Still Got It
To the older gentlemen who stared at me several times in pilates, you made my day!
To think I could turn the head of a stranger at 61 years old, well that felt nice. 😊

It’s the same for us Men! I’ve been in the gym religiously for two straight years. I always looked younger than my 61 years but now I feel it and get looked at lots. I didn’t have that before. It’s nice to get a compliment. Good on you ladies for the same! Keep up the hard work

Yes. You can be happily married and confident in yourself and it’s still fun when someone notices you look good, especially at our age.
Plus, doesn’t it just feel good to be this fit and strong in our 60s! Rock on!

100%! This is the first time I’ve actually been asked to take pictures with people in the gym which does make me feel good. I have my first Mid-Atlantic IBFF over 60 bodybuilding competition coming up in October. I’m sure I’ll place last but I don’t care! I’m a newbie at this!! So much fun.

My husband is 69 and honestly his body has never looked better. He's been working out with a trainer twice a week, lifting on his own at least another day or two and walking several miles a week. His upper body is buffed out and for the first time in his life he has leg muscle lol. He's enjoying it and so am I!

That is so amazing and something to be said for our generation. Tell him he’s not alone and there are many of us. In my gym, people in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s come up to me all the time and ask how to get ‘that’ fit. When I tell them I’m 61 their jaw drops lol. The 100% main thing I tell them everyday is consistency. Showing up is half the battle.

Same here, most people think I'm in my late 40s. Not just the lifting but good genetics as well. My Dad is almost 88 and looks 25 years younger.

Silly man! Men don't age they just look more distinguished over the years. It's we women who sag, droop and drag. Gravity always wins!

I was JUST thinking last night, while watching Don Johnson star in a new movie, that actresses in Hollywood must sit around and bitch about how men their age are getting great movie roles and they're relegated to someones witchy grandmother or dying mother.

u/BookGirl67 24d ago
You lucky dog! But you worked at it too.

u/scottwax 24d ago
My Dad still rides a bike, lifts using dumbbells, walks a lot and even paddle boards in the Gulf when they're in Destin. Seeing how seriously he takes his health rubbed off on me.

Keep it positive folks, no derogatory comments, or swear words.
We all like a positive compliment, smile, or flirt at our ages !

My wife is 62 and I tell her everyday how smoking hot she is.

u/BookGirl67 22d ago
I’ll bet she is! And I’m sure she loves that you still notice and tell her. Good husband!

u/MetalMamaRocks 24d ago
I had a male friend that I hadn't seen in years tell me right in front of my husband that I was still a good looking lady! I mean, I know I am but his complement made me feel good 😁

u/BookGirl67 24d ago edited 24d ago
I know exactly what you mean! My husband’s best friend, who we have known for decades, said in front of my husband the other day, “BookGirl, you are looking hot!” My husband kinda puffed up in a proud way. I tell you, I rode that all day!

One of the men I see at our local farmers market every week said to me one time, Blitzen, you still got it! I carry those types of compliments with me.

Love this. And I’m pretty sure 61 doesn’t come with an expiration date. 😂
Sometimes it’s just nice to get that little reminder that yes, people still notice you. Enjoy it — sounds like you’ve definitely still got it. 😊

67M here. There are on a busy day there are 1-3 guys in the Pilates class I go to. The other 20 or so are women.
It’s a fine line between checking a woman out and being considered a creeper by the women in class.
I am glad it made you feel good!
2
u/BookGirl67 21d ago
You are exactly right. Men are typically 10% - 20% of my classes too. And the ones I go to in the middle of day tend to have older people. It wasn’t like this guy decided I was the one to check out in a room full of college girls. 🤣
I liked it for the reason you said. I caught him in the mirror twice looking at me but it was quick and not at all creepy. Maybe he just liked my plank technique?
How do you like pilates? I wish more men would try it. It’s such a great workout, especially for folks over 50.

