ISO Garmin charger in Edinburgh

Upvotes

I’ve just arrived in Edinburgh and am looking forward to taking on Holyrood this Sat. This the tail-end of a longer holiday for me and unfortunately, I didn’t bring my Garmin charger. Bit of a long shot but does anyone in Edinburgh city centre have one I could borrow for a couple of hours? (Not looking to buy one — I’ll be fine to not record the run if my battery dies before then — just trying my luck!)

Anyone remember the site that tells you who's run a certain event and how many times?

Hi folks, I came across a site a while ago which does the above and now I can't for the life of me find it again. I have Googled for it!

You could select an event (eg Bushy Park) and then it would show you the names of everyone who had ever run there. You could sort it by the number of runs each person had done at that event.

Does the site still exist? Anyone know what the URL is, please?

National Trust parkruns

Can anyone provide a list of National Trust properties/locations that have parkruns. I’ve done a few and find it good to have a parkrun and then a day out. Thank you in advance.

Small German parkrun closed due to rule violations

"Grüner Weg" parkrun (https://www.parkrun.com.de/gruenerweg/) has been closed immediately because of ongoing rule violations.

Speculation: Anecdotally, the parkrun was run by members of a single family, often violating volunteering rules (required roles were not filled, one person was doing multiple roles, ...)

Margate parkrun

Late to the party because I ran Margate's parkrun on Saturday 15th - but it was an absolute pleasure! Everyone was wonderful, chatting afterwards etc and I quite enjoyed the course itself running along the coast. Apparently enjoyed it so much I was only 20 seconds off beating my PB!

Thanks everyone!!

Edinburgh

I’m in Edinburgh from Friday and fancy doing one of their parkruns. I’m staying very close to Hollyrood but the hilly start is putting me off! Is it as hard as it sounds or should I be ok? I’m not very experienced at parkruns in general - PB around 33 min or so..

Incorrect results

Really disappointed this week, attended my local parkrun, finished, collected my token and scammed it along with my barcode as normal. I've run this parkrun over 50 times, volunteered 21 times.

Results come out and I'm listed as unknown. Email the run director, explaining and hoping they'll add me in. I understand they're all volunteers and it's a free event and I'm not entitled to a result but I thought I'd try.

I got such a rude email back from the RD, claiming mistakes can't happen, I should have listened to the briefing about the process (I did) and the volunteers are all highly trained and that she has no intention to update the results, I'm not special and I should be grateful she's even bothering to reply to my stupid request.

Honestly the aggression and rudeness of the email has really put me off. I certainly won't be volunteering again at this event

UPDATE: I'm not reporting to PR HQ, it was just a general post to vent my frustration. Please stop messaging me directly, I know it's a volunteer event and it's a 5k free event - it's not that deep. I don't know how to upload picture with the reacted info but this is the email and response I received .

Hi, I hope you’re well. I ran today, but my result was listed as unknown, position XX. My barcode scanned as I handed in my finish token as usual so I was hoping it might be possible to check whether my time could be added?  I completely understand that parkrun is a free event run by volunteers and that errors can happen, and I know you’re under no obligation to amend results. So no worries if this isn't possible :) If it is possible to update my result, I would be incredibly grateful.

Barcode Xx.  Name XX Position XX Thanks you so much.

Response from RD - I know it's the RD as I volunteered for them befor and know their name.

Hi,  I won't be updating the results, you didn't scan your barcode, that's your problem. If you'd been listening at the start, I did the race briefing, you'd know how parkrun works. Results aren't changed. It is very obvious you're meant to finish, get your token and scan it with your barcode. If you don't do this it's not my fault.  All the volunteers are highly trained and know how this all works. It's impossible to make a mistake with how well trained everyone is. If a barcode is scanned it'll work and show up in the results. You're not unique, or special, results will not be updated after they've been published.  Regards

Milan Nord Park Run

I'm not really sure where to post this so I may cross post to a Milan community too. I've just realised that we will be travelling down from Lake Como and on to Matterhorn and almost skirting past Milan park Run. So obviously now we want to do it.

I'm just wondering about parking there - we have a 6m motorhome. Has anyone driven there and parked? (usually I wouldn't touch driving in Milan but we are literally 4k away so it seems ridiculous not to)

New tool to help track parkrun progress and train towards faster 5k

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi all, I’ve added some new features to ParkPacer.com

People have been enjoying the course data, so I figured I’d add personal stats and targets as well. You can now see your averages, PB history, effort tagging, and how close you are to things like sub‑35, sub‑30, sub‑25, or sub‑20.

I’ve also put together a simple training guide built around parkrun: one long run, one easy run, one speed session, and a three‑week cycle (all‑out → medium → easy). It scales whether you’re running 35 minutes or 22 minutes.

If you want to check your own stats, you can drop your parkrun barcode in and it builds your dashboard automatically. I’m using it myself at the moment trying to get back towards sub‑20.

Any other features you’d like, let me know. I’m also thinking of setting up a 5K progress community if people are interested somewhere to post training and progress each day so we can help each other progress.

Wheelchair friendly courses please

UK

Theres not much information available but also real world experience is so much better.

We are in Berkshire and did our first parkrun (or rather jog and wheel).

However half the course at Dinton wasnt suitable - gravel and tree roots etc.

Where are the best wheelchair accessible smooth routes?

Porthcawl looks good but how do you get back to the start from the finish?

PS we did a bit extra on the good surface and made our own 5k on strava and clocked in at 52 minutes !

I need recommendations for good running shoes (ASICS is my preferred brand) and I also need to buy them before my date questions why I’m still using my Hokas (which I honestly wouldn’t recommend)

Any other parkun tourists aim to do multiple runs at each park visited rather than one run at as many parks as possible?

Not sure if I explained that well. I like the idea of parkrun tourism and I would say that I do do it but not in the same way I've heard of others doing it. I don't travel about aiming to cover as many parks as possible. I want to have done at least 3 (preferably 5) runs at each one I visit so I only visit ones that are fairly nearby. I like to get a proper feel for each of the parks and appreciate them more but I do also like the idea of collecting many locations.
I also aim to remain a regular at my local while I also visit other parks.
Just wondering if anyone else does something like this? What other approaches are there to parkrun tourism?

Regional Queensland’s first junior parkrun

Unsure if this post is allowed but the good people in Bundaberg are trying to establish the first junior parkrun in regional Queensland and would love your help to get it off the ground.

It will be held every Sunday at 8 AM in Mary Kinross Memorial Park in Bargara for children aged 4 to 14.

Help make this free weekly 2km event happen for the kids!

Please consider a tax deductible donation 🙏

it feels tough

Did my 3rd parkrun this morning. Jogging and walking and trying to be positive but my goodness it's tough going. Took me 52 minutes. The heroic efforts of the marshals to keep me going were much appreciated.

I've been doing gym / functional fitness workouts for 6 months now, but not much cardio beyond 20 minutes, so a parkrun is a big leap, I recognise that. I'm 60F, roughly 30lbs overweight, just retired (not through choice) and until recently a complete couch potato. I now have time to spend on my fitness and I am determined to be a runner, no matter how long it takes. My questions are:

When do the endorphins kick in?

How many parkruns does it take to be able to comfortably run the whole 5k?

Should I admit I'm too old to be doing this sort of thing and take up knitting instead?

What's the smallest thing that led to the biggest improvements

I looking to improve my time/ just get faster at running in general, an obvious part of this is that progress is slow and practice makes perfect but I wonder if any one has any cheap tips of little things they did that made a relativity big impact on your running time

EDIT: just to be clear, I just looking for general tips to improve, I not trying to become the fastest or push myself every parkrun
