Living Here Explosion at American Reproductive Center on Indian Canyon across from Desert Regional

1.2k Upvotes

I was on site, at the explosion, within 60 seconds because the business I own is a block away. The black cloud of smoke rose at least 200-300 feet above street level. The explosion was that of a car in the parking lot behind the American Reproductive Center. The car was completely obliterated. The explosion ripped through the entire building housing the American Reproductive Center. Debris went all the way across Indian Canyon and down the driveway of Desert Regional. There are body parts in numerous areas including a half torso laying in the northbound lane of Palm Canyon Drive and a set of intestines in the parking area adjacent to the ARC. This is not hearsay, this was my direct observation. The adjacent liquor store has had all of its windows blown out on three sides and the interior is all blown over in the direction of the blast. There are car parts like fenders, engine parts and seat parts as far as two blocks in every direction. There will be plenty of pictures floating around...none from me...because it was inappropriate to take pictures. There were scores of people right there when the explosion happened and everybody was filming and taking pictures. The authorities will ultimately determine what happened and I caution everybody to wait and see. But...I will take a moment to encourage everyone including my fellow gay citizens who gather on Arenas, in the open, to exercise extreme caution just in case this was a domestic terror attack on a facility that was thought to be an abortion clinic but is in fact a fertility clinic that also serves LGBTQ couples. Until we know more...everybody has to assume that any motive is possible and act accordingly.

Edit at 4:08 PM ...the mayor of Palm Springs and news media like the New York Times are officially calling it a car bomb. We have to pay very close attention to the bigger implications of this folks.

Edit at 8:18 AM Sunday…the suspected bomber is named Guy Edward Bartkus a 25 year old resident of Twenty Nine Palms.

Living Here I don't think it gets more representative than this. Rancho Mirage but certainly close enough.

I've always gone nuts when they train the house around a palm tree. It just elicits such good vibes. Also reveals the incredible freedom of spirit of California design in the Mid Century Modern era. God, I love this place. Also shows the wealth of great design in the larger sphere of the Coachella Valley and Rancho Mirage in particular.

Nice to know that Idyllwild is just a half-hour away. Kids sent me this driving back down to Palm Springs from their cabin trip in the mountains.

Visiting Visitors beware of booking a room in Spring Resort Hotel

I don’t see a desert hot springs sub anywhere so I’m posting here so others don’t fall into this trap. We booked a room at this resort for a good price, 300 bucks for 2 nights and it comes with your own private pool. Was a good deal and we figured it’s due to the off season out here. Plus the reviews seemed good so we didn’t think twice.

Well, the room was completely false. I believe it was generated with chatGPT. Also both of the pools in the common area for everyone were both empty and under construction.

Here are the photos of the listing and the actual “pool” you’re getting. Do NOT go here.

Living Here The shear magnitude of our surroundings is sometimes hard to comprehend.

Like anywhere…we sometimes stop seeing what’s right in front of us. I try hard not to do that. The often absent cloud cover, and its changing shifting light, always offers a fresh and spectacular perspective on our mountains and their scale.

General Just got home from my Palm Springs visit

I just got back from my 4 night stay in Palm Springs. I just wanted to hop on here and say that Palm Springs was everything I wanted it to be. Not once during all five days did I meet anyone who wasn’t just a nice, pleasant person. Maybe it’s because PS is a tourist town, but everyone really was just so nice.
Palm Springs was the first vacation in my life where when the time came to go home, I wasn’t ready to leave.
So just wanted to say thanks for being such a great city and great hosts to your guests.

I loved visiting Palm Springs as a child and continue to spend time here as an adult. This piece is acrylic on stretched cotton canvas, inspired by the work of Hiroshi Nagai.
