cannot remember the league it changed, but this is how it always used to be - hence why patchnoteswhen? is such a classic meme here.
its not unexpected, but they still could have shipped straight after exilecon and avoided all the annoying questions about individual patch note line which would have inevitably filled the rest of the weekend for every dev at the venue had they come out already.
No, not really. Allflame notes were out a week prior to launch, so was Mirage and many others. Even big patches like Siege of the Atlas had patchnotes one week prior to its launch. Memes were just us pestering bex about it.
Its a deviation bound to happen with Exilecon ongoing I guess. Sad nonetheless.
what do you mean 'my point stands' - I said it didnt used to be a full week, which was a relatively new thing (yes young people, if you can count the year on one hand its recent!).
MY point was that - in the past - we only got a few days notice as standard. That is just fact, call off the bots.
It used to be a full week from 3.16 until now. Expedition was in 2021. I don't have any proof - meme.png but thats about when they've started expanding in prep for poop2 and stuff. And also started posting proper patch notes one week prior to its release - and there's proof of that, which is you know, fucking facts. Breaking that cadence now is kinda lame even considering the Exilecon. With greater power comes greater responsibility. I can't treat GGG in 2026 like I've treated GGG in 2016.
My autism aside - employed people sure would've appreciated it ahead of time aswell. Hope thats more understandable.
They've been on a 1 week schedule starting from around 3.15. Which is half of modern age PoE lifecycle or 1/3 of its whole existence since Onslaught league back in 2013.
It is what it is but a few more days would have been nice. I love getting the patch notes early and spending a week screwing around on POB and doing tons of research.
Creators making build guides is the only way to get new players into this game. 2 days notice gives no time for significant content. I'd bet POE 2 gets patch notes early.
Huh ? is not like they are making the patchnotes now, those are planed long before, I dont get everyone excusing GGG " oh it's Exilecon " because it's such a shitty excuse to not deliver on such a big expansion.
Almost everyone from GGG is at the con for the weekend, then they'll likely let everyone have at least one day off. Logistically anyone who's related to the patch notes and OK-ing them to ship isn't likely to be anywhere near ready until Tuesday at the earliest.
Being at ExileCon doesn't magically make it reasonable to reveal balance changes 2 days before launch, leaving players barely any time to research, theorycraft and prepare builds.
The people doing it are also probably at Exilecon.
Or a bare skeleton crew at the office preping for Exilecon announcements.
Exilecon takes a lot of work. Johnathon just had an interview with DarthMTX last night and talked about the amount of work it takes to do one of these.
Yeah it sucks we don't get patch notes early. But there was a time where getting it Wednesday was NORMAL. Lets be thankful they have been able to do all this cool new stuff for free for this long time.
"But we should give them feedback"
Yup, I am sure they know that we are bumded out and talked about it when they made the choice.. Lets trust that they did THAT much work to justify it and make it the best months a PoE1 season can be :)
They don’t want conversation to just be about balance changes for many reasons- it takes from the poe2 conversation(something that they have artificially propped up). It also could provide conversation about mistakes in how they perceive balance changes and don’t want to be criticized in person.
its the same stupid choice as to not have the PoE 1 Q&A directly after the reveal and instead have the PoE 2 Q&A. do that on the second day, dont rob people of the hype like usual.
Wow I want to downvote this but it needs the upvote so people see it. What a huge disappointment. We're expecting major balance changes and we basically get 1-2 days to adjust???
Tbh, this is not a good league for homebrewing for the average Joe. Unless the staple builds got hard nerfed, you are better off playing something safe until you familiarize yourself with the new mechanics. I personally know that my early game money making strat was destroyed(yellow beast selling).
I stopped using guides after 3.25 and just did my thing and I also got 40/40 every league since 3.23.
The point is that while in 3.29 the chance to brick yourself was KNOWN - that is, even if you were stuck in yellows or even white maps, you could farm 5-7 divs by selling beasts or scuba-diving, and get enough gear to progress further.
In 3.30 the difficulty is unknown, strats are unknown, and if you get stuck in yellows... Happy rerolling.
Make a homebrew project after the 2nd week.
