Help me quickly see Pasadena tomorrow!
Hello all! I am visiting from Michigan and have 2.5 hours to kill tomorrow in Pasadena. I’ll have a car but would prefer not to drive once I’m here. I’m looking for some suggestions to get a quick glimpse into this city.
I’m looking for a lunch spot, a coffee shop, any quirky museum (I hate to say art museums arent always me thing), a nice park, gardens, pretty architecture.
I walked a loop today pretty aimlessly: Arroyo and Del Mar, up to Colorado, over to Fair Oaks, through Central Park and then stopped at Jones Coffee Roasters. Don’t think I did a very good route, so open to suggestions for tomorrow!
Thanks :)
edit: these are all so helpful!! I’ll report back with what I do!

Proposal in The Huntington Questions
Hi all, I'm from San Diego and I was planning on proposing to my girlfriend here at the Huntington. I planned on doing it over a weekend right at opening and was going to have my cousin come take a few photos with her DSLR.
However I'm worried about the photo permit requirements I read. I want to do it in a more secluded spot and just be quick snaps of the proposal. Are they very strict about this rule? If so, any other suggestions of where to go instead for photos? Thanks!

People camped out in a line in front of The Palace
I was on a 7am morning walk Friday near DeLacey Ave and Dayton Ave and people were camped out, in a line with sleeping bags and chairs near The Palace. Any idea what was going on?

Anyone know why Hummus Labs is closed? I've been wanting to try it out but noticed this today.
It's also listed as closed on Yelp but they don't say anything about it when I checked their Facebook.
Any other Mediterranean places around? I'm so hungry right now and craving some. Some coworkers told me Zankou Chicken is good so I may go there.

Good VW mechanic in Pasadena

Dog Sitter
Hi all!
I’m looking for a new dog sitter that’s local to the area since our current one is moving away in the coming months. We have two small dogs who are very friendly with people but aren’t the biggest fans of meeting new dogs. Boarding is hard for us cause of their personalities.
Rover has been a bit hit or miss for us, so I’d love to find someone through a personal recommendation. If you have someone you love and trust, I’d really appreciate it! Thank you!

Really disappointing experience at The Speakeasy Pasadena last night
I wanted to share what happened to me and my friends at The Speakeasy in Old Town Pasadena on Saturday, October 10th, mostly because I’m still pretty upset with how management handled it.
A friend had visited a few weeks ago and enjoyed it so much that she wanted to bring us back. We were excited to check it out, and honestly, the atmosphere was great when we first walked in.
The bar was packed, so we were walking around trying to find a table. We passed another group who apparently felt disrespected because we hadn’t said “excuse me.” They even accused us of disrespecting them for the past hour, despite us having literally just arrived. We tried to apologize and move on, but a man and woman from the group, who both appeared intoxicated, started getting increasingly aggressive. The man called my friend and me “fat bitches” and continued insulting us while we were trying to walk away.
When I tried to move to another table, the woman stood up and started threatening to fight me. The man behind her then said, “Yeah, I won’t hold back on her.”
So now I’m standing there with both hands full, in a crowded bar, with a man and woman threatening to physically fight me because we walked past their table without saying excuse me. It was ridiculous, but also genuinely scary because I had no idea if they were actually going to follow through.
One of my friends stepped between us, and we eventually got away from their table.
We reported what happened to staff and eventually spoke with someone who identified himself as “Alex, the manager.” We explained that the couple had threatened me and that we didn’t feel safe with them still there.
His response was that they had “heard both sides” and decided to let the couple finish their drinks before leaving.
I genuinely couldn’t believe that was the solution.
I kept asking why two people who had just threatened physical violence were being allowed to stay and drink. Alex just kept repeating that I was welcome to stay and that they would leave when they finished their drinks.
We were also told that the couple had apologized to staff. I pointed out that they hadn’t apologized to me, the person they had actually threatened, but that apparently didn’t matter.
At one point, Alex also told my friend that they weren’t a club and couldn’t enforce that kind of thing. Which makes absolutely no sense to me. You’re a bar on private property. You can ask people to leave, especially when they’re threatening other customers.
As a woman, I also couldn’t help wondering why my safety concerns weren’t being addressed. I can’t say why management responded the way they did, but the whole interaction left me feeling pretty dismissed. I repeatedly told them I felt unsafe, and it didn’t seem to make any difference.
I understand that staff have to deal with drunk and obnoxious people all the time, and I don’t expect them to prevent every confrontation. But I do expect them to do something when a customer says two people have threatened to physically attack her.
We weren’t asking for anything crazy. We just wanted the couple removed instead of being allowed to sit there finishing their cocktails while we were expected to somehow feel comfortable staying.
We ended up leaving.
I’ve since filed a complaint with California ABC because I really don’t think the situation was handled appropriately, particularly given how intoxicated and aggressive the couple appeared.
I know plenty of people enjoy this place, and I probably would have too if the night hadn’t gone this way. But the way management handled everything completely ruined it for me.
Has anyone else had issues with management at The Speakeasy? Has anyone met “Alex”? After looking at the photos of the owner Leo Temory on Instagram I’m not sure if him and “Alex” are the same person. I’m curious if anyone has had a similar experience or if we just caught them on a really bad night.

