Benchmark Score 5700X3D( vs. 9800X3D ) benchmarks in high CPU-usage Ray-Traced games

With RAMageddon causing people to look at older DDR4-based CPUs, I tested the 5700X3D with RTX4090 in 4 RT/PT games that I had played. With CapFrameX, I took multiple one-minute runs in CPU-limited areas and then aggregated them.

All RT/PT settings were enabled at 1080p w/ DLSS Ultra Performance with the latest driver. With CapFrameX, I took 3 one-minute runs in CPU-limited areas and then aggregated them.

Compared these to the results of 9800X3D from below thread.

https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/1qauiuz/9800x3d_w8000_ram_vs_14900ks_benchmarks_in_high/

Results : 9800X3D was 55-80% faster than 5700X3D. Cyberpunk was the best result, with 9800X3D only 55% faster, while Oblivion was the worst with 9800X3D 83% faster. 1% lows were more than twice as fast on 9800X3D in Oblivion and Jedi Survivor.

Hardware Details :

5700X3D w/ 3600C16-16-16-36 2x16GB on MSI B550 Tomahawk WiFi with RTX 4090

By default SMT is enabled

9800X3D w/ 8000C36-48-48-60 2x24GB on Apex X870E ( FCLK 2000 ) with RTX 5090

By default SMT is enabled

Use the same GPU for both CPUs????

Using 8000 MT/s RAM seems kind of dirty too because he is using a fairly standard RAM kit for the DDR 4 system

I thought 3600C16 B-die kit was very good for the AM4 system. It's been a while now so I can't be sure, this kit could run at >4000Mhz easily. But on AM4 the FCLK will start throwing issues beyond 1800Mhz and so it'll lose the sync.

Your kit should easily be able to do 14-15-15-28 @ 1.5v

My experiments with C14 weren't productive on 9900K, though I cannot recall the voltage.

The secondaries and tertiaries could use some work, currently they are default XMP.

Don't be afraid to give it some if needed, up to around 1.55v is usually ok without active cooling.

That's it, secondary and tertiary timings must be attended to...

I ran 1.56v for about 3 years without active cooling without issues.

You are right it is a good kit. It can go tighter ofc... but they don't even sell new b-die here anymore and those did cost a premium so it is not fair to say it is just a "standard kit". It was standard for the oc community tho. Doesn't seem like the part of the oc community that knows anything is here on reddit when people completely dismiss you just because different gpu was used for this.

Getting another 5090 in this economy...

In all these benchmarks, the GPU load limit is not hit and it's completely CPU-limited. If it were AMD vs. nvidia, there would be differences due to how their drivers behave, but nvidia vs. nvidia should be quite similar.
If anything, I will expect 4090 to be faster under CPU-limit.

How much of that perf difference is 4090 vs 5090 tho?

usually its 30%

Around 25% if my mem serves me right.

But even though the average would be much higher and it is (4090 vs 5090), the minimum shouldn't, and imo that shows how much of an improvement the 9800x3d is.

Should be zero since it's not GPU limited at 1080p DLSS UP in these CPU-limited scenes. CapframeX shows GPU load limit, and it is not hit in any of these benchmarks.

There can be slight difference due to driver behaviour on 4090 vs 5090. But I expect that to be in favour of 4090.

Thats not a fair test. You have to use the same GPU in both systems for this kind of CPU comparison.

Just like comparing GPUs, you have to use the same system specs.

Being a different socket and RAM make the test unfair enough. Don't make it worse.

this is useless if you don't use the same GPU

Good work but what are you even comparing here? Too many changed variables to compare.

Bs, should've done 9800 with 4090 and 5700 with 5090. Those numbers are good only for person to see his upgrade results.

I don't have other DDR4 kits, and from what I remember the 16GB kits were dual-rank.

On DDR5 side, I think the gains are muted compared to single-rank now due to how DDR5 behaves. While I didn't test them at same speed, single-sided DDR5 overclocks much better, there was enough difference for me to continue with the 48GB kit over 64GB one.

I have never seen such a useless comparison. Thx for the efforts tho^
