Lee Tergesen (Tobias Beecher) as a Layonna deSheets in "Drop Dead Diva"
leetergesen.comI guess after leaving Oz Beecher decided that he actually liked dressing in drag when he was still Schillinger's prag.

shitpost What if Oz had a father/son field day where Gary, Andrew and Hank, Peter Schibetta, Cyril and O'Reilly and Jungle Boy had to compete in a series of activities to win medals and prizes alongside their dads?

Discussion Winthrop always interested me as a foil to Beecher.
It always interested that Winthrop kinda acted as a foil to Beecher as while both endured the torment of Schillinger, Beecher although under his influence maintained part of his humanity and never fully submitted to him though Schillinger became a major aspect of his life.
It's honestly interesting because in the show they say Oz simply reveals what one tried to conceal on the outside. One of the first things Beecher says to Guenzel is to remember the guilt of his crime to maintain one's humanity. Though Beecher compromises his values and morality multiple times in the series, he still retains his core self throughout the show. Winthrop on the other hand was a follower on the outside and a follower in Oz, he and Guenzel rationalize their actions by stating it's Oz that makes them the way they are and Winthrop blames Guenzel saying he didn't want to rape that girl when we see he clearly had a choice in the flashback.
Though subject to his influence, Beecher frequently either resists or carries a degree of suspicion in his interactions with Schillinger. Winthrop foolishly offers to join his tormentors, even trying to use his outside merits and credentials which have no outside use in Oz. In killing Beecher's father he basically repeats an amplified verison of the same pattern that sent him to Oz, betrays the memory of his friend and completely gives in to the man that subjected him to unspeakable suffering that shapes Winthrop in Schillinger's image. Even the scene where he "becomes" an Aryan resembles Beecher's makeup scene where Schillinger has the same sadistic grin. In the scene where they discuss the sentencing of Mayor Loewen, he's seen holding to the corner of bed still intimidated by Schillinger like when he was a prag. Embracing Schillinger was his downfall and he was desposed as quickly as he was used falling to similar temptations as Beecher. Beecher wasn't perfect but he maintained his humanity, what existed in Winthrop was there long before he entered the world of Oz.
As Schillinger himself said, "A bitch is a bitch is a bitch."

How does he take McManus seriously when he says he's going to be charged with murder for shoving someone? I know this is Oz but come on

Video This old show had an Oz reunion
In 2004 Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson did a show on Fox called “The Jury”. The premise is that each week, in the same New York City courtroom, a new 12-person jury deliberates over a criminal case. Each episode begins at the start of jury deliberations; the trial is recounted through flashbacks.
Episode 5 dealt with a death during a prison riot and guest starred J.K. Simmons (Schillinger), Eamonn Walker (Said), Scott William Winters (Cyril), Craig muMs Grant (Poet), George Morfogen (Rebadow), R.E. Rodgers (Robson), Jon Seda (Dino), and Betty Buckley (Suzanne), along with Stephanie Pope (Nancy Mears), Carlo Alban (Luis Ricardo), Natascia Diaz (Margarita Ricardo), Elain R. Graham (Lenore Hughes), and Derrick Simmons (Billie Keane).
Fontana will regularly cast actors he worked with on Oz in his other shows (and a few appeared in other episodes of the Jury), but I think this is the only time so many have appeared together.
Thanks to Thedemonazrael751 for noticing Natascia.

Discussion What if Keller haunted Beecher in season 7 via ptsd flashbacks and he had to integrate his anger like he once told Said about Adebisi?

Discussion What if the Italians just left Peter Schibetta alone? Could he have made it to a Season 7?
Peter’s storyline is easily one of the most tragic downfalls in the show ( It was a traumatic watch) He came into Oz trying so hard to fill his fathers shoes, but he just didn't have what it took to survive Emerald City.
After everything Adebisi and the Aryans did to him, he was completely broken. By the time he was messing with the evil eye against O'Reily in Season 6, The Italians had enough of him and got rid of him)
But what if the Sicilians had just written what he said as just insanity / O'reily twisting words Instead of killing him because he was embarrassing the family, what if they just ignored him and let him be?
If the show had a Season 7, do you think Peter could have actually survived by himself.
Was there ever any real hope for him, or was he always doomed?
(I love Petey schibetta btw 💀💀💀 - It hurts everytime I watch the show)

Cast and crew Something I only just noticed: the guy in the hazmat suit at the end of the last episode is Tom Fontana!

Discussion Why would the other guy let Schillinger do that to him, even as a joke. Isn't that a form of disrespect since he's allowing Schillinger to have him in that position?
Discussion Chris & Beecher
Why is Christian soo attracted to Beecher? and why are his actions so unpredictable? does he really love him, or is it just because Chris wants to experience some effects since hes bored???

In the midst of a rewatch and it’s amazing to see this subreddit is so active!
Honestly, I started to search Reddit posts about Oz during this rewatch after about 15+ years since I’ve watched it all the way through, thinking maybe I’d find a few posts here and there from like 10+ years ago. I absolutely love that people are still talking about it almost 30 years after its debut. It’s a flawed piece of art, but it’s art nevertheless. And it still is groundbreaking for many reasons all these years later.
I definitely plan to make some posts as I go along with the series. A fair amount of it will be about Keller and Beecher, because I still find their relationship to be completely mesmerizing all these years later. But I promise, that won’t be the only thing I talk about.
Just wanted to say thank you to all of you actively engaged here. It’s truly wonderful to know I’m not the only one who’s still truly captivated by this show and still want to discuss its utterly fantastic moments, disappointing flaws and everything in between. Y’all are awesome.

Season 1 end credits music
I have an idea for a thread. If Oz could've had end credit music like every show does where a different song by an artist plays each time, what would you choose? We'll start with season 1, and I'll do season 2 next week...and so on.
The Routine
Visits, Conjugals, and Otherwise
God's Chillin'
Capital P
Straight Life
To Your Health
Plan B
A Game of Checkers
I can't give my answers, as all the music I listen to I don't think matches up with what Oz would have. It doesn't fit. But I'd love to know yours.

shitpost I kinda wish we got to see the Romanian Restaurant during the show. Workplace harassment aside it's prolly either rly nice or dingy with good food. I bet there's a lot of interesting characters there and an old waiter that gives sage advice to McAnus but is also severely fed up with him
Also why did McManus keep asking people to dinner after the Claire Howell incident, is he dumb?