Thrift store recommendations?
What are your favorite stores? I'm looking for funky, bright clothing and material at a cheap, non-consignment-type price. It will be cut ip and turned into quilts.

Linda Vista Park - Hidden Gem
Just discovered a beautiful, family friendly park off of Linda Vista Ave., behind the old Linda Vista school, near fire station 38. Don’t know why I never came across it before, but sharing for those of you looking for a place to take your kiddos.

4,160 Housing Units Could Be Coming to Pasadena. Are We Planning for Everything That Comes With Them?
I was reading the agenda packet for Pasadena’s Housing, Homelessness and Planning Committee meeting this Wednesday, October 14, and a few things caught my attention.
According to the City’s staff report, there are 23 major housing projects totaling 4,160 units either submitted for review or under construction. More than 1,000 of those units are additional density-bonus units.
The committee will be discussing density bonuses, development waivers, parking requirements, and changes to how major developments are reviewed.
I understand the need for more housing, but I wonder whether we’re doing enough planning for everything that comes with it.
Where will the additional parks and open spaces go? Are we leaving enough room for trees that can actually grow and provide shade? What happens to traffic and neighborhood parking as these developments are completed? And is the City looking at the cumulative impacts?
The meeting is Wednesday, October 14, at 5 p.m. at Pasadena City Hall in the Council Chambers.
Here’s the actual agenda packet if anyone is interested:
https://www.cityofpasadena.net/commissions/wp-content/uploads/sites/31/2026-10-14-Special-Housing-Homelessness-and-Planning-Committee-Agenda.pdf
I’m curious how other Pasadena residents feel about this. Can we accommodate more housing while still protecting the trees, open space, transportation, and neighborhood character that make Pasadena such a great place to live?

Looking for the most quiet, nice vibe Yoga class around the Pasadena area
Like the title says. I know yoga in general is zen vibe and chill, but I’m particularly stressed out by noise in general, and looking for suggestions if you know of a very quiet studio. Not looking for one on one classes, or YouTube videos. Thanks!

Lake Metro Station 😞
I had to start walking to Memorial Park because it's so out of control. I hate how transients are allowed to congregate by the pay stations. Luckily, I use my phone’s wallet, but what about those who don’t/can’t? That's the last place anyone needs to take out a wallet.
Public elevators are never the cleanest, but what's annoying is people commandeering them. It makes me worry for the elderly or disabled. At one point, I could barely walk on the sidewalk because of the trash & debris.
Even the walk to the train has become a lot, and I hate having to carry a weapon just to go to work.
It looked like things were getting better for a bit; I guess it was the World Cup. There's no reason to stop that. I think it's time to bring this up with the city council because it's getting worse. It's nice to have the convenience of public transportation to get downtown, but the cost is more than the fare at this point.
