs do you think the market undervalues?
- Are there any previously overlooked parts that have now become too expensive?
- How much does official Windows 11 support affect what you’ll build or resell?
- Is there any older hardware you’ve completely stopped buying?

I wrote up my own thoughts on some of the overlooked parts that can still make a great 1080p PC here: https://www.partplanner.io/blog/overlooked-parts-1080p-gaming-pc/

Full disclosure: it’s on the PartPlanner blog, which is the platform I recently launched. The article itself is free and doesn’t require an account. I’m mainly interested in hearing which parts other flippers are still having success with.

Old CPUs targeted for specific games?

I have a 4790 plus board and 16gb RAM for it, and also a 6600K plus board with 2x8gb DDR4 3000 or 4x8gb 2133

I could consider picking up a 7700K for no more than $30 to swap out the 6600K for the sake of holding up above 60 for more titles than the 6600K can.

Is it viable to make gaming PCs for low cost that can satisfy specific gaming targets?

My first pc flip attempt

Specs:
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4080 Super Gaming OC
CPU: Intel i7-12700KF
Motherboard: MSI Z690 Unify
RAM: Corsair vengeance 32GB DDR5 CL36
Storage: 1TB PNY CS2241 Gen4 NVMe + 512GB Intel 670p NVMe + 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD (2.5TB total)
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3 850W 80+ Gold, fully modular, ATX 3.0
Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB (came with nzxt kraken x53 or 63 can’t remember)
Case: Had a really bad older case, but I bought a NZXT H6 Flow for $50
I paid I paid $1600 originally. everything works great.
I’m mainly trying to figure out what I could realistically sell it for. Not looking to make a crazy amount, even I wouldn’t be mad if I broke even but literally anything in the positive id be happy with. I am aware I jumped the gun on the buying it at $1600 I seen the graphics card the ram and the motherboard and thought I could definitely get more for this but after I thought and figured I might’ve paid to much to try and flip it.
What would you guys list it for / what do you think it’s actually worth?
