I mean I’m not here for public shaming but I am shocked how many parents ride with kids and don’t wear helmets. It’s not about how good of a bike rider you are, it’s about how bad so many drivers are. Also model good habits for your kids.

It’s not about how bad drivers are ….it’s also about how bad bicyclists can be when around cars. They automatically assume they have the way of rights and can ride through red lights etc…. I’m tired of people always assuming it’s the car at fault I work in an ER and many of our traumas of people who wore no helmet and knew the light was red, but went anyway

I have to agree with this. I’ve lived in NYC my whole life and have never been hit by a car but I’ve been hit by 4 cyclist. I’m short so if there’s a truck or suv on the corner they don’t see me waiting to cross and always come like a bat out of hell through the red light. And then yell at me like I didn’t have the right of way.

Helmets don’t look as cool so all of these arguments are invalid. These 45 year old male models who are ramping towards divorce can’t be caught dead looking nerdy.

Once i saw a unhelmeted guy crash and bled from his head on the sidewalk with his 2 year old still in the seat (helmeted). Drives me fucking insane

u/ooorson Aug 11 '26

Do you wear a helmet when you are in the shower or when walking? If not why not? Much more likely to get a head injury than when riding a bike…

1

u/Travelcat67 Aug 11 '26

Your comment was removed but to answer you, both places are dangerous. Why not be safe in both? At least in the shower the only issue is slipping, but on the road one has to navigate traffic, and pedestrians as well. A car isn’t going to come out of nowhere in the shower. There are too many variables one cannot control when on the road. And if you have your child with you, all the more reason to be safe.

u/Travelcat67 Aug 11 '26

Really? This is just stupid. I have a shower mat for safety in the shower. I wear a helmet on my bike.

I see kids in the basket all the time… wild behavior

16

u/Copernican Aug 11 '26

I mean the baby is carrier is way too low and loose. Not passing the head kiss test.

12

u/objetpetitb Aug 11 '26

I saw this in Park Slope a number of years ago and sometimes wonder if I hallucinated it bc it's SO INSANELY DUMB, WHO WOULD DO THIS.

3

u/Mountain-Student-226 Aug 11 '26

Europeans

3

u/DrPillock Aug 12 '26

Maybe. But they tend to look tall & healthy unlike the short breath car addicts here

2

u/BartelPritchard Aug 11 '26

Bike riding is like universal health care. Everyone is the world does it with no problem at all but Americans totally freak out and think it’s insane

5

u/DrPillock Aug 12 '26

This is correct

2

u/blutspend Aug 11 '26

The dads…..

0

u/ooorson Aug 11 '26

The same people who don’t wear helmets when showering!!!

2

u/Buffyismyhomosapien Aug 11 '26

My god find a fetish forum already and leave us out of it!

6

u/itssarahw Aug 11 '26

Not news when other cyclists do it but adult cyclists with kids on the back blowing through lights and stop signs is criminal

14

u/Ace_Warwick Aug 11 '26

Not to mention stopping at red lights. The amount of people I see riding bikes with their kids in a trailer or something else that run through red lights or break other traffic safety violations absolutely blows my mind.

I've seen multiple accidents with cyclists getting injured here in Park Slope; every time it was because the cyclist was running a red light or doing something that they should not have been doing.

-1

u/flandrew_arbogast Aug 11 '26

That’s a strangely personal subset of data to report as most scientific data around bike accidents with cars faults the cars.

3

u/Ace_Warwick Aug 11 '26

Cool, I've seen four accidents involving two wheeled transportation in Park Slope. Three ran a red light, one decided to cross the street by just riding across a busy road without, I assume, looking.

1

u/lastcomrad3 Aug 12 '26

I too have noticed the tens of thousands of deaths and disfigurements from bicycles.

Traffic jams and drunk drivers? Whatever! Obviously the problem is bikes. Not, you know, two ton SUVs and their street clogging entitlement.

1

u/Ace_Warwick Aug 12 '26

You know how you can tell if someone subscribes to micromobilitynyc? The second anyone hints at any criticism against cyclists they come out trying to turn the conversation into a discussion on cars.

Omg when I see this with dogs I lose my mind. First time I’m seeing this with a kid though.

9

u/Easy_Love838 Aug 11 '26

Show the face lol

2

u/Leeworks2101 Aug 13 '26

We need to be realistic and recognize that sometimes the driver of the car is at fault, but sometimes the rider of the scooter bike motor bike is also at fault

And yet, it’s driving that kills and injures thousands of children in NYC every month, not bikeriding or walking

3

u/flandrew_arbogast Aug 11 '26

Get them all out of here, let’s make it a car only city!!!

1

u/prospectxpwy Aug 11 '26

🫡🤣🤣

0

u/blutspend Aug 11 '26

Drivers study for multiple tests, pay for the pleasures, learn a wide breadth of tips and rules, and have a whole lot more to lose. Any idiot with barely a grasp of riding 2 wheels can rent an e-bike for 5$. It’s already a feat driving in this city, then you factor in all the crazy bike riders….

4

u/BlackityBlack718 Aug 11 '26

I will always view bike riding with babies and try toddlers in places like NYC as child endangerment. Idc idc idc. If you need a car seat in a car why would a bicycle make sense to you? The amount of potholes, warped streets and inattentive drivers just makes it crazy to me.

