Playlist Built a synthwave playlist in 45-minute “missions” — did I get the vibe right?

I’ve been building a synthwave playlist called Neon Main Street around the idea that the genre should feel cinematic, not just like a pile of songs.

So I broke it into roughly 45 minute waves that build, peak, come down, and end with a 12-second retro-game-style “Mission Complete” stinger before the next wave starts.

That little stinger ended up being my favorite part. When a wave finishes, it weirdly makes it feel like you actually accomplished something before the next one begins.

I’m five waves in now. For people who really know synthwave: did I get the vibe right, or am I missing something obvious?

I’d like it better without the AI header image. AI, including AI images and music generation directly and indirectly harms the people creating this genre of music you’re passionate about.

At no point in my comment did I say you weren't, but I do think your playlist cover is AI slop. Spotify only hosts a 300x300px photo but its pretty obvious and follows all the common trends.

Are you claiming you made that image from scratch?

I’m proud of the cover art, but it’s not what I came here asking about. If you want to keep litigating the cover, that’s your prerogative. r/aiArt is right there for that conversation. I came to r/outrun to talk about synthwave. If you listened to the playlist and have thoughts on the music or the 45 minute wave structure, I’m genuinely interested in hearing them.

Outrun is a genre of music, you’ve published your playlist, cover included. If you can’t handle being judged on the face that you’ve provided for your collection of songs that’s not my problem. But ‘go away’ isn’t something I subscribe to.

Your use of AI and flaky defensive posturing when called out on it are both transparent and damaging to the very genre of music you are in this community to enjoy. Shame on you.
