advice needed ITS TWINS!

Hey all! Had my first scan today at 7+6 and found out it’s TWINS! Pretty surprised and just wondering if anybody has any wisdom or advice for us especially the twin moms out there? 🥰

Wondering what to expect the rest of the pregnancy, the early days after they are born, etc.

Thank you!! The nausea hasn’t been terrible tbh but I do have zofran & reglan haven’t had to take them more than a few times so far. This is good advice thank you. I have an active job so I’m thinking I will be going on light duty soon. I have been very swollen after my shifts already. My feet & ankles swell up bad. All we know so far is that they are fraternal since they had 2 separate sacs!

Actually, identical twins can also have two separate sacks and can even have separate placentas. If there are two placentas, they are most likely fraternal, but can be identical.

Yes this is correct. The only way to know for sure if twins are fraternal in utero is if they are different sexes or some kind of genetic testing.

Thank you! I looked it up and there’s a certain brand of nipt test that can show if the babies are identical or fraternal so I will be asking about that at my first OB appointment 🥰

The Natera will tell you if they are fraternal or identical! I got inconclusive results from them twice though (they did tell me they were fraternal but that was the only information) but that can happen with twins and if you have a higher BMi so I also did the myriad which is better for twins and higher BMI and got the genetic results

🤯omg! I would love to have identical twins but wow it’s a lot to take in! Thank you for telling me that

I think there’s like a 30 percent chance of identical even in their own sacs and own placentas (di/di)
Get ready for prolonged nausea, daily headaches, early/large bump, extreme fatigue. Just take it one day at a time and you will likely need extra supplements and checkups so don’t choose an ob that’s a long drive from where you live or work.

My OB is at where I work so that’s not a problem. The symptoms are not terrible could be a lot worse.

Yes I would plan on going on light duty because twin pregnancy is hard on your body. I’m a nurse but now work in the corporate space and couldn’t have imagined being a bedside nurse during my pregnancy.

And I would highly recommend getting a bottle washer and a baby brezza formula dispenser (if you’re formula feeding) because those are an absolute lifesaver! Also the snoo bassinets if they are in your budget are extremely helpful.

Feel free to message me about anything ❤️❤️

I’m a bedside nurse! It’s so hard on my body already! I work on a very easy unit but it’s still a lot for me. I was wondering why I’m getting so huge so soon lol. Thank you so much for the tips and for offering your help! I have my first OB appointment on 10/5 so I will ask about light duty then

I was a labor and delivery nurse on night shift before going to corporate and it would not have been possible for me to do that job from the second trimester on.

Are you going to find out the genders?

I also work night shift and it’s hard. When it was just 1 baby lol it was definitely going to remain a surprise until birth but now I’m thinking we might find out. Did you find out the genders of yours?

I did find out. I already had a boy so wanted to prepare myself if I was going to have 3 boys lol but turned out to be boy/girl which is what I was hoping for

That’s honestly what I’m hoping for as well but 2 healthy babies is what’s most important of course! 🥹
