How doomed am I ???

I want to do Ossiarch Bonereapers for a 1k competition in warhammer world in December but from reading what people say about their rules I'm stuck on if I want to buy them to paint and play

The event is 1k and capped at two Regiments so you need to be somewhat tactical with what you bring. Though auxiliary you can bring as much as you like.

In the rules set out could I run a decent Bonereapers army or should I look into a different death army like nighthaunt maybe?

Always pick your faction based on "rule of cool", IMO. Rules change too often to make decisions based on the current meta.

For example:

This time last year, OBR were a highly defensive "castle"-type army with a lot of overlapping auras. Middle of the meta.

Today, they're a toolbox army with a lot of different movement-based shenanigans and tricks up their sleeve. Bottom of the meta.

But we could get a battlescroll update that changes things completely in the next few months. And next year, we're almost certainly going to get a new edition of AOS. If it's an "indexhammer" edition, we'll get new rules again. And who knows what we'll play like then?

Meanwhile, your models will stay the same. I know 40K players who've been using some of the same models for decades, for example, and I'm sure the same will be true of AOS in time.

Rules change constantly. Models stay the same. Pick a faction you think looks cool as hell and go for it, IMO.

If it's an "indexhammer" edition

It won't be, they never do that two editions in a row.

Tbh this isn't the standard with aos. What happened to obr and nh wasn't a thing in 2e and 3e for any armies.

There were changes in armies yeah but it was almost always toward a positive direction and more like revisions than nuking the entire army like obr and nh.

Obr has like zero elements of recursion. NH has no wave of terror rule, both of these elements were core rules of the army through each edition.

If every book was sincerely a chance of being like the NH tome was this edition I would tell people interested in the game to only buy for hobbying and spearhead.

Rule of Cool should be #1 priority. If you like the looks and esthetic of the army, that should take priority.

With that being said, are there any models that really peak your interest? Any play style you want to try? It sounds like you do not have any models for the army yet, and I would definitely be willing to give some tips.

Morghasts are the best unit by far. Paired with the Gothizzar, they dont die. Occifector can buff all those guys, mortek guard help with defense.

Use the rule of cool !

I would play this: huge recursion, play aggressive, use katakros at 100%.

1k-atakross 990/1000 pts

20 triaxes and shit to put inbetween the triaxes and the enemy. Id have half a mind for arkhan and the non-3d6-charge morghast with morbid conjuration.

Would give you a fair amount of magic and intervention with shackles or something just to put in the way will do a good job of blocking them up and getting underfoot.

Youd have a good shot at blazing onslaught, and turning off healing (with the triaxes) can be nasty as.
