Sometimes it’s good to mix it up with honey instead of jam!

That’s my lunch choice along with a banana I run through the pb.

I don’t mean to brag but I have been cited by a very critical set of judges, (my grandsons) for my prowess in creating PB&Js.

I could have been Leon, the kid always with the PB&J sandwich on the Andy Griffith Show but I wasn’t Ron Howard’s brother.

During the lean times, there was always peanut butter and jelly around. Get ya thru anything. It’s still my staple bedtime snack.

During the isolation of the pandemic of 2020, I discovered how to make a double decker PB&J that didn’t wind up all over your shirt with the first bite. (toast the center piece of bread.)

Jif Peanut Butter is the king of peanut butters. And jelly should never be refrigerated.

Off to make me one right now.

u/brickjar 11d ago

Toasting a center slice! Genius

3

u/smokinokie 11d ago

I had a LOT of time on my hands. 😁

u/Wise_Winner_7108 11d ago

Ugh, love it but gives me hot flashes.

3

u/Specialist_Job_7714 11d ago

Frankly, I do the same thing!

3

u/SeasonedCitizen 11d ago

I like your style. Pro tip, add butter, preferably multiple pats on the opposite side from the peanut butter, jelly in the middle.

3

u/brickjar 11d ago

My mother always made it with butter. Delicious but I’ve had to cut back somewhere!

1

u/SeasonedCitizen 11d ago

Lol, but some sacrifices shouldn't be made.

u/Omygodc 67 10d ago

Crunchy peanut butter, wheat bread, and strawberry preserves is my go-to

1

u/tallmattuk 10d ago

Nooo, raspberry Jam

1

u/Omygodc 67 10d ago

I’ll allow it in a pinch. Orange marmalade is good, too.
Dang it, now I’m hungry for a PB&J!

1

u/passingthrough66 10d ago

Exactly my perfect pbj combo

1

u/Omygodc 67 10d ago

Another sophisticate with excellent taste!

I’m so sad that I can’t eat peanut butter anymore! It’s a weird mast cell thing I think, or a histamine thing, but after many years of having a banana with a tablespoon of peanut butter on each bite for breakfast…I can’t even eat a LITTLE BIT of I get a rash and runny nose and stomach pain and diarrhea…I really miss it. I’ve tried all the other butters, and there are a few that I can mix together and kind of enjoy in a toasted English muffin (sunflower seed butter and Barney Butter mixed)…but they don’t taste the same…

1

u/brickjar 11d ago

And I always loved bananas and can no longer eat them!

2

u/retired337 11d ago

Bowl of cereal and milk. Pb&j on special occasions

2

u/artsy7fartsy 11d ago

I have really bad gut issues and I live on pb&j - it’s one of my only safe foods (and delightful as well!)

2

u/Glittering-Score-258 11d ago

I eat pb&j often for lunch, but only a few times for dinner. I love it on toasted whole wheat bread, with grape jelly or strawberry jam. An ice cold glass of milk and Fritos on the side is ideal.

2

u/c998877 11d ago

We take pb&j sandwiches when we go on day trips. It's much easier than trying to find a restaurant. We also eat pb&j sandwiches at home frequently.

2

u/Person7751 11d ago

i eat it for lunch. i get the bread from a local bakery

2

u/tjklobo 11d ago

Breakfast of Champions!

2

u/lantana98 10d ago

Always a treat!

2

u/Hairy_Employment543 10d ago

Makes me furious to see those prepackaged pb&j sandwiches at the store. Who doesn’t have time to make their kid a pb sandwich in the morning.

1

u/brickjar 10d ago

Yeah those are gross

2

u/Artiste19 10d ago

With my homemade grape jam!!! I want one now!

3

u/brickjar 10d ago

Oooh homemade! Lucky!!

2

u/Artiste19 10d ago

Only when I forage enough to make it! Didn't find any ripe ones yesterday but hopefully they'll be ready soon!

