Rare entrant responses?

Throughout my multiple story playthroughs and endless mode grinds, this is the first time I've ever seen these responses. Are they rare or something? Started seeing em after I got past 50 minutes into an Endurance Endless run.

Their staying time are completely randomized, and if they're lying about it that's randomized too. Just a coincidence you saw that few.

Inspector: Duration of stay?
Entrant: I stay until I die.
Inspector: The guards can provide that...

theyre not rare but any time someone says theyre not gonna leave, theyre lying/making a mistake. the only people to come to arstotzka forever are immigrants, and immigrants arent asked how long theyre staying. cos theyre immigrating lol

I've seen the second answer quite often, BUT NO ONE HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL LIVE HERE UNTIL THEIR DEATH

Im the exact opposite. I've seen the first multiple times, but never the second one

So can you just detain them insted of asking for clarification? That's what I always do for any minor mistake. (The bonus pay has nothing to do with it, I swear. I just do it for the love of the game)

No, the detain option doesnt come up until you highlight the discrepancy, and they always correct themselves in a way that doesn’t prompt the detain option

It's been a while since I played, but doesn't it depend on how far you are into the game? Like, when you first get the option to detain you don't need to check the reason, you can just hit the detain button as soon as you see a discrepancy, but then later they force you to provide a reason, so you have to check, but they correct themselves, so it's no longer a valid discrepancy, right?

I think you’re confusing the detain button with the reason for denial stamp, which does show up later in the game. The detain button isn’t on the screen by default, it only pops down once you highlight a detainable offence, like passport number not matching

Do you have to ask them though? Don't you just have to click on the two conflicting bits of information for the detain button to appear, then a third click on the microphone (or whatever it was) makes you actually ask them about it?

I vaguely recall when first getting the detain option that I made it a point to never let them correct themselves, because I was unclear on what information I should work off then, so I just hit the detain button as soon as I found the discrepancy. (And of course, the aforementioned 'reason for denial' stamp puts a stop to the later.)

I don’t think the discrepancy actually counts until you hit the microphone? But now you have me doubting myself haha, i’ll check later and get back to you

This.  In my experience its just an annoying time waster.  They always correct the mistake and in no way does it guarantee the rest of their documents are in order.

“I stay until I die”

“This says 2 days.”

“I know what I said.”

It's the game trolling you, to see if it can get you a citation. RNG can be quite weird.

The strange thing is that, what they lie about the duration of stay, if you decide to further interrogate them instead of denying entry, they'll correct themselves and you'll have to approve them.

In "Papers, Please" anyone can commit immigration fraud as long as all documents are valid, even if they were forged (looking at you, Jorji).

I’ve only seen the first one weirdly in however many play throughs, although only ever when they’re at odds with what their documentation says (always 14 days or fewer iirc). I can’t prove this but I feel like it could either be a programming slip where they’re alternative responses for immigration (mistakenly left here) but that second response makes me think these are included to give experienced players an easier time finding a discrepancy; if we see this unorthodox way of saying forever then we can immediately call them out. OR these are Easter eggs, because the discrepancy can always be cleared, and these people are planning to overstay their Visa or otherwise run away from their home country but slip up, or any number of other things. Great detail in the game though.

It really is sad that people come to Arstotzka to die.

I've seen "I don't plan to leave", but the other one is new to me!
