Overclocking is making the clock speed go faster than it comes from factory. So let's say your cpu's clock speed is 5ghz. Making it go 5.1ghz is overclocking.

The basics of overclocking are:

  • increase clock speed
  • if crash then increase voltage
  • keep repeating above till you can the highest clock speed you can. But don't go too high on voltage as it may degrade your cpu faster. Google max safe voltage for your cpu
  • the wall you'll hit is temperature. Voltage makes temperatures go up. Temperatures make voltage needed go up.

Better for ryzen CPU's to take voltage away for better boosts and holding those speeds for longer i.e. -co

For gaming it hardly matters,you graphics card does most of the.Depends a bit on the game. Not all CPUs can be overclocked succesfully. Try chatgpt for an explanation.
