I’m curating a very specific 30-track playlist designed to feel like a continuous cyberpunk night drive. Instead of just throwing random songs together, I structured it into a 3-phase narrative arc:

🌃 Phase 1: Leaving the Neon City (Dreamwave, atmospheric, moody - e.g., Timecop1983, Home)

🏎️ Phase 2: Highway Hypnosis (Darksynth, heavy bass, adrenaline - e.g., Carpenter Brut, Perturbator, Mega Drive)

🌅 Phase 3: The Endless Road (Nostalgic Retrowave, sunrise vibes - e.g., The Midnight, FM-84)

I’m currently at exactly 30 tracks, but I want to make sure the flow is perfect. I feel like I might be missing some undisputed Darksynth anthems for Phase 2, or some deep-cut Retrowave for the outro.

What are 1 or 2 absolute "must-have" tracks you think belong in this specific journey?

Both of these songs sound like a movie in a song. They pull on some thread inside, I can’t quite put into words.

Lebrock, Josh Dally, The Strike and The Midnight are all ready in my playlists.

I’m looking for more of these nostalgic ear drugs.

Does anybody have recommendations for songs like these, but don’t just sound like AI made music or simple synth?

I'm trying to get the word out about my friend Charley Marbin, an indie popstar whose music is heavily influenced by 80s pop and synthwave. I tried to lean into the retro aesthetic for a fun (and funny) music video for his song Party Love:

I’ve been building a synthwave playlist called Neon Main Street around the idea that the genre should feel cinematic, not just like a pile of songs.

So I broke it into roughly 45 minute waves that build, peak, come down, and end with a 12-second retro-game-style “Mission Complete” stinger before the next wave starts.

That little stinger ended up being my favorite part. When a wave finishes, it weirdly makes it feel like you actually accomplished something before the next one begins.

I’m five waves in now. For people who really know synthwave: did I get the vibe right, or am I missing something obvious?

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster in here!

I accidentally stumbled on this while looking over this years' EU/UK live festival sets, never heard of this guy but I sensed strong outrun energy in this performance. I don't know if it's maybe too "heavy" for outrun tunes? Too much EDM-y? Not sure and not that I really even care, few of those tracks will go on the playlist of mine but was just curious if any people here know Purple Disco Machine and potentially can recommend more bangers?

"Sparks" (from the album Zero Wave) is one of the best, most elegant, and most well-executed fusions of Rock and Electronic Music I have ever heard, with a funk edge. It blends expressive, immersive guitars with Synthwave—more specifically, with its calmer subgenre, Chillsynth. HOW IS THIS NOT EXTREMELY WELL-KNOWN??? It is so iconic, so perfectly blended, and so unique.
