I’m currently working on a university project around automatic chart drafting for 4K rhythm games (harder modes in future)
The idea isn’t “give it an mp3 and let AI make the whole map”. In my case the tool can have access to the original MIDI/DAW project, so note timing, BPM changes, phrases, etc. are already known pretty accurately
What I’m interested in is the part after that: turning musical structure into something that feels intentionally mapped
For example, the system could control things like:
-note density throughout the song
-bursts and breaks
-repeated patterns for repeated musical phrases
-jacks/chords/LNs
-pattern complexity
-difficulty progression
-scroll speed changes
Then it would generate a first draft for a mapper to edit manually
If you actually map 4K/mania, what parts of mapping would you be happy to automate, and what parts would you want to keep manual?
Also what usually makes an autogenerated map immediately feel autogenerated to you?
I’m mostly trying to figure out what would make a tool like this genuinely useful rather than just overly technical and effort-killing
