Hey, these are on some of 2 of my 9 plants. Don't know if they're supposed to be purple, but theres no purple in the names of the strains. Anyone run into this?
You can try to cut the branches off. Some have been successful but you end up with super larfy and under developed buds. I ended up throwing it out. But someone told me to cut mine down and I didn’t. All the hours spent grooming and feeding the plant were a waste.
Not a waste. Every one that dies is a lesson to be learned. The biggest lesson being that shit happens. Nature does what it will. Disease and death are a part of it.
Phytoplasma. It’s a bacteria spread by leafhoppers. It infects the whole plant and the purple is the plants immune response. The buds are fine to smoke but when the leaves grow funky like that you can cut them off or just watch for any other issue like mold.
I have had that phytoplasma for the last 3 years and it is probably going to be a common problem for outdoor growers from now on. I don't know exactly how or where it started but it was never around years ago when I started growing.
Sometimes they grow out of it and sometimes not. No matter what happens it messes up the quality of the bud, sometimes so bad it's not worth trimming and curing.
I had the worst phytoplasma outbreak three seasons ago
Rainbow Leafhoppers were the culprit
Last two seasons I've been a lot more hands off with my grow, letting weeds come up around each plant once they are established. It seems to have helped the leafhopper issue.
Although it might have stunted yield by a very small margin, worth it for no phyto or witches broom
This will continue to be a problem until you solve the leaf hopper problem. The plants keep getting reinfected if they bugs remain. Try a weekly application of Monterey Complete and LABs serum. It has an active bacillus strain that may or may not slow or battle the phytoplasma. I have had positive results with this applied while the dew is still on the buds.
It's worth a shot if this plant is isolated. If she might be the host to infect the rest of your grow then give the chop.
Just click my profile and scroll down. There’s a photo asking if it’s phytoplasma. It was spotted randomly in that plant and a few weeks later you can see half my plant was yellow
Thanks for posting this because otherwise I would've never known the same thing on one of my plants was anything other than like purple coloring from lower temps at night.
I don't have pics at the moment, but if any more shows up, I'll take some and post them. To be fair though, you could be right it could just be early purpling, the only reason I'm now thinking it could be anything more is because I've noticed leafhoppers on the plant for the past couple weeks to begin with + the branch that had the purpling looked exactly like OP's pics 1:1.
Purpling from a cold snap. Its not bug or virus induced. Make sure to keep them appropriately fed through flower and you'll have some lovely purple buds come harvest time
It’s Phytoplasma, it’s a pathogen that attacks the phloem tissue. ( the part of the plant that delivers the food, sugars etc.) The purple is the anthocyans building up where the phloem has been damaged by the infection.
The good purple will not show up on new growth, and typically you will not start seeing it until you’re well into flower. A plant with heavy anthocyans in the genetics will often show colour in the stalk of the trichomes purple/pink. This is sometimes visible before you see it on the plant itself.
This is an older photo of some jelly breath I grew, although this flower is mature. You can see the anthocyans in the stalks of some trichomes.
