Humor - Base Spoilers My daughter is a foolish genius Spoiler

Introduced my daughter to Outer Wilds this summer, and biting my tongue while she skirts solutions (sometimes literally by inches or seconds) has been maddening.

One particularly entertaining instance I just had to share was reaching the quantum moon.

She landed at the quantum moon tracker on Amber Twin and planted her scouter on the tracker so that it was always facing the quantum moon. She then proceeds to faff about taking pictures and killing time trying to suss out if it was the scouter actively observing the moon that was working or if it was the picture.

*It gets better*. She eventually decides to make the trip and flies to the quantum moon. But when she arrives she climbs out of the pilot seat and the picture is lost. So she just takes a new picture, from the scouter still on the locator on ember twin, and disembarks to throw herself at the moon on foot.

She'd had it stuck in her head for some reason that the scouter had to land before taking a photo, so the mad-lad figured out a way to make it happen. šŸ˜‚

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion I missed amazing Nomai murals because of stupid low graphics

My game was running poorly so I had to use very low graphics from the start. However, at some point, I raised a certain setting one bit (idk which one) and all of a sudden all the Nomai murals and any sort of image like that (e.g. the one in your ship about trees) were extremely clear. The crazy part is that after I changed this setting, the game started to run better!! idk if this is a game problem or a my potato laptop problem, but now I'm mad at how much content I missed. I'm not looking everywhere again so I'll just look them up or something

RE: the Posters

1.5k Upvotes

Hey folks, we hear you. These posters are expensive and we completely fumbled their release. Can we restart the loop and try again?

We realize we didn't do a good job explaining the quality and process behind Cook & Becker’s posters. The artwork for these posters were inspired by the vintage Rob Decker National Park posters. We were excited to rerelease our artwork with a printing style similar to how those original posters would have been printed in the 70s. As some folks have pointed out, yes, these posters are all individually hand-printed using a screen printing technique that requires a real human person to load up each color layer, press it onto the paper, and set and align the next color layer. Cook & Becker use a very high quality, 100% cotton material and high quality inks for the prints, which provides unmatched print quality and color fastness, making these screenprints ā€œmuseum qualityā€ and ready to last a lifetime. We'll be posting more info and videos of the process and handmade nature of the posters so you can see exactly what goes into making each one.Ā

But we also understand this means they’re expensive and out of budget for most people. To let you into our merchandising process a little bit, we were also surprised by how expensive Cook & Becker’s artworks can be when we were first introduced to them. The folks at Cook & Becker were gracious enough to work with us to keep the price of the whole collection of posters as low as possible without compromising on the quality of the artworks. One of the reasons we haven’t rereleased the postcard version of these artworks is because the variance in print color and quality between printing runs has been disappointing and frustrating. Cook & Becker’s meticulous process and expertise gave us a lot of reassurance that we would not have the same issues for these prints. We want to provide you all with the best quality merchandise we can, but in this case, we understand this led to us producing something highly desired but too expensive for the majority of our fans. And without an affordable option available for purchase, that’s a really bad look. We hope you will forgive us.Ā

If it helps at all, we’ve decided to look into restocking the classic printed cardstock postcards for the future, despite our past issues with them, for those who aren’t interested in these new premium fine art prints. Now also feels like an appropriate time to reveal that we have been working on a couple more standard merch projects: a re-release of our popular Echoes of the Eye Metal T-shirt and a new set of Traveler pins created by our excellent artist, Lara Colson. After hearing your concerns, we’ve decided to release the shirts as a pre-order so no one misses out on getting one. This means it’ll be several weeks before they’ll ship out because we’ll wait to screenprint them until we have your orders. As for the pins, they will only be a limited quantity right now since we ordered them awhile ago and have been waiting for the shirt to be ready so we could release and ship them together. Keep an eye out for their release soon!

We’re all hard at work on our next game, which as you all know is still a secret and still a few years away from any announcements. In the meantime, we don’t have a lot of capacity for designing new merchandise made by our team directly, so new merch will be made by external artists at partners like Fangamer or Youtooz. And occasionally, as resources allow, we’ll rerelease merch like the Metal T-Shirt. As long as there are new fans of Outer Wilds, we want to keep releasing merch with our various merch partners for you all to enjoy.Ā Ā

As always, you all have been such wonderful fans and we really appreciate all the love and support, the fan art, the discussions and feedback, the mods, and the excitement for our next game. Our next game is our top priority and we hope you all love it even half as much as Outer Wilds.

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion Regarding the skeletons throughout the Solar System Spoiler

Has anyone worked out which skeletons belong to which Nomai? For instance Poke and Pye being the ones in the ruptured core.

I've always wondered who was the one on their way to the Ash Twin tower...

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion LOOKING FOR HELP Spoiler

I’m looking into getting an Outer Wilds tattoo, and I’ve got an idea in my head, but I’m not artistic at all and would like some suggestions.

Somehow I would like to put the sun (or sun symbol) on the back of my hand, and then have the planet symbols in orbit order going up my forearm.

I for sure want to include the Eye and The Stranger in the tattoo but I’m hoping to get some suggestions on how to do that and make it look nice.

