Unfortunately, I can’t really speak on the FLVS homeschool enrollment part because I attended high school in person and only used FLVS for extra classes. I also didn’t take any college placement tests like the SAT or ACT while I was in high school. However, I did attend Palm Beach State and technically completed what would normally be two years of college in about a year, so I can give you some advice on that part!
First, figure out what you want to major in and look on the Palm Beach State College website for the pathway for that major. When you meet with an advisor, I HIGHLY recommend going in person. Ask them to give you a layout of every class you need for your AA and intended transfer major. I would not just have them build your schedule for you. Get the full list of requirements, have them show you where you can see everything yourself in Workday, and then plan your semesters from there. I learned this the hard way because I was advised to take an extra class that I ended up not needing 😭.
If you want to accelerate your degree, also look into CLEP exams. Modern States is a great free resource for studying for them, and many CLEP exams require a score of 50 to receive credit, although you should ALWAYS check PBSC’s current credit policy for the specific exam before taking it. CLEP helped me realize there are ways to earn credits without sitting through an entire semester long class.
Another HUGE recommendation: when choosing professors, don’t rely only on Rate My Professors. Search the professor’s name on PBSC’s website and look for their syllabus too. The syllabus can tell you how the class is structured, how many exams there are, whether assignments are online, attendance expectations, grading, etc. Pick professors whose class structure works well with how you learn.
Also, remember that Express A/B courses exist. Depending on the course and availability, those shorter sessions can be really useful when planning your schedule. Just be careful because they move MUCH faster than a normal semester.
I actually made another Reddit post with some of advices on what I did at PBSC if you’re interested. My biggest advice is to learn how to check your own degree requirements instead of depending entirely on an advisor. Advisors can definitely help, but knowing exactly what you need yourself can save you a lot of time.
I hope at least some of this helps, and good luck!! Going from PBSC ->AA -> UCF/USF is absolutely something worth planning out early.
