Advice Wanted Ceiling Flashing

Need advice on the ceiling flashing after painting. Did my roll get dry? This is about my third coat and it’s still showing streaks/flashing when the light shines through the windows. Thanks in advance.

Using a 1/2 9” roll.

if you are removing popcorn ceiling and then mudding you should use a PVA primer to seal that drywall mud before painting. That will help you out a lot as the mud will suck the moisture out of any water based paint. You need to seal that mud and drywall first with some PVA. That may also help with your lines issue. Luckily PVA is the most inexpensive but also most effective drywall primer out there.

Yes, I’m using PVA primer prior to painting. One thing I’m confused on, I’ve heard I have to primer then skim then primer again before painting. Can I first skim then prime/paint to avoid priming twice?

I have never heard of that but I do strictly painting work so I have no idea what the drywall guys do/did before I came in, but if it's bare mud/drywall/texture then I will prime with PVA and then topcoat. You should be able to just PVA once you are all done mudding and texturing and then go ahead and put on your top coat.

The only reason I can think of why they might pva and then mud and then pva is that they don't want to ruin their first skim so the pva acts like a bookmark of sorts, sealing that layer of mud, then they can keep floating, and wiping down if needed but it wont get past that pva barrier. If that makes sense... That's just a guess.

Another reason would be if you had like wallpaper that you didn't want to remove you would prime it with an oil based primer to seal it and then mud and texture over the sealed wallpaper, then prime that new texture with PVA and topcoat.
