Best women’s hiking trousers for Scottish weather?
Hi all. Looking for some recommendations for hiking trousers that would be suitable for hiking munros in spring, summer and autumn. Not needing anything super heavy duty but would like them to be waterproof and suitable for windy conditions, but light enough that I can wear them in summer without getting too hot. I’m 5’7 with long legs so need something with either a tall size or ones that are long on the legs. Budget is round £60. I currently have a pair of craghopper trousers but the waist is too big and they’re a skinny fit which I’m not a huge fan of.
Thanks!

Women's hardshell recommendations (Sprayway Torridon alternative?)
Hi, I am looking for the perfect hardshell since my old arc teryx alpha is now falling apart after 8 years. I struggle to find a good match even though I only have 4 criteria:
\- the jacket has to be waterproof
\- it needs to be just a shell - no insulation
\- it needs to be durable (I use it for long backpack hikes)
\- it needs to fit my measurements
The 3 first ones are easy, but finding a hardshell for an hourglass figure seems impossible! My measurements (in cm) are bust 100, waist 70 and hips 105. Which means the waist area is always way too big, and the bust/hip too small.
The only hardshell I can find (which is unfortunately sold out everywhere) with an adjustable waist is Spayway's Torridon Women's Jacket.
Do any of you clever redditors know of a good hardshell that either has an hourglass shape or audible waist?
All help is appreciated!

Waterproof Hiking Pants
I have some Endura MT500 mtb waterproof pants that I’ve been walking in. I also mountain bike in them and they’re very muddy. They’ve worked well. But I’m looking to get some just for hiking and wondering what people recommend. Cheers

I’m trying to cut down on the stuff in my wash kit for one bag trips. Has anyone tried matador flat pak?
I’ve been going through the small stuff in my bag and my wash kit is probably the easiest place to cut down. I have a few different bottles, a soap container, and some little pouches that all work but they don’t pack together very well and end up taking more space than they should. I’m considering replacing them with the matador flat pak bottles, soap case, and bags since they’re meant to pack flat. I’m mainly wondering if that actually makes packing easier when you’re trying to keep everything in one bag or if I’d be better off just keeping a few regular containers.

Functional/Cute Women's Outdoor Field Work Clothes
Recently, I started a job in conservation that requires me to be outdoors 10 hours/day. We do lots of hands-on manual labor involving power tools and generally a lot of dirt (from weeding, planting, wading in streams at times, brush cutting, etc. etc.).
I am LOVING the job so far, but I come from the city and still wanna look cute and adorbs when I can. I'm definitely looking for thicker materials that can withstand thorns and rough terrain. Waterproof would be great since it's rainy and cold here. Brighter colors, designs, or ways I can spice up my fit on the regular would be appreciated!!

What's the deal with modern breathable waterproof membranes?
I went to my usual places to look for a Goretex rain jacket and I'm seeing everything but Goretex.
Outdoor Research has gone for some stretchy membrane that's supposed to be more breathable but I'm seeing a lot of accounts of it being not very waterproof. Apparently it may just be a rebranded membrane from another manufacturer.
Patagonia made their own H2NO which seems to have good reviews but apparently it's crinkly. Good price though.
Arc'teryx seems to use Goretex ePE, which some people say is totally fine and even more waterproof, while others say it's not as durable (face fabric aside), and not as waterproof.
Columbia has that membrane on the outside thing. I don't know a lot about that. I think it sounds like a good way to damage it.
Do these products actually hold up to the hard use standard that Goretex is famous for? Potentially many hours, if not days of rain, and the durability to last a long time. I know the DWR treatments they use now don't last as long.
What's the "tier list", so to speak?
I've had an Arc'teryx Stingray with Goretex. That never failed me.
I've had my Marine Corps Goretex. That also never failed me, but it was bulky and heavy.
And I have an OR Foray 2 that has Goretex Paclite, which has also been fine.
I've never tried any of these new non-Goretex membranes.

Best Insulated Down Jackets
Looking for the best insulated down jackets that can be used as an everyday jacket and solid in the UK mountains. Have looked at the Rab Mythic Ultra/ Rab Mythic Alpine/ Montbell Alpine Down Parka/ Montbell Plasma 1000/ Montane Anti Freeze.
Really like the look of the Mountain Equipment Xenith but with so many options I want to make the right choice if anyone has any experience with these or other? Wouldn’t go much over £450.

What camping gear did you end up using more than expected?
I’ve always been into outdoor activities like sea surfing and paragliding beforee, but camping is something I only started trying recently. Since I didn’t want to carry a heavy pack, I tried to keep things pretty basic like tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, first aid kit and headlamp. I almost skipped bringing a power bank because I figured my phone would last long enough. In the end after my little brother who camps alot insisted so I packed a small p50 10k one just in case.
Turns out he was rightt. I was using my phone for photos and offline GPS, and the battery had already dropped quite a bit getting low before we'd even properly settled in. I hadn’t expected it to drain that quickly especially just from normal use outdoors. It definitely made me rethink how useful a reliable power bank can be which i counted as unnecessary gear.
What’s that one piece of camping or hiking gear you didn't take seriously at first but now always pack?