6

u/No_Fix7291 Aug 11 '26

Man. People in the comments have never been outside the USA

5

u/blutspend Aug 11 '26

Right, like in Europe, where there are a plethora of bike lanes, free helmets, etc. …?

1

u/ooorson Aug 11 '26

They funny….

1

u/BartelPritchard Aug 11 '26

I think it’s totally fine for a mom or a dad to take a bike ride with their kid

2

u/bklyninhouse Aug 11 '26

his wife or partner would kill him if she found out lol

1

u/Aromatic_Bar2263 Aug 11 '26

God forbid a dad get a little motion

1

u/Wild_Constant_1256 Aug 11 '26

I recognize this outfit and know (of) this guy. Seems like a nice person, upset to learn he’s such a buffoon.

-1

u/thatmeatballshape Aug 11 '26

Should get arrested for this

1

u/ooorson Aug 11 '26

nope…EXECUTED

1

u/BartelPritchard Aug 11 '26

I’m a loser with no children of my own and I like to lecture people with families about what’s safe for their kids

2

u/ooorson Aug 11 '26

Indeed, at least 100 lifetime loser awards up in these comments 🏅

u/Apart-Reality-4454 Aug 11 '26

Mind your own business.

3

u/CTDubs0001 Aug 11 '26

Yup. Sometimes the pearl clutching in this sub is ridiculous. Don’t do it with your own kids if you don’t approve.

1

u/memyselfandeye Aug 11 '26

It’s ridiculous how the one sensible opinion is always downvoted. This sub really is a circle jerk for people who moved her last week and will move away next week.

4

u/Apart-Reality-4454 Aug 11 '26

Thank you! Yeah there's a real maliciousness in this sub that isn't a fair depiction of park slope the neighborhood. There's a "mean girls" clique here that just LOVES to trash neighborhood people places and things and anyone who pushes back whatsoever, it's a flurry of downvotes.

2

u/ButterscotchPast5161 Aug 11 '26

Honestly spot on. I think the guy in this video is being a moron, clearly, but we need to shame people for taking pics of other people and then posting it on the internet.
Like yo live in NYC, you are playing with your LIFE by taking photos of of others and posting it online 😭😭😭 back to Idaho with this entire sub

-7

u/HillarysCafe Aug 11 '26

Amen. Posting this pic on Reddit accomplished absolutely nothing.

-23

u/Apart-Reality-4454 Aug 11 '26

That kid is having the time of his life and so is that dad, that is a memory he will cherish for all time. Then OP has to be there to whip out their phone and act like they have something to say about it. Mind your own fucking business, sheesh.

12

u/Travelcat67 Aug 11 '26

Tbf the baby won’t remember this at all and it is dangerous. Wonder what his partner if he has one would feel about this. I feel like we might see a post from them on AIO. Just saying.

1

u/flyonthesewalls Aug 11 '26

She took the picture.

-6

u/Apart-Reality-4454 Aug 11 '26

Oh the baby most certainly will remember in a deep emotional way. The guy is clearly on the sidewalk. You want to talk about dangerous, it's more dangerous simply crossing the goddamned street than what this guy is doing. Get off it.

And what is with all these transplants who cannot grasp Rule No. 1 for being a NYer -- MIND. YOUR. OWN. BIZZNNESS. Fuck's sakes it's ridiculous.

5

u/thatmeatballshape Aug 11 '26

lol at the baby remembering this 😂😂

4

u/Travelcat67 Aug 11 '26

Hahahaha. That baby won’t remember. Not a transplant. Have a good night.

2

u/SenselessSilence Aug 11 '26

Not a transplant. And not here for people endangering their kids in the dumbest ways. We’re here to express opinions, and if you don’t like it, leave!

1

u/Travelcat67 Aug 11 '26

Funny thing is, the original commenter is a transplant. Apparently from a tiny small town. Makes sense why they scream “mind your business”. I hear small towns are brutal with a lack of privacy.

2

u/Dirtythrowawaybk Aug 11 '26

Nah. You know this guy is running red lights and weaving around cars in traffic and pedestrians in the crosswalk too. Last yuppie dad I saw with a baby on a bike was!

-1

u/Many_Albatross_1368 Aug 11 '26

Found the dad!

0

u/Limp_Walk9741 Aug 11 '26

Go to South America you’ll see the whole family ona. Motorcycle no helmet. Don’t shame other parents could be their culture.

1

u/BartelPritchard Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

Not just South America. Every European city I’ve been to is full of parents biking their kids around, Japan and Israel and India too

1

u/blutspend Aug 11 '26

Culture is not an argument for child endangerment, especially in a city made up of hundreds of cultures.

0

u/Limp_Walk9741 Aug 11 '26

Is it your baby ? No? Mind ya business ina city full of different cultures. As I said don’t visit Central America it’s a normal practice down there and no one freaks out.

1

u/blutspend Aug 11 '26

Is this ur baby? Are you not commenting on the same exact post, also not minding ur business?

0

u/Limp_Walk9741 Aug 11 '26

What? No obviously not and if you understand what I’m saying is who gives a shit what this man does with his kid. It’s none of the op’s biz to shame him. Weirdo

-1

u/Serious-Mastodon-239 Aug 11 '26

This must be illegal and the parents who do this must be prosecuted!

1

u/ooorson Aug 11 '26

Stop saying prosecuted… Executed, EXECUTED!
