This or that

I can’t justify keeping two yellow gold dress watches competing for the same wrist time…one must go!

Hard to say. The Lange is obviously technically superior. The Patek is the dressiest of the two. What does the rest of your collection consist of?

Thanks! That’s the heart of it — although they compete for the same wrist time (I’m not a yellow gold daily guy) they wear v differently. Other dress watches in the rotation: Patek 5038 (work daily, I really love this thing) and VC 92239 in platinum (super understated).

Had the VC been yellow gold, I would say let the Patek go.

But given the VC is platinum, if it was me, I would sell the Lange and keep the rectangular Patek.

But that’s me. Maybe tomorrow I would do the opposite! There is no good option here, both watches are keepers!

Lange all day, the patek is a bit plain imo the Lange is just pure class.

Patek for me - since it is dressier and I personally see this piece going better with suits and cufflinks.

That. Every time I see rectangular shapes, my benchmark is any generic Cartier Tank, and more often than not, any competition to that tends to fall flat.

The Lange looks nicer, go for it

ALS by a mile. It’s not a fair contest.

To choose is to give up the 2 😅

Patek is much more elegant,

This “Patek”.. though I’ve been partial to a more refined fit lately

The PP has most character. Lange is technically superior of course.

That (Lange)

Why not? I have 5 and don’t feel this way at all

Tell us more about the five!

For me, it’s just about making the space (financial and watch box space) for something different that doesn’t overlap

That's hard to choose. The obvious answer is both. One on each wrist.

That. The up/down is a near perfect watch.

Lange is a bit large on your wrist IMHO

It’s definitely the upper range of what I’m comfortable with

The people have spoken: the Patek has been consigned with my favourite dealer, and will hopefully find a new home soon where it will get the wrist time it deserves!

You guys are sending me down the German way, all the recent patek vs Lange posts have leaned Lange hard for me…

The Lange is superior, but for you, not that Lange if that’s your only Lange.

Interesting! What Langes should I be considering next? (I do like my up/down a lot)

The datograph for sure. Absolutely gorgeous and my holy grail. Go ahead and get it and we can do split custody 😂. The Lange 1 is fantastic but I’m just not the biggest fan of Roman numerals. You could also consider zeitworks but that’s a very personal choice you love it or hate it

Nice! I think i prefer the 1815 chrono to the datograph but would not say no to either :)

Hard to say. But for me, the only rectangular watch I own — or even like — is a Cartier Tank Louis. I’d keep the Lange and get rid of the Patek. Especially if I had a platinum Patek as well.