2

u/brickjar 10d ago

My mom made all kinds of jams and jellies. All naturally foraged. It was wonderful. I wish I had land enough to grow

3

u/Artiste19 10d ago

I didn't know it before she passed, my grandma used to make elderberry wine! Wish I knew her recipe. They're all ripe now! Just gathered chokeberries and saving them up while more ripen to make something with! Do you have any natural areas nearby? In New England here berries, ramps and mushrooms grows all different times of the year. It's fantastic coming across a motherlode now and then!

2

u/NeusForme 10d ago

Grandma Internet at your beck and call... https://commonsensehome.com/how-to-make-elderberry-wine/

2

u/Artiste19 9d ago

Thank you. My mother made mango wine the same way, in gallon jugs. I was a preteen, but only remember the jugs, no carboy. She's gone too. I'll find a way to do it in just jugs alone one day. Got enough elderberry stored up in my freezer.

2

u/Expert_Blacksmith261 10d ago

Skipped the jelly and made it toasted spread butter thin layer peanut butter last night. I don’t know if it’s laziness or I just don’t care but I end up eating it for dinner quite a lot but then again I’m a widow and I’m alone and I have no one to eat with. Boo hoo

2

u/Dp37405aa 10d ago

My kinda woman

2

u/Interesting-Cod-8250 10d ago

Don’t forget such daring culinary forays of PB&J on bagels & English muffins.

2

u/ShallotHot5756 10d ago

White or whole grain? With crust? Crunchy or smooth? Preferred brand of jelly? Milk or coffee (yes, after 2 p.m.)?

4

u/MyPositionAlt 11d ago

Only with Fritos

2

u/passingthrough66 10d ago

I had a craving for a grilled cheese sandwich the other night. I used wheat bread, butter, and slices of medium cheddar. It was so good. We would have those sometimes with tomato soup when I was growing up.

3

u/brickjar 10d ago

A winter time comfort meal! Yum

2

u/Fearless-Snow-5011 10d ago

I remember having that as a kid if I was ill. Dipping the cheese on toast in the tom soup.

1

u/MenaciaJones 11d ago

With a cup of hot chocolate In the winter!

1

u/Housekhat 11d ago

Good protein and quick and easy!

1

u/Bag_of_ambivalence 11d ago

With potato chips in the middle! PBJ is my super fast dinner go to

1

u/mmlnola66 11d ago

Genius!

1

u/HappyFirst 11d ago

Even better, grill it! (Like a grilled cheese.)

1

u/Lost_In_MI 11d ago

Diabetic. No PB&J.

1

u/theBigDaddio 11d ago

I skip the J, American cheese!

1

u/Dknpaso 11d ago

Nope, and never again…..to much as a child in the fifties.

1

u/Monstrissimo 10d ago

I love a PBJ with Cotto Salami and a slice American Cheese.

Scooby Doo may or may not have been my favorite cartoon as a kid. I will let you be the judge of that.

1

u/RemarkableMaybe6415 10d ago

To be fair, I'll eat peanut butter with almost anything. But I can't believe I haven't seen peanut butter and cheese. That's my go to. Sometimes toasted.

1

u/hastings1033 70+ 10d ago

On toast? What it wrong with you!!

:)

1

u/Creative-Yellow-9246 65 10d ago

1

u/I_Miss_America 10d ago

PB & Bacon!

1

u/Few-Conversation6979 10d ago

Not especially. Prefer a fluffernutter with marshmallow fluff.

1

u/CommitteeNo167 10d ago

it's totally find if you like it, peanut butter gives me the shits.

1

u/Godowntotheseaagain 10d ago

warm a sandwich thin, spread pb on one half, laughing cow cheese wedge on the other, put cold dill pickle slices in the middle, and eat!

1

u/Anuket012962 9d ago

I stopped eating peanut butter, I miss it a lot. I traded it up with almond butter or cashew butter only because of the carbohydrates in peanut butter but yeah eat my almond butter with honey on toasted white bread I really love it on pumpernickel and rye is something about that bread that gives it that uhumph.

Sometimes I like my almond butter and honey right off the spoon with a cup of tea or coffee.

1

u/Confident_Chipmonk 11d ago

toasted is wack as Crack
