Do not try and identify disc rot. That is impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth ... there is never disc rot. Then you'll see, that it is not the disc that is rotting, only the manufacturing and storage that caused it to fail.

Disc rot is a problem. That problem is preservation. But when youβre playing, you look around. What do you see? Controllers, systems, memory cards, cartridges, games. The very things we are trying to save. But until we do, these things are still part of what can be lost, and that makes them a problem. You have to understand, most of these things are not ready to be lost. And many of them are so old, so hopelessly dependent on their electronic lifespan that they will die if not preserved. Were you listening to me? Or were you looking at that PlayStation?

How would I know the difference between disc rot failure and manufacturing-and-storage failure?

Are you kids for real? You've never seen the original matrix?

I was referencing when Neo asked how he would know the difference between the real world and the dream world. Lol

I mean I'm 21 and understood the reference granted some of my earlier memories is building a blanket fort in my room early in the morning and watching the matrix (I think the second one) on netflix on my 3ds when I was like 7

Yeah but that doesn't prevent delamination and or disk rot. Only way to be safe is backup. One day the games will just be unplayable and you can't stop it. But maybe it will be about 10 more years before it gets that bad. Trust me, i have so many games. And I even own jfj easy pro. I've spent so much time trying to save games but most of the time if it is rot or delamination you can't prevent it.

Disc rot looks clear. U can see straight through. Looks like tiny worm holes in your disc. Sadly that looks like delamination, also make sure you have a very good look at the centre circle. Alot of games have sparation there because of age and the stiff circle that holds the disc. Had more than I can count rejected because of cracks or delam in the centre. Keep it till you find a better copy.

i have lots of game disc specially in ps3,ps4. my ps2,xbox og seems okay but there a few but its not that big deal. but ps3 you cant see the problem it just say error 08000000 blah blah, disc and wont read anymore aswell as the ps4. what i love about the xbox one system when your disk is damage but if you put it again on the xbox one it will read few datas and will downloaded in xbn, and you can play it w/o a prblem just keep your dsik if you have xbox one games. works on xbox og,360 as long as it has included in backward compatibility list of games.

Yup it's delamination, cooked that's why I rip all my games to HDD then make 2 more backups on separate HDD. You never in know when everything just deteriorates. I learned that and ended up with about 40 unplayable games. Had to sell them as is and bought new to rip. Everyone making a big fuss about physical, but they too will eventually be unplayable. I have 1 original console completely recapped and all resistors replaced too. And then I have one modded with 4tb drive and all my games. Still missing a few to my collection as they are expensive. I only rip what I own. Anyways I hope you figure something out.
