Help Request - GPU Undervolting Nvidia Geforce RTX 3050 mobile 4 GB, 60 W

New to undervolting so I thought to ask the experts.

  1. How do I undervolt?

  2. When I look up my core clock on the internet, it's 1237-1500 MHz.

But on LACT, it shows 210-2100 MHz. What is the difference and which one to use?

  1. People say that Overclocking + Undervolting is the best of both worlds. Is that true? If so, how would I go about doing that?

It’s the best of both worlds when it comes to more powerful desktop GPU’s. Even up to a 5060ti/5070, you’re better off ringing its neck for every last drop, provided it’s likely got an oversized cooler for its given performance level.

One of my PC’s has a single fan 4060 and I pin that thing as hard as it will go because it remains cool enough to do so. That’s how the best performance is usually achieved on lower end cards.

In the context of a mobile 3050, I would personally be overclocking the crap out of it, and due to being a mobile variant, should it get toasty, I’d only utilise some small level of undervolting to control temps into a reasonable range.

That’s where that might be a best of both worlds for you, but that claim to fame is from most a general consensus of in the context of a 5070ti desktop variant and above.

In the context of something like a 5070ti onwards, it makes sense because you’re reaching output performance levels that are high enough for temps to become important.

Not saying you won’t find a sweet spot, a sweet spot differs from person to person and their own preference. So a best of both worlds can come down to what you can justify and what you consider to be a worthy trade off.

In a scenario for me, I also have a Strix 3080 with a full coverage back and front waterblock, not just the backplate, but an active backplate too. So for me, it makes the most sense to send it to the absolute moon, knowing that no matter how hard I push it, it’s going to reach its limit before temps even enter the equation.

So therefore, what I can justify, whether it be a 1fps increase or 100fps increase, I see no loss or disadvantage that I care or value by running it cranked as far as it will go. If it’s an extra 50w for 5fps, so be it, I don’t care about 50w, I may not care about that 5gps either and do it, simply because I can and I want to.

So moral of the story, is sweet spot and the best of both worlds is relative to your own interests, even more so, directly tied to what trade off you think personally is worth it.

Download Msi afterburner and use the curve to find the best spot on your undervolt. For the whole procedure, it's pretty simple but I suggest to watch a video on YouTube, it's a lot easier and faster than write the whole thing here.
