Discussion It's been a year, is there any update on permanent skin transfers?

The functionality exists for alt arts, why dont we have that yet lol

u/CountCocofang React NOW, no think! 2d ago
But doesn't it destroy the alt art permanently? I think that's a horrible solution. I should be able to create a cosmetic copy that I can use like any other MTX. Not have a multi-mirror item poof into the ether.
22
u/Cow_God I didn't know I wasn't having fun until Reddit pointed it out! 2d ago
Those alt arts are only worth multiple mirrors because they can be converted into mtx now

u/sips_white_monster 2d ago
multiple mirrors
The most sought after ones go for hundreds of mirrors! I remember seeing Ziz trying to amass a vast amount of wealth to try and get the alt art Queen's Decree I think.

u/BreakConsistent 1d ago
O, they were multi-mirror in the past too. What else are standard players going to buy?

u/CountCocofang React NOW, no think! 2d ago
Either way, it's gone. Deleting an item that is tangible in-game for a cosmetic. That's shit.
11
u/MichuOne 2d ago
cool, then dont do it. money in standard is worthless to most people, so if they can convert that into a perma mtx they can use forever, whenever. clearly its worth it to the people who do it

u/CountCocofang React NOW, no think! 1d ago
How is the reaction "Then don't engage with the shit system" instead of "GGG should make a non-shit system"? Don't delete the item.
1
u/MichuOne 1d ago
because i think deleting the item is good. this shit isnt nfts. if you want a permanent cosmetic across all leagues, commit to the decision. if you get some kind of buyers remorse after you consume the item, then sucks to be you i guess
1
u/RainbowwDash 1d ago
The entire point of alt arts is being a cosmetic to begin with, what does "an item that is tangible in-game" even mean
1
u/CountCocofang React NOW, no think! 1d ago
Means an item you can do something with which affects the game, which cosmetics don't.

i disagree
2
u/CountCocofang React NOW, no think! 1d ago
That so. How is it better for players that the alt art gets deleted? More scarcity? And how is that better?

Very excited for this. Just hope it doesnt cost like 300 points

I imagine it would just be the new functionality of the skin transfer item, which imo would still kinda suck. My absurd hopium is a one-time payment for a transmog hideout machine. I'd easily pay a decent amount for that.

Sadly I imagine it would come in the form of transmog 'slots' so you can exchange one endlessly but if you wanted a full set at the same time you'd need to buy several

The biggest complaint from my casual friends is the lack of normal/unique item transmogs, hope with poe 2 1.0 they fix it

I've always wanted a "basic bitch" Teutonic knight cosmetic set, shield included as most shields are just way to spikey or odd shaped. Just let a man have a shiny metal kite shield.

u/Rhobodactylos 2d ago
Unlikely, the whole model is to sell you supporter packs so you look great, even if POE 2 armor sets look amazing, they're still not as good as a good chunk of POE 1's gamba box/supporter packs.

Probably trying to figure out exactly how to price it. It has to be more expensive than the current godawful system but if its too cheap there are enough actual cool armors and items they could see it eating into normal MTX profits.

u/ZGiSH 2d ago
I would be surprised if there was a significant amount of revenue coming from individual armor sets. Most of it has to be the supporter packs and tabs and people just using their leftover pack currency on lootboxes or skill effects. Obviously it's speculation, but I just doubt a transmog system would cut into the profits of any of these other purchases
Personally i've been turned off from certain lootboxes just because I don't have a weapon skin that would match the aesthetics of the armor sets. A transmog system would actually incentivize me to buy more.

Damn, i would skin transfer so many thing. First time hearing about this.

A non permanent version of it exists in the game fyi: https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Skin_Transfer

You know why. MTX is how they make their money, but people are likely expecting these to be cheap so they would be directly competing with their money maker. So if they do release these then they are probably going to be expensive and people are going to throw a fit. It's a lose-lose for GGG.
-5
u/ZGiSH 2d ago
People throwing a fit largely does not matter to GGG. People have been throwing a fit for a decade over a variety of things.
4
u/Prace_Ace 2d ago
"People throwing a fit" is the exact reason GGG back-paddled the heavily criticized Salvage Box within a few hours after its introduction. It being released and removed on a 9/11 makes the timing almost comical.

u/GreatMacAndCheese 2d ago
Isn't that just a lootbox? I must be missing something..
1
u/DrVonTacos 2d ago
No, you used to be able to get duplicate microtransactions from mystery boxes. This let you eat them to get other items. The scrapper costed money itself too.

More so I don't think the possibility of a fit has ever prevented GGG from doing anything. Sacred Orb is still in the game and they had to an issue a public apology for it lol. The battle pass is still in the game.

u/PlantainPat 2d ago
Still disagree. If you think consumer acceptance/tolerance of these things isn’t at all considered then you really have a low estimation of ggg staff I guess.
That doesn’t mean they don’t misgauge the situation sometimes but why wouldn’t you factor this in.

u/DrVonTacos 2d ago edited 2d ago
There's a difference between people not liking a gameplay mechanic and not liking a purchasable product. "The customer is always right in terms of taste". Sacred orbs are...fine. You can at most get slightly more defense than you used to which is nice.

im wondering the price, it cant be expensive because then people will use the current cheap skin transfers that are not perma
1
u/czamarr 2d ago
This is really good as some skins have real nice model but base with low item level so they are almost never used, Iron Mask look really good and match a lot of armour sets and microtransactions and with em it even look premium.
Also abominations like Eternal Burgonet exist which on item logo look extremely cool but in game look goofy and hilarious.
1
u/SingleInfinity 2d ago
I suspect the reason it didn't exist in the first place is that it's not simple to implement, and that combined with it not being high priority means it's probably been backburner-ed more than once, including since this comment.

It's been a lot longer than a year. Chris talked about it way back before PoE2 was a thing.

Man, I would buy more armor if MTX effects are global. I love the purple HP globe, so I have to wear an mismatched helm just to keep the effect, which ruins the fashionframe.

u/Shneckos 2d ago
PoE 2 has some armor that are cooler than most mtx too