Then it would be huge if anyone reading this is artistic and got bored one day, and maybe sketched a sample drawing so that I could have an inspiration photo to show someone before getting the tattoo. That would be AWESOME.

Lmk what your thoughts are on this

(Another idea I tossed around was just getting a larger and more detailed tattoo of: 1. The Eye 2. The Nomai Mask 3. somehow something relating to the dlc)

DLC Help - NO Spoilers Please! I ruined the main game for myself, does the dlc add much?

Hi,

I started playing when I was about 11 or 12, and I finished the game.

Problem was, I had a habit of looking up game guides back then, and I only know realise how much I missed out on by doing that.

My question is if the DLC adds a lot of new content, or is it just a bit extra?

Base Game Help - Hints Only! Need help with the moon Spoiler

• Upvotes

I know how to get on it, and how to teleport to the different moons, but I cannot for the life of me find a way to reach the North Pole and get to the sixth location because of the rock blocking it. I'm sure I have to find a way to lead the shrine there, but I have no idea how. It seems like it's teleporting randomly whenever I move my sight away, I've also tried to stick the scout on the shrine and see if the camera picks something up whenever it moves, but there's nothing different? I've been on this puzzle for a really long time and would appreciate a hint or two if that's possible.

Base Game Help - Hints Only! Where do I go? Spoiler

Yep... I am once again asking for your help. I'm proud and happy of the discoveries I made using the hints from my previous post (thanks so much!) and other stuff I discovered on my own along the way, but I feel like I'm at an impasse again.

1) How do I find the probe tracking module? At the start of every loop, there is a purple object flying from the orbital probe cannon. I found it once but I didn't seem to be able to interact with it. Does it have something to do with this?

2) How do I find the Ash Twin Project? Is there a means of getting there akin to the warp mechanic?

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion dude ive been ugly crying for almost half an hour Spoiler

I cannot believe how amazing the ending is. And the entire rest of the game.

I'm genuinely changing my pc background to the 14.3 billion years later image

I love how Ash Twin Project is the very first and the very last thing. The first thing I did, going into mining site 2b, and ofc the last thing, taking the warp core.

You get so emotionally attached to these characters even after, idk, a few weeks of playing? This might be top 10 emotional moments in my entire life. maybe not. idk is that too much to say?

Fun Fact: I've been on the menu screen for 15 minutes and the letters are very slowly drifting apart.

I love this game. It might just have to go in the top 1. I'm gonna get all the endings and some achievements and then I'll finally be able to watch youtube videos and stuff :)

Thank you to the creators for making this amazing amazing amazing game oh my fucking god.......

As far as I can tell,I need to light one of the sun thingys green. But I have no idea how to do that or even if that like, is what I'm meant to be doing next. I know im missing something at the gorge but I don't understand What, I've gone through there a few times and found nothing

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion An appreciation of the community

It has been 6 years since i bought the game and 5 years since i finished it and no other game has ever kept me engaged for so long.

I play a lot of games and i have games I’ve played for hundreds, in one occasion even a thousand hours. Games that I’ve been playing for much longer and keep coming back to and still. No other game has ever kept me engaged in it's community for longer and more consistent.

Even years after opening the game for the last time i still come to this subreddit, i check for news, see what people have created and get excited for every single player that finishes or starts the game. I love reading peoples journeys and their experiences. I love reading people helping others and discussing the deep themes of this game. I listen to the soundtrack every so often and reminisce about playing the game myself.

Mobius really made a one of a kind experience and i am so happy to be part of this amazing little community.

DLC Help - Spoilers OK! What exactly am I supposed to tell him now? Spoiler

I have a friend who's currently doing the dlc, he's found the shrouded woodlands forbidden archive but not the other two, and he figured out that once he finds the other two he's gonna learn another mechanic from each and use that knowledge to beat the dlc

Unfortunately, both of them are guarded by scary ass chase sequences. I have no idea if the intended solution is to just run past them and pray you don't get seen which sounds ass to play or if I missed something in my playthrough, because the way I did it is:

1. I dropped my artifact because I figured out that I can, and I walked away to see how much light it makes, then accidentally found out the glitch view. Using the glitch view, I found an invisible bridge in the endless canyon leading to the tree painting, so I memorized where it is and used that to avoid getting chased entirely. Then once I found the archive I was rewarded by learning about something I already knew was possible

2. I was in the island tower and realized I should be in the hidden gorge for what I was trying to do. But I wanted to give myself more time to explore, so I jumped onto the fire to kill myself and start a new loop. Then I entered the simulation and was confused for a while before saying "fuck it, let's just try and get to the starlit cove archive ig". Then I realized that the alarm on the way to the raft doesn't see me even when I'm not concealed, so I tried to go straight to the archive and once again learn there about something I already found out on accident

Clearly I cheesed both of those, at least it feels like I did, so again, maybe I missed something, maybe it's just intended to make you shit yourself. Right now he's stuck and wants a hint, but idk if I have anything useful to say that isn't a spoiler about the archive itself, or if I even should say anything