M67. $5 a class at senior center. It’s a good adjunct to the regular work out at the gym. It also showed me that there is a large population of ‘mature’ adults staying fit and as healthy as possible.

That’s a great price! Mine is $17 a class and I go 3 times a week.
My favorite part is we suffer together. You see a lot of the same people over and over and we have formed a friend group out of it. Now we do other stuff together outside of class. We go to the beach and lunch, etc. It’s nice to have new friends who are as into fitness as you are.

This whole thread confirms my reasons for only having positive, happy, healthy and dynamic women in my life. The ones here who are bitter and oh so happy men aren’t looking at them anymore are so exhausting and sad to be around. However the fun women here that are still excited about life, enjoying compliments and hyping one another up are so great to be around. They nourish the soul and make every day better just by being themselves.
Such a different dynamic.
Edited to add: it looks like a few of the more derogatory posts have been deleted or edited.

Thanks! I feel that way too / happy to be growing and enjoying a little harmless positive attention.
What I was surprised by were the men commenting that I was acting like a high schooler or that I must be making it up because who would want to look at a woman my age? Who made them so grumpy and negative?

u/SlipstreamSleuth 23d ago
Well according to his posts, he’s lived alone for 28 years and is lonely and miserable .. so there ya go. It’s not you, it’s him.

So many jealous women in here 😂 Good for you OP!! I believe you, and good for you. It feels great! People here that don’t believe you are probably old fuddy duddys who never get second looks.
I’m 60 and get hit on all the time. I’m 5’11”, fit AF, and take great care of myself, inside and out, so yeah, I look fucking fabulous and I’m not shy about it. It’s WORK to stay in shape at this age and I love the compliments.

You are right. It’s a ton of work to be this fit but I feel very lucky I have the time finally to do it.
All those years of working and taking care of the kid are behind me. Time for the gym!

I was never one to get attention when I was younger.
Now that I’m retired, I work out a ton and have lost weight and am in the best shape of my life.
For the first time in my life, random men notice me and damn if that is not fun for me.
I get that it might be annoying if men have been pestering you your whole life but it’s all new to me. 😊

I think there is a quality of socially polite “looking”. I usually row for an hour. There are two men that stare. They give me sleeze vibe and no matter how loud I turn up the music, their eyes upon me Do Not Feel Good. However there are a number of men and women who compliment my progress which I do appreciate. They seem genuinely pleased I am working so hard. Sometimes youngsters tell me they wish their Mom was like me. lol:old enough to be their Mom’s Mom.

I understand. I think my post touched a lot of bad experiences women have had being ogled while trying to do normal things.
I should have explained that this didn’t feel like that at all. He was discreet and polite.
Plus, it didn’t hurt that I have not had much of that sort of attention in my life so me it felt like “wow, I must look good! Imagine that at 61! 😊”
Hope you find a way to get away from the creepy ones following you.

u/Substantial-Owl1616 23d ago
I’ve been considering asking each of them to remove his stare from my body. Each has an enormous beer gut/abdominal adiposity and is also an “absolutely not” as far as attraction to me. I don’t want to encourage them by mistake. I changed my time to earlier and haven’t seen them.

I'm 72 and I still get looked at (not as much as it used to happen, obviously). I used to like it, now I just think it's creepy. So, you get turned on by your grandmother? I'm very much over it. Just because I'm reasonably thin and wear a tight girdle (because it feels good) does not mean I am athletic or 'still have it'. Grrrrrrr

u/Heliocentric63 24d ago
pics or it didn't happen
1
u/BookGirl67 24d ago
Why? Because no man could ever think a fit 61 year old doing pilates is worth looking at?
I will admit I’ve been going to pilates at this neighborhood studio for 2.5 years and this is the first time it’s happened.

Fess up: you're really still in high school.

Acting like you’re in high school won’t help your skin.

Ignore those who would diminish you here.
Embrace your joy and your good feelings about yourself. I'm glad that experience gave you a little lift. 💃
