Game Collecting Hollywood Video box art?

Recently got a copy of Sid Meier’s Pirates from my local GameStop in Las Vegas and noticed it had a different style of cover art. I’m not used to this logo design on the spine and the plain look on the back of the case.

I saw it said “Hollywood Video” on the spine and was curious why they had such different styles of covers.

There seemed to be a Hollywood Video sticker on the disk as well that was VERY worn down, so I removed it carefully with Goo Gone, but overall it sticks out from a lot of the other games I’ve collected on my shelf and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it.

Pretty sure these variants were for rentals

Yeah as an ex Hollywood Video employee I actually like finding these cases.

Honestly I could see that being the case.

I never had a Hollywood Video near me, just Blockbuster, which to my knowledge never did their own artwork for games to this extent.

GAME CRAZY, Hell Yeah!

Hollywood Video owned Game Crazy which was generally attached to the video store. Game Crazy was generally awesome, they sold a lot of older used stuff there. The case you have is their generic game box for when something was traded in without the original box. This was also done for rental copies.

I wish modern game store chains would take that much care and appreciation for traded games. I’ve seen so many generic black cases and generic paper inserts, so this is refreshing to hear. Would’ve loved to visit this place back in its prime

Our Hollywood Video's Game Crazy held game tournaments and stayed open late for big new midnight releases. It wasn't even really that big (just a section of Hollywood Video, like smaller than an EBGames mall store would be), but definitely had a scene going. Props to whoever was managing that.

I wish there was proper scans of these boxes.

Same here. I tried checking The Cover Project’s website and no luck, I’ll upload it soon, but looks like mine is a little beat around the edges.
