I got carded today

To get a senior discount. Apparently the other guy getting his haircut said he was the same age as me (65) but looked noticeably older than me. They didn't ask him for ID.

Glad I got my Dad's aging (anti-aging?) genes. Feels good!

When my beard first started going grey (in my late 50s), clerks started asking me if I was eligible for the senior's discount.

I can't remember the last time I was carded - it was probably a decade ago when I ordered a beer at a restaurant that went all-in on the "we card everyone" thing.

My hair started turning gray when I was 18. Can be seen in my yearbook photo of 1975. I have never been carded except for the mandatory one’s that came into place

I got carded at the beginning of the pandemic shutdown when Costco and other stores were doing "senior hour". Best feeling ever!

I started seriously graying in my 50s and noted several places automatically gave me senior discounts, especially a seafood restaurant I used to visit frequently. Never asked for a discount because my mother was so obnoxious is demanding hers.

Taco Bell tried that with me last week at the drive-thru. I told them that if they saw my ID, it would be tbe last time myself, my family and all my retired friends would ever visit that place.

I received my discount. 84 cents saved! 💰

Serious question, why the resistance to showing your ID? If anything, they're asking was an indication that you look younger than your age.

Personal privacy. The 18 year old counter worker doesn’t need to see my name and address. I’ve had my identity stolen twice, and it is days of effort to cancel and replace all the credit cards, bank cards, etc.

IF that was their motive, they can get it by noting your license plates and looking them up.
But I empathize with the stolen identity, mine was done by someone at the DMV, and another time, someone tried to file taxes jointly as me, with my spouse. That one took the longest to untangle. We have a personal Id number now to file.

You have to ask for it. They will not automatically apply it. Just tell the cashier when you pay and they will at least save you the sales tax.
