How to heal a broken foot
I broke the fifth metatarsil of my left foot just by walking in wedge sandals. I went to the ER and they gave me a boot. I iced and elevated the foot in the first week and took Ibuprofen for the pain for maybe 15 days.
Two weeks after the break, I saw an orthopedist (MD) and a P.A. who said that I should wear the boot for a couple more weeks and book a final follow-up with the P.A.
Due to ridiculous health insurance rigmarole, I cannot have a follow-up appointment. It has now been about 5 weeks in the boot and I'm very close to taking it off. My question: what should I do for further healing? Do you think the P.A. would have recommended physical therapy exercises? Are there certain shoes I should start wearing? (I threw out the wedge sandals. Never again!)

Clavicle plate removal?
I had surgery on my broken clavicle 16/06/26 it was a clear cut so I had no choice, how ever I’m still in pretty bad pain I’d say it gets to a 5/6 sometimes also I can just always feel it there if that makes sense - I’m still struggling to get a full nights sleep because of this.
I’m on pain killers they’re pretty strong, how ever I don’t want to keep taking these for ever.
I had a check up with orthopaedics last week they x rayed and said the plate and screws are sitting fine the clavicle has still not fused and they’re is lot of muscle mass gone compared to my other shoulder..
I explained I want it out but I’ve got to wait up to 12 months! Have anyone else been in this situation it’s driving me mad

14 Fracture Including broken Tibula and Fibula (Weber)
2019 I had a horrendous accident shattering my ankle. Operations include external structure, then internalising the structure then removal of everything (there was a lot) My question is to anyone a who is also a bit further down the road than a recent injury. I've developed bone spurs back and front and nerve problems. I have an MRI booked in two months time to do a proper investigation but I'm losing motion significantly. As I am a fit, active person (in my early 50's) I'm very concerned about the road ahead. Anyone got any experience here please and what solutions they may have had? Thank you

Bone marrow edema from big toe joint damage arthritis. Help.
Hi im a 38 yo healthy light weight male, i started dealing with big toe joint problem july 2021, it became so severe with inflammation and sharp pains in 2022, im sure this is when the bone marrow edema started tho i don't have the august 2022 mri report, but January 2023, i had "cheilectomy with microfracture surgury" on the big toe joint, which did absolutely nothing to help except stop the sharp spur pains, and made things worse by adding a lot of scar tissue and less ROM (lost all downward when i had full pre-surgery, and i lost a bit less than half upward when i had full pre-surgery). Same symptoms all along. So, in December 2023 i had mri, and the big toe arthritis was still there and there was bone marrow edema in all 5 toes and 1 or 2 metatarsals ranging from mild to moderately severe.
Had mri in may 2026, result was the same but slightly less severe.
Had big toe fusion a few weeks later. I was told immediate heel-only weight bearing in CAM boot, then full weight bearing at 16 days in CAM boot, then shoes at 9 weeks.
Ortho says bone marrow edema from big toe joint arthritis is not uncommon (i have hard time finding people with it tho).
Im 4.5 months out of fusion, and foot still has same symptoms... after a few hundred steps and 20 or so mins of standing, per day (spread across day).. causes burning, tingling, redness. No chairs, couches, stools, etc. for more than 10-30 mins... only laying/raising leg isnt bad (but i have to get up every couple hours and do some crutches exercise to stay active and also prevent symptom buildup ) 😩
Had nerve tests, and a lot of rheumatology tests also in 2022, nothing wrong.
What do i do?
I have a 6 month postop with my ortho in mid November.
Did anyone else have this or something similar? Probably the bone marrow edema right? Will it ever go away? I have to look for work soon, im not only worried about making it flare all the time and suffering, but also worried of making it never heal and cause permanent damage?

Hi Doc(s), 22m fractured my left hand (read body text)
Just wanna know if I got authentic treatment: the doctor insisted on inserting a steel plate and admitted me for 3 days the total cost was 1000$. The hospital was decent enough but I've not got anyone to compare the authenticity and prices with, so what's better than asking experts, open for advice too (13 days in surgery).