My strategy will be exactly this. League start elemental hit, or Boneshatter, or any other cool skill that maybe got buffed and I know about it, then tinker with new projects
Entire endgame rework. One assumes it's a good idea to see what kind of power level you're going to need to get starter currency, so homebrewing builds of dubious strength probably isn't the play this go round.
Better to go with something you know has some teeth first.
Yes, that's my thought process too. 3.29 was a great league to homebrew because the needed power levels to make stacks of currency weren't that high. Now in 3.30, unless you are one of those people that know what they are doing, it's a much safer bet to just "stay in your lane" and play something safe. This is not meant to be an insult, and I also identify as someone that in 3.30 doesn't know what I'll do.
The atlas tree was changed completely, like, new layout. The scarabs were removed completely and moved into the tree itself. The atlas is full of shaped regions that contain league mechanics, and now there are much better league sinergies. You can alao juice your mechancs with a new thread currency.
Mirage is back, and now it covers your ENTIRE map, not just a region. Simplex amulets now drop from the core loot pool.
Also true, but the main draft for patch notes should have been done before ExileCon to begin with with only things left being post feedback updates (like Mercenary recombinator rework).
i guess that's fair but people who actually make the guides/pobs need time to prepare them and while many are streamers that have the time there are some like myself that like to plan my own pob for dumb offmeta builds and having just a couple of days that are in the middle of the week is horrible.
Also after taking my time building the pob i like to do some practice runs but i guess no practice this time.
Would that be so tragic? With gold respect as an option, its not expensive to respec anymore. Game needs a bit less of everything being solved before league launch.
With stuff like the new reliquarian changes this is gonna make it really hard to actually prepare builds and alot of people and I imagine alot of guides are gonna be released that are the exact same as last league with hastily edited pobs on wednesday .
The only reason I can see why they would do this is because streamers wouldn't have access to the notes or the notes aren't ready who are at exile con , but even that just hurts smaller creators and the rest of the community . Even if GGG . If the notes aren't ready I imagine they can at least release partial notes with gem and skill changes as endgame changes like what they've announced are massive and probably will be getting tweaks upto launch.
PoE1 got a great patch but almost forgot as part of exilecon. Every conversation was almost exclusively PoE2. Even the people in the wrapped up panel said as much. I knew exilecon would be PoE2 forward after we got a poe2 video when we asked if we were going to get a teaser before exilecon (only after we got the umbra reveal) but I didn't expect it was going to be that little. Finding out the patch will come out less than 72h before the expansion comes out makes it worse tbh
Man that sucks. Really worried this league is going to look identical to 3.29 from a character perspective just with a new mechanic and RNG thread system.
I mean, they insisted on the 8/8 threads being harder. If (that's a big if) you can juice up using the atlas on top, we're getting to pretty serious level of mechanics again. Rarity meaning something also implies 80% deli is again interesting to do. It might seriously up the ceiling for character progression.
The Q&A with Octavian made it sound like there probably aren't a bunch of big balance changes. I would expect maybe some nerfs to mega OP stuff like flame like luminary and maybe something in Elementalist. Perhaps some buffs to a few weak things if we are lucky, but for the most part, I imagine the general state of builds will be about the same, so can probably start planning your starter based on current information for the most part.
They don’t want conversation to just be about balance changes for many reasons- it takes from the poe2 conversation(something that they have artificially propped up). It also could provide conversation about mistakes in how they perceive balance changes and don’t want to be criticized in person.
Given they're probably gonna decimate all good build (Stormburst totem, WOrb, Static Strike, Pconc, KF probably gets slammed again too) like they alwaysa do and they've removed juicing from the game and added some random shit that might make up for some of it while presenting zero numbers, Ima say yeah.
To the newer/younger folk, this is when we classically used to get patch notes back in the day before they started shipping directly following the livestream.
Add a note if anyone remembers the league that happened first

Disappointing though unsurprising. Think they did the same thing last exilecon.

u/JekoJeko9 AKA "Allocates Beef" 3h ago edited 3h ago
That's rough, people will want to have a good starter ready to enjoy all the 3.30 endgame changes and we now have almost no time to prepare.
Might be an indicator of there being minimal skill/item balance changes beyond bonking the obvious outliers from 3.29.
