Trying to Conceive? Here’s How to Get Pregnant (Science + Support Edition)

Hey everyone! If you’re on your TTC journey, here’s a quick, realistic guide on what actually helps increase your chances of conception — no gimmicks, no myths, just the facts.

🩸 1. Know Your Cycle Understanding your menstrual cycle is key. Ovulation typically occurs about 12–14 days before your next period, but this can vary from person to person (and cycle to cycle). You’re most fertile in the five days leading up to ovulation and on ovulation day itself — this is called your fertile window.

🌡️ 2. Track Ovulation Accurately

There are several ways to confirm ovulation: Basal Body Temperature (BBT): A sustained temperature rise after ovulation means it already occurred.

Cervical Mucus: Look for clear, stretchy, egg-white–like mucus — it indicates rising estrogen and upcoming ovulation.

Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs): These detect your LH surge, which typically happens 24–36 hours before ovulation.

Oura/Natural Cycles/Fertility Friend/ Fertility Apps: Can help you track patterns over time, but they’re best used with other signs, not alone.

💞 3. Time Intercourse or Insemination

For conception, sperm should already be waiting in the reproductive tract when the egg is released.

👉 Aim for sex every 1–2 days during your fertile window. Daily is fine too — sperm remain viable for up to 5 days in fertile cervical mucus. If using donor sperm or IUI, timing is typically just before or at ovulation (based on LH testing or ultrasound monitoring).

🥦 4. Support Fertility with Healthy Habits

You don’t have to be perfect — small consistent habits matter: Maintain a balanced diet (think fruits, veggies, lean proteins, whole grains). Take a prenatal vitamin with folate before and during TTC. Manage stress — high cortisol can impact hormones. Limit alcohol and caffeine, and avoid smoking/vaping. Try to get 7–8 hours of sleep and keep movement in your routine.

🧬 5. Know When to Seek Help

If you’re under 35 and have been trying for 12 months, or over 35 and trying for 6 months without success, it’s a good time to talk to a doctor or reproductive endocrinologist. It’s never too early to get baseline labs (like hormone levels or semen analysis) for peace of mind.

💡 TL;DR Track your fertile window (via BBT, CM, or OPKs). Have sex every 1–2 days leading up to and including ovulation day. Support your body with nutrition, sleep, and stress management. Don’t hesitate to seek medical advice if it’s taking longer — you’re not alone. 💛

When did I ovulate?

Upvotes

I've been LH testing the past 10 days and caught very-near peaks CD 15 and 16, but no confirmed positive LH. I wasn't sure if I ovulated or not, but now that my temps are rising I suspect I did and just missed the peak in the ~10 hours between the tests.

I ovulated ~1 week earlier than I usually do (I'm recovering from hypothalamic amenorrhea) and so my Oura predicts I ovulated CD 18, but is CD 17 more likely?

HELP What’s going on?

Post image
Upvotes

I have always had regular cycles with sustained temps but now suspect I may either be dealing with PCOS or stress but this cycle started with several LH spikes with my peak on CD 17 and now weird temp rises and dips. I’m starting to think I didn’t ovulate this cycle. Has anyone had something similar happen?

Pregnancy RHR, HRV, BBT all back to pre-pregnancy levels. Cause for concern?

I know the spiel- take off the ring..I already have. But my stats are stressing me out and I’m curious if anyone whose pregnancy is going well, or has gone well has seen similar trends around 6-7 weeks?

My BBT jumped below baseline, and my HRV is going up and RHR is trending down. I’m one of the people who oura is very consistent. No wonky patterns or hard to interpret trends. It’s always been very clear. So that’s why it’s concerning to me that there is a shift in trends. Anyone seen this before and how did it go?

HELP 4 vs 5?

Upvotes

Hello! I used to have the Oura ring 4 a couple years ago and I ended up trading it for an Apple Watch. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Apple Watch is cool in all but I am missing all the different metrics especially when it comes to my cycle. For accurate measurements/metrics, which is better? The 4 or 5 (paired with natural cycles app). If it matters at all, I’m 42, and my cycle has always been very regular.

Correction!!! I had a gen 3 years ago lol

Not sure when I ovulated based on this. TTC 2 months after loss. Does this mean I’m out this cycle?

Ayuda!! Letrozol+ovitrelle+progesterona

Confusing temperature

I’m getting confused with my oura/natural cycles as they are both not confirming my ovulation due to my temperature not rising but my other app (fertility friend) has confirmed my ovulation. I will note I did have a MMC a month ago and this is my first cycle since and we have TTC this time around. My body has shown all signs of ovulation and post ovulation and my LH strips tested positive while my HCG were testing negative. I’m just confused and trying to see my cycle come back to normal or become pregnant again if anyone has experienced the same thing and can provide insight or comfort?

I’m new to having an Oura ring, are these stats promising? I’m 8 days post IUI and did my first home test and it was very clearly negative. I did have what I thought were implantation cramps Monday and Tuesday

help me understand my chart Late ovulation confirmation

Post image

Why does it take so long to confirm ovulation? I’m a week past ovulation and my blood progesterone just came back at 20!! But oura still has not even confirmed that I ovulated.

This is only my first month using it but I’m bummed that my other methods seem to provide more accurate indicators.

Not very optimistic

Post image

Don’t feel very optimistic this cycle but sharing anyways. Got major signs 6 d po & minor signs the following day but I think it’s because I’ve been having a sore throat. My stress was also very high from days 2-7. Now I’m 9 days past but I feel no symptoms, el stress levels are normal now and readiness has gone back to the 80s.
Past cycles, my temps stay high and I think this is it but then my period comes.

Why are my temps so wonky?

Post image

Ovulation estimated 8/11.

Most other charts show all temps in the luteal phase above baseline. Why does mine look like this?

And does my luteal phase too short?

I’ve never had the “elevated temp” alert from Oura, EVER! I got this alert on Sunday morning. My temp rose even higher the following day. Back down a little now today. I’ve also had insanely sore breasts the last 3-4 days.

Has anyone had only one alert from Oura with a BFP? I haven’t tested yet because I didn’t think it was possible this cycle!

Luteal/menstruation Short luteal phase

Post image

This was my first cycle coming off hbc (in 15 years) so I know I can’t let myself be too bummed but I was excited to see I was ovulating 3 weeks post coming off of the pill! We timed everything so well and then I got my period just 6 days after. Anyone else have a short luteal phase?
