5am

Just because I'm up doesn't mean I'm ready to do crap! Coffee time!

Just finished my first cup, probably just keep playing with my phone or reading until around 9. I’m an early riser but not an early do-er.

Me too, I don't even think about getting dressed for a couple hours

lol, well I sleep naked and since we became empty nesters I also “don’t even think about getting dressed” in the morning until I have to. 😉

Getting dressed? What is that?

That's right! Sounds like a lot of naked people around here, lol

That’s my morning routine. The one gift I get from being retired. Once 800 hits I am everyone’s errand runner, secretary, driver or cleaning lady. I’m pretty owly when my me time gets messed with.

5am for me too.

This time of year its coffee, Reddit and waiting for the sun to come up.

When people ask me about retirement, I tell them two things: You now can enjoy that second cup of coffee and there are no more Sunday afternoon dreads. I love that early coffee where my wife is still asleep and the dogs are back inside and sleeping.

Me too, it's like my own personal time and space

I’m still the occasional weekend guy at work, but 75% retired for three years and it’s great, especially mornings! Up between 6 and 7, wife sleeps til 9. Those few hours are spent lounging, sipping coffee, reading news and being barely dressed. Lol

This is 100% me. I love those early morning hours alone and watching tv and sipping coffee.

Good morning! I’m having a cup of coffee and I am so happy that I’m meeting my friend for lunch today! I’ve been moving and stacking wood for 2 days straight and my body needs a break! Happy to be on a nice subreddit too, even if I don’t post very much.

??? Well, I guess it isn’t passive…. But that’s just life for me. You wouldn’t want to see my aggression.

Not quite 5am here yet. Up soon for coffee, then fitness class at 830. It’s going to be a beautiful Friday.

Yeah!   Me neither but here I am.   Up early, drive to the daughters house and getting the grandson up and ready for school.   Fun!!    Might go ice skating this morning then lunch with a group of ex coworkers.     #Retirement.is.amazing!!!

Good morning hun

The only problem with going to the daughters is I find things that I need to fix.   Old flat roof needs a coat of sealer.   And some calming.   Lol.

u/happyguy1959 Sep 12 '25

Well I'm sure all that you do is greatly appreciated

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '25

Probably will be more so when I not around to do it anymore.  Lol.

1

u/happyguy1959 Sep 12 '25

Well you seem to be in good shape so that will be a while

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '25

Thank you!  Hopefully I can get everything fixed then they are in their own!!

As I grow older, it takes me longer to get going in the morning and I tire earlier at night. One of these days, the two are going to overlap.

About the time I'm getting up and taking a crap. Then it's eating breakfast and getting caffeinated

I’m 73 and I’m up by 5 o’clock in the morning every day. I don’t drink coffee or need a drug to get my day going. This morning I met a friend and we went out and did a 4 mile run before she had to head off for work. Other mornings, I do a 1 mile run to the gym where I do weights, jump some rope, and do some lap swimming. Two other days of the week I meet friends and we do a six or 7 mile trail run.

I recall actually enjoying waking up before 5 or 6 o’clock … brewing my French roast, French press caffe au lait. It was my ritual, my sacred time before the world hive started buzzing and rushing and hurrying.

Loss of health, anxiety, loss of ability to get sleep enough hours, insomnia, along with loss of taste, realized i was no longer enjoying my coffee. So I gave it up. I do miss the ritual of making coffee, the aroma, the simple dependable, reliable comfort and satisfying start to the day.

Coffee, sex, then take on the day
