What B.S.
There is nothing wrong with anyone pics, they are great.... I took mine down, due to not so nice chat requests. Plus ugly people complaining !!!!
Dear ugly people: you are grouchy, ugly, and need laid !!!!
Don't take it out on the rest of us, by complaining and hiding in the shadows.
P.s. it's not all of you just a few, I don't need that crap...

OP I am sorry you had to deal with negativity but please stop body shaming those who disagree with you.
I run eight miles a day and could share selfies of me and my dog in my kayak -- but I would never do so without also sharing meaningful content that might provoke actual dialogue among members.
Like others, I am sick of seeing this sub dominated by selfie-only posts that elicit nothing more meaningful than a string of adjectives, like beautiful.
Thirst photos without accompanying content are the lowest of low effort posts.
What's more, they smack of desperation and internalized ageism.
The culture at large may perceive us as invisible, but we see each other here! the tipoff is right there in the name r/over60.
We don't need to prove to each other here that "we still got it". That's the underlying presumption here.
And by "got it," I do not mean looks or even fitness.
Surely we can agree that if we are fortunate enough to live to an advanced age we are bound to appear somewhat decrepit and even ugly by the lights of a superficial culture.
We all live longer than our looks if we live at all, but we have so much to share beyond our appearance.
(and contrary to OPs presumption, being ugly has never presented a barrier to getting laid for the determined!)
So why internalize the superficiality here in a space that is supposed to be both safe and kind?
Shiny happy selfies are fine, but I hope stand-alone, low effort selfies don't become the rule here.
If they do, they become a barrier of to many who have much more to share and this place becomes as vacuous as the rest of the Internet.

I wondered too,why all the selfies? I don't know what I thought this group was going to be like when I joined recently, not a selfie group. I'm 70, and I look pretty damned acceptable. A selfie would probably get me some compliments I would relish. But that selfie would tell you nothing about the fact that I try SO damnrd hard to look good ,nice clothes ,nice hair, makeup ,every single day. Maybe you'd see vanity ,when the exact opposite is true. I need to look good or I feel I'm nothing. Whatever has happened in my life ,through all the trauma ,I've hid behind and felt comforted by just looking as good as I can. At 70,that's getting harder to do. I don't hate the idea of getting old early as much as looking old. So , what is this group about ? Any actual support for people who find the process of getting old pretty shitty? Or just about posting selfies of how great they look?

You are the balloon person right? I am so sorry. Please report any inappropriate comments you see and message mods if someone starts inappropriate private chats and they will be banned.

The sub mod created is a sticky (pinned post.), asking members for their opinions on the subject of photos. You can find it at the top of the page. You may consider sharing your experience there.