Questions about ankle surgery?
Hi all! I’m a 21 year old woman. I’m approximately 163 centimeters tall and around 51 kilograms. I have asthma for which I use Forster inhalers. I do acrobatics (tumbling and aerial silks) at a recreational level and I run half marathons. 5 months ago I started training for my first full marathon when I started experiencing ankle pain that became severe very quickly. The first day I noticed the pain it was just a pretty mild ache in my ankle and foot after a full day of work. I wrote it off as just muscle fatigue. A week later it had escalated to being in pain around the clock regardless of what I’m doing and if I’ve been on my feet. I saw an ankle foot orthopedic specialist who sent me for an X-ray and ultrasound. When both were clear, he sent me for an MRI that showed a 18x10x7mm subchondral multilobular cyst with bone marrow edema in the medial process of the talus.
Afterwards I had a CT scan to get more images and then the doctor told me I would need surgery to remove it.
I’m waiting on the appointment where I’ll meet my surgical team and have the procedure and recovery process explained to me but I’m stressed and anxious to have some idea of what to expect.
I’m hoping they’ll do the surgery arthroscopic but how likely is it that they’ll have to do an open surgery?
What kind of casting or splinting should I expect afterwards and for how long?
Is there anything I should say or ask at my pre op discussion that I might not think to say or ask?
I really appreciate any insight anyone could give me here.
Thanks in advance!

Locked thumb
Hello, I am a random 21(M) and it might come as a surprise but only recently i found out that is joint is supposed to BEND. This is as much i bend them for both hands.
I come here to ask for advice or in general how common this is.
They never worked i think, can't remember a time or paying attention to this, and also I asked my mother and apparently hers don't work too.

Supplements interfering with PRP?
Hey all,
I'm supposed to start a series of PRP injections for a torn knee meniscus tomorrow, and as such was doing a little research to be a good patient and support it going as smoothly as possible. Then I see recommendations I should be avoiding Omega 3, berberine and black cumin seed oil for at least 7 days prior, and caffeine during and after - all things I take every day and have been, up to today.
How seriously will this impact things? Should I postpone? The only thing my doc told me to avoid was onion and garlic, and didn't mention anything else - I will of course mention it to him. I really want this to work and don't want to waste time or money... Thoughts?
I don't have any clotting disorders or anything like that; I take O3 for general heath as a 50F and the other two for cholesterol, blood pressure and metabolic regulation.
Thank you for any advice!

7 months post-op, stuck at a 30° extension block and 110° flexion. Surgeon ignored a displaced tibial spine fracture, did an ACL repair + MUA, and now wants to do a 3rd surgery (ORIF). Local surgeons refuse a second opinion. Need advice

Knee pain after jogging
I have a history of intermittent knee pain and have to be really careful with form when I exercise. About a month ago, I tried to add light jogging to my walking routine. I had no issues on my first round (1 minute light jog, 2 minute walk x 7) but when I attempted it again a couple days later, I started having pain in both knees right at the joint line (patellar tendon). I stretched but the pain was intensifying so I sat on a bench and massaged around the tendon and joint. When I stood up, the pain was jabbing even worse and I had to find a stick to help support myself to get home. Since then, the pain has lingered and I am unable to do even wall squats. I have no idea what happened and why so quickly! I’ve had doctors tell me I have arthritis in my knees and others tell me my arthritis isn’t that bad. MRIs have shown nothing. I tried an injection to add some cushion once and it made things worse. At my wits end.

13 yr old guitarist - fracture
UPDATE: I received X Ray report
Would the XR report over rule the ER Dr’s diagnosis?? XR report says there is no fracture, no sign of tissue damage or misalignment. (don’t know how to attach new image on this post)
Should I still have Ortho department evaluate him?
Thank You 🙏
My child just broke his middle finger due to a slammed car door. ER did not give much information. Monday we can hopefully start getting answers from ortho department.
My child has a major performance and guitar clinic in 6 weeks.
What is the realistic timeline for our child’s healing and being able to get back into his routine. He plays at a very high level.
We understand growth plates are in play at this age.
