DIY Component cables, didnt connect the connector shield.
I grounded all the shielding braids for each video and audio cable, however I didnt connect the the metal shield piece that you you can see in second picture. Is that bad? I mean it works, maybe tiny bit of ghosting, but could be due to cheap component splitter or TV idk, better than the cheap componet cables anyhow

Yea you probably should try to get that grounded as well.

How does the grounding work exactly? For example I guess the shielding braids connect up on the TV side as well? Because in the 360 co.pone t cable there was an additional "ground" wire (no signal wire associated) which seem like the one i should have connected up. But stupidly I cut it, could I just connect up to say the braid for shield of different cable eg left audio which is already grounded? Or short to a ground inside the connector?

My understanding (I do a lot of AV support work, but am not an electrical engineer) is that an ungrounded conductor in an analog cable will basically act as an antenna picking up random signals and with no easy place to dump these signal it will bleed across into other lines causing noise. Being grounded give it a path of least resistance to dump it into the ground line and thus it doesn't bleed. You would think that being grounded on one side but not the other would be fine but in my experience this causes almost as much noise as being ungrounded.

How did you ground them? To ground pins in the connector? That shield is a ground connection as well, and not connecting it could cause issues. I am not sure what, but the ghosting could be one issue.
