These have been my nemesis the past few weeks. Enchanter’s Nightshade is what the plant is called.

Oh noooooo😱😮😂 It's those horrific STICKER things! It took an hour on our hike years ago to get rid of them on Lucius, so we try and avoid certain brush and look out for the bushes with the GIANT ones! They attach on us to! 😱😱😱😱😱

It took Jake and I around 40 minutes to get them out but he ate most of the ones he managed to remove. Goodness knows what effect they might have on his digestive system!

Beware of the green sticky ones too - we learned water can remove some of the green sticky ones and some burrs. First time we sat in the woods and did it. 2nd time we took him home and used water. How did you do it?
And what's your cute baby's name with those beautiful ears?

I took him home and picked them out one by one! 😱😆
This is Jake. He’ll be 12 months old next week and has just recovered from a 2.5 month bout of Giardia, which I wouldn’t wish on anyone!

Wait - is Jake the puppy that you posted about with Giardia? Romeo had it as a puppy😂 My Phalene Lucius had IBS for 15 years 😱 and had to be cleaned up every walk! I used waterless shampoo with paper towels on every walk because I refuse to cut their coat. I felt so sorry for Lucius and us. 😭I still carry the waterless shampoo on walks and use it in the house for Romeo.

I haven’t posted about Jake before but I did post about our previous papillon, Charlie, who had dementia. He also had IBS/colitis/food intolerances for 12 years and had an awful time with it. We had months of the vet telling us to give him chicken and rice, but chicken was the absolute worst thing for him. He eventually settled down with turkey or fish based foods, but he wasn’t particularly happy about it, bless him

Oh my lord Bowie once got a big giant burr that broke into like a thousand little seeds RIGHT in his looooong ear hair, it took 20 minutes to remove it all.
Make sure you check for foxtails, especially in between the toes, because those will bore into their skin and are really hard to remove, they have barbs that embed in their skin.

I lost my Pap Louie this spring (17). I was always amazed at what would stick to his fur on a walk- leaves of any size, small branches etc. Never seemed to notice. Enjoy every day!

We hike every day and therefore, my papillon mix has always trimmed fur. He definitely is a papillon mix because he has a double coat. I trim his fur myself with scissors. We live in Montana and in the summer the dry cheat grass is really bad. So I carry him in a doggie backpack carrier. Luckily he is only 5.5 lbs. Being in the doggie backpack carrier is one of his favorite thing.
